Product testing $4.99 drill bit sharpener, Tom Fox's Link: • How to Sharpen a Drill... Please help me support my channel: www.paypal.com/biz/fund?id=VH...
I saw a Russian guy using it successfully bending the head on the flutes on the drill. Very much different than the instructions. But it seems to work well
It's just a simple grinding stone with guides, so this device does indeed work. For a really dull, abused, drill bit (such as yours), run it through a bench grinder first to get a rough edge. Work until both flukes (cutting edges) are equal in size with the tip sharp & centered. Same with this tool to get a fine edge. Don't use excessive force. You'll end up with an almost razor sharp drill bit.
with over 40 years experience sharpening Drill Bits & End Mills, the BEST ADVICE I could give Any & Everyone is to take an hour or two & learn how to sharpen by Hand using Premium "NORTON" low speed pink & white wheels & Shapness will Last unless someone intentional tries to destroy it. No Machine is capable nor can Compare to the quality work of a true Craftsman.
I cut 2½" off of the handle so i can hold the drillbit and sharpener and allign or roll it with one hand and try to hold the drill and trigger switch with the other hand . It puts the edge and relief angle but hard to get a point .
Thanks for the video! Harbor Freight is hit or miss! Kinda ironic that they even sell something like this... with their coupon you can get a whole set of drill bits for like $10!
And u can rebuy them 300 times. U get what u pay for with drill bits. Im poor, like really poor. And i absolutely hate spending the amount of money dewalt charges for bits, but the truth of the matter is u get bits that stay sharp for years of use, compared to the 10 to 20 dollar bits that u have to sharpen half way thru each drilm hole
The sharpener evaluation would be more accurate if you 1) drilled the steel plate with the new drill bit to see if it can cut that steel plate, how much pressed pressure it took, long and how deep the new drill bit could penetrate the plate. The new drill bit should be the same material (titanium?) as the old drill bit. 2) after sharpening the old drill bit, test this drill bit on the same steel plate by drilling it at the same pressure on the drill as the test on the new drill bit; measure the time to drill and the depth that it cut through the steel plate, if it could cut the steel. Without applying the same pressure on both the new and old drill bits the tests may not be reliable.
There should be a flat washer in a little clip on the other side of the rod that holds the Stone on. I bought the two pack kit from Amazon and it has clip in a washer on the sides
Good analysis done -- but you need to ensure 2-3 things with that sharpening attachment. First there should be no vibration- securely mount & fix tightly the drill machine & attachment on a metal or wooden frame. Secondly the grinding wheel must be of more fine grade abrasive- the more fine abrasive wheel is there- more sharp & accurate the drill bit will be. Best is you buy a sharpener with options of all angle adjustments & a much finer grit grinding wheel.
im returning mine tomorrow im not dealing with the harbor freight tool, its $5 dollars but if you use an expensive drill bit it will just round it off, good thing i used a cheap one for testing. good video i should have watched this before buying this stupid thing
Same as you actually my bit drilled better before I stuck it in the stupid sharpener. Waste of money I will try to return don't know if they will take it back but I will try
I was a tool and cutter grinder for over 20 years. Owned my own business and worked in a few shops. This thing is completely useless. 😂 You're better off on a bench grinder. Spend a few more dollars and buy even the cheapest Drill Doctor and you will have much better luck I think.
Eric thanks for the expert advice, I really purchased the drill sharpener as a joke, but did a evaluation just to prove it. I do use a belt sander to grind my drill bits. I like that the belt parallel.
The length of the drill channel seems to be a bit too long, no pun intended. I have the same one and think it would be easier if I could spin it by the end of the drill bit. Im not a big fan of this sharpener.
Don't sleep on the Micrometer, magnets, air hammer, flat crowbar and 1/4: 3/8: 1/2 socket to impact adapters, all intuitive (Manuals obsolete); awesome prices.
Your focus is really bad man. Couldn’t continue watching as it was straining my eyes trying to focus on something out of focus. I’m sure it’s interesting video though.
Anybody with sense would use a pilot hole for a half inch drill, anything over 1/4 inch really should use a pilot hole in metal.
Thank you. You just saved me $3.71. Now I'll look into buying a quality drill bit sharpener. Good Job. Thanks again
The coated drill bit is probably 135 degrees while the high speed is 118. Drills come standard in both angles depending what you are drilling.
THANK YOU!. Excellent job!..
I bought one today and I agree with your accessment. Im going to mess around with it one day once I finish my project.

Do you see the Russian guy live? Or could you provide link for the video?
Beautiful cinematography !
Thanks, maybe just average.
Your Video was very informative & the presentation totally understandable. A great calm atmosphere.
Thanks for the feedback
The entire jig is backwards, it should feed from the Left and grind downward exposing a sharp cutting edge and then twist a relief angle.
Thank you
Very good video!
I have found this low quality/clearance sale sharpener good for smaller diameter bits. Does a decent job.
Nice info, thanks :)

Thanks Robin for the great tips.
The cutting edge you are talking about is called a "Flute"
Fluke is an electrical/electronic instrument company.

Focus man, god damn!!

Thanks nice modification

Yes you are correct, thanks for your feedback

I bought one . It came with about 4 stones. The stones wear out too quickly and miss shape quickly. It does sharpen them .
Thanks Robert for the feedback, Yes and the plastic holder flexes too much.

Thanks Bill, mine did not come with washers

I’m going to guess it is for twist drills used on wood.

Yup take it back and spend your money on something better. It is junk. Thanks for the feedback
Could it be good enough for wood not steel?
The cutting stone is very cheap in quality, It may work, just how long before the stone wears. Thanks for the feedback
It didn't work because you used it wrong. Don't round off the bit, grind the edge flat and it will sharpen well.
Thanks for the tip
For this size the speed should be lowered, you should use metal cutting drilling tool lubricant to reduce friction.
Thanks
Same as you actually my bit drilled better before I stuck it in the stupid sharpener. Waste of money I will try to return don't know if they will take it back but I will try
Hopefully they will let you return it. Yes I bought it as a joke, little did I realize it was a joke. Thanks for your feedback.
Ya need to piolet drill so the flutes can cut. Duh.😅
Definitely need a pilot hole might grab then
Yap yap yap
Seria muy interesante traducir este video en español,un saludo
O aprender inglés.
I think you will have better result if you drill slower and use a drop of light oil
Thanks for the feedback.
This is my 2nd youtube place and both showed this item don't work
With a larger bit, drill a pilot hole first.
agree with Blakehx, very hit and miss.... I found the abrasive part wore out very unevenly, giving a poor result for next job.
You are supposed to put the drill in a jig
Estamos en las mismas del otro dia no entiendo ni papa
It Seems like ! You like ! Putting ! HOLES ! EVERYWHERE ! Was there any Metal ! Left !???
Yes, just doing some drill testing.
Low batt

the drill doctor is shit
@@mrmeener625 I totally agree, but I through it would be fun to do an evaluation on it
I took it out of the plastic housing and made my own out of it. I had to tho, i use tiny bits. There is nothing really out there for small drill bits
The length of the drill channel seems to be a bit too long, no pun intended. I have the same one and think it would be easier if I could spin it by the end of the drill bit. Im not a big fan of this sharpener.
maybe focus the camera.........
I bought one and found it to be waste of money.
I Baugh this 2 days ago . But Um seems useless
Yup pretty useless, Thanks for your reply.
Harbor Freight I have found, has crappy instructions for everything they sell.
Most instructions yes, But on a few things I have found some pretty good instructions. Just depends how good their English is at the factory.

@@c-rlt730 thanks for the feedback. Yup.
Pretty much junk. Every product with the Drill Master name should be avoided.
Thanks Wayne, I totally agree
I disagree. I have a drill that is still kicking and alive.
I got a drill master angle grinder that broke within 2 minutes. Then I got the small 12v drill master dremel that is still running after several jobs
@@brandonGCHACHU Thanks for the feedback. Always good to know what works and what does not

Talk way to much
That is why they make a fast forward button. I make videos for novices.
I laughed too brother but it really worked for me i jst wanna find another wheel for mine
Thanks for the feedback, I checked HF, they do not have the sharpener listed anymore.
