    Just a tip, your rotary blade works with your clear ruler so you don’t have to write on fabric or cut it without a perfect straight line. Your rotary blade goes along the ruler like your pen did.

    Do you think that it is necessary to use interfacing on both sides of the bow piece, or is using interfacing o. Just one side of the fabric enough....just wondering.
    Also... what weight interfacing do you use?!!?
    Thabks for this great tutorial!!!

    • @kaylaandmarkalan
      @kaylaandmarkalan  2 роки тому +1

      I just use interfacing on one side! I don’t think the weight matters too terribly much, just something really thin and lightweight is perfect! (I honestly never pay attention the the weight I buy, I just do it by touch and what feels like a good thickness of that makes sense lol)

    Hi Kayla - such a good DIY tutorial! When you stitch them together do you do any backstitching or similar when you get to your end?

    • @kaylaandmarkalan
      @kaylaandmarkalan  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! I do backstitch some at the beginning and end of my thread run, but I especially make sure to backstitch on the points of both the headband and the bow so that the corners don’t fray.

    • @PixieDustPhD
      @PixieDustPhD 3 роки тому +1

      @@kaylaandmarkalan Ohhh super good tips about the points of the headband and bow! I used to be a fairly decent sewer, but took ya know a decade break... I'm trying to get back into it, seems like this could be a simple/fun/easy starter project!

    Sorry for asking, I’m super new at sewing. Is that a medium or light weight interfacing?

    • @kaylaandmarkalan
      @kaylaandmarkalan  4 роки тому +1

      That’s totally ok! I’m not for sure the specific grade, but I would say it’s a pretty lightweight interfacing so that the bow doesn’t get too stiff. I have also found through some trial and error, that I prefer to only put it on one half of the bow and leave the other half as is so that it has more flexibility. I hope that helps!

    Hi I’ve always wanted to start sewing but not sure which machine to get? Any recommendations?:)

    • @kaylaandmarkalan
      @kaylaandmarkalan  3 роки тому

      That’s so exciting!! I would say that Singer and Brother machines are great brands to start out with. I would check out your local sewing or craft store and talk to one of the sewing machine specialists. They’ll be able to recommend the best type of machine your type of projects. Good luck on your sewing adventures and thanks for watching!

    Is it 16 1/2 inches only because of that scrap border? Would it be 16inches with out it?

    • @kaylaandmarkalan
      @kaylaandmarkalan  2 роки тому +1

      I would go ahead and do 16 1/2” (not including the scrap border) I have found that sometimes the stretch (or lack thereof) of the fabric makes it fit funny on the headband, so I always like to try and have a little extra.

    This is so cute!! Trying to make this. Did you trace something to make the templets? I cant seem to get it right lol ahhh

    • @kaylaandmarkalan
      @kaylaandmarkalan  3 роки тому

      I didn’t trace anything for these, I pretty much free handed it. But I would say that the shorter your point is, the “fatter” your bow will be and the longer your point is, the more narrow it will be. I hope that helps!

    • @kaylaandmarkalan
      @kaylaandmarkalan  3 роки тому

    Yikes! Careful with that rotary cutter! You are supposed to use it with the ruler not on its own.

    • @kaylaandmarkalan
      @kaylaandmarkalan  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the tip! I do both ways depending on what I’m cutting. Lol a lot of the things I make involve a lot of circles and curved edges, so I have a pretty steady hand with those! Thanks so much for watching! 🤗
