I wanted to learn to play at our local chapel when I was 14 but mum wouldn't let me- the biggest regret of my life. I've just turned 60 so to hear you play moves me to tears. Thank your mum and dad, and your family for supporting you please.
This lucky church congregation is in very capable and inspiring hands with this talented young man seated at their organ console! I would love to attend a church service with Mr. van Hoef leading the singing, not to mention the incredible organ voluntaries I'm sure he provides for prelude and postlude.
So glorious. Gert enjoys playing for a congregation and does it with a kind heart and a generous spirit. He is also slightly amused when they come in a bit late. Gert is a fabulous musician who shares his joy with others. That's a special gift which not many people have.
This hymn tune is "Judas Maccabeus" by George Federick Handel. It is often used as the English language hymn "Thine Is the Glory". A great interpretation, Gert!

Gert's cheeky little intro to that great hymn can't be lost on those good Reformed Church people. They are so fortunate to have this gifted musician/organist playing for them.
How I wish I was able to visit The Netherlands to hear some of your wonderful organs and (the climax of my visit) to see and hear Gert playing! As that will never happen, thank goodness for UA-cam and THANK GOD FOR GIVING US GERT!

Moet heerlijk zijn, zo'n goed doorzingende gemeente bij het improviseren! 1 van mijn favorieten, in het bijzonder, beetje vreemd, bij begrafenissen (zoals bij onze koninklijke familie, meestal Frans).
(Great, such a good singing along community during the improvisation! One of my favorites, in particular, little bit weird I guess, at funerals [traditional with our Royal family, mostly in French]).

I was raised in a small Episcopalian Church in North Carolina. This was one of our hymns. And one of my favorites. So very well played (and sang...).

Mijn oom is in deze kerk getrouwd en de organist vertelde: "Dit is een orgel wat is aangesloten op boxen." !!!
Niels van der Giessen Maar die klinken tegenwoordig heel goed en zijn veel goedkoper dan een pijporgel!In ons gebouw staat een pijporgel die voor een half miljoen euro verzekerd is!Voor kleine kerkgemeenten moet dat helaas wel, maar inderdaad, een echt pijporgel verdient uiteraard wel de voorkeur kwa klank...

Ik vind dit (persoonlijk) mooier dan een pijporgel, of je zou een mega-pijporgel moeten hebben, zoals in kathedralen, basilieken enzo, dan vind ik het wel mooier dan dit!

One never knows when Handel [music] will show up! The English 80's pop group BonyM, did it under the title Mary's Boy Child. Who shall be next??? (OK,, so who in the 21st century recalls BonyM? I'm 80 and I found the cassette of them in, of all places, Tabuk, Saudi Arabia in a cassette store in town!
A. D. Godbee Only a few corrections: Boney M. was a German pop group. And 'Mary's Boy Child' has nothing to do with Händel's composition. The song was written by Jester Hairston in the 1950th. - Boney M.'s hit (1982) titled 'Zion's Daughter' is what you really mean. And that one is simply a translation a very populare German Christmas carol titled 'Tochter Zion, freue dich', which was published in 1820.

That's what you call 'craftsmanship!' Superb. (Beats the old 'worship band' idea into a pulp and shows it up for the pathetic embarrassment it is, likewise the substandard 'music' which such a group often offers.)
Standards of hymn accompaniment have, in some cases, sunk to the sub-basement level, in an attempt to be 'inclusive' and 'cool.' and (it must be admitted) as a result of a lack of even adequate performers - be it on the organ, the piano or whatever. Many young people are avid practitioners of the games console or its equivalent, but the far more difficult challenge of learning to play a keyboard instrument is too much for them.
Of course, Gert is one in many thousands; a combination of natural talent with, I am guessing, unreasonable hours of practice, and the result is what you see and hear in this video, someone who can do the job of accompaniment so easily that he has time to look around and work out what to do next, with no suggestion of nervousness or tension. The music just flows out of the fingers. I have seen this before, but never in the case of someone so young.
Let's hear it for Gert!
You are so right. Most worship bands have drums far too loud and have to try to drum to traditional hymns like How Great Thou Art with disastrous results.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Gert and Marjolein who celebrate their first wedding anniversary tomorrow I think. 17th November.

niels bosch I stand corrected! Just goes to show that you shouldn't trust your opinion of any organ, as heard through the paper cones of a loudspeaker on a computer.
A search on the 'net' suggests that the pipe organ (put in in the 1920s) was considered too expensive to renovate (having become unreliable) so they went for the cheaper option of an electronic.
Anyway ... Gert would make a tin whistle sound like something special!
