And one thing I want to urge all of us to understand, Cities beat each other differently in various sectors. There is no day you will compare a city as a single whole entity to another separately as a single whole entity and make the right conclusion. There must be that parameter you are looking at and that's why no city will dominate in every parameter. You will be surprised to find that there is a parameter which if you were to consider, Dar will beat a giant like London and Nairobi will beat an giant like New York for instance. In our Kenya, if we are to compare all our 5 cities with focus on organisations and cleanliness, Kisumu takes No 1 followed by Nakuru regardless of their small geographical sizes. Nairobi isn't even in the top 10 in Kenya if we are to bring in other municipalities and towns in the equation yet it runs the largest economy for us.

I love your raw video! Personally, though I know many Tanzanians may not agree, I think Dar es Salaam's BRT system is a brilliant idea, something Nairobi should definitely emulate. That said, while Dar es Salaam is a vast city, it has many poorly structured areas and gaps that lack aesthetic appeal, making it less visually appealing compared to Nairobi. Nairobi might have slums like Kibera, but these are concentrated in specific areas. In contrast, much of Dar, even areas close to the CBD, often resemble informal settlements. However, one thing, Tanzania's leadership appears more focused than Kenya's when it comes to improving the country's status. Kenya, on the other hand, seems to be heading down a path of self-destruction.
I get this it’s definitely due to lack of planning the city was originally only meant for 300,000 people and now there is 8 million. Hopefully tho these areas in time will improve but who knows.

@ 😂😂wageni wepi? Your statement contain several inaccuracies. The fact is, Kenya (Nairobi) and Tanzania (Dar es Salaam) have been developed through the combined efforts of locals, the government, and private investors. In Kenya, 2/3 of land ownership is primarily in the hands of individual citizens, which is why the government must compensate landowners when constructing public infrastructure. In contrast, in Tanzania, the government retains ownership of all land and can enforce relocations, as seen in cases involving the Maasai community. You can also search, the ten tallest buildings in Kenya and most buildings, are owned by the government, local companies, and individual Kenyan citizens. Similarly, the country's shopping malls, some of the largest in Africa, are also predominantly owned by Kenyan citizens. So, what exactly are you yapping against?
@@dellanfuka2300, I agree. Urbanization challenges are not limited to Dar es Salaam or Nairobi, most urban centers in developing economies, including Johannesburg, Lagos, Mumbai, and Manila, etc., face similar issues. These challenges often stem from poor urban planning, inadequate transportation systems, housing shortages that lead to the proliferation of slums, and insufficient water and drainage infrastructure.

Well I can say that Tanzania infrastructure is not stressed because population density in it's ciities is low. Unlike Nairobi or Kampala. There's no even huge traffic on those roads.
Dar has more 7 million people... Tanzania has better public infrastracture which helps the city to have space...also city services are evenly distributed...so no need to go the city Center. Dar has more than 10 bypasses that don't depend on main roads... Those cities should come and learn
Lol Dar has more than 7 Million people and you say that is low population 😂😂 just say that ur cities are small that's why it is congested but Dar is big and wide that's why not all places you will see traffic jam, I repeat again Dar is the biggest city in East Africa
😂😂😂 I still cannot understand how we Kenyans try to compare this masterpiece of work to our chaotic Matatu industry that is unreliable, inefficient and not affordable.
Bertin dislikes open drains but from engineering perspective open drains and closed drains can both be used depending on several factors, including cost, maintenance, safety, environmental conditions, and the specific requirements of the road. Here's a comparison to help you decide which is more suitable: OPEN DRAINS Advantages: 1. Cost-Effective: Construction and maintenance are generally cheaper than closed drains. 2. Ease of Maintenance: Easier to inspect and clean as they are accessible without special equipment. 3. Capacity for Large Flows: Suitable for areas with high rainfall and larger volumes of water. 4. Simple Design: Requires less engineering and material, making them easier to construct. Disadvantages: 1. Safety Risks: Open drains can pose hazards to pedestrians, vehicles, and animals. 2. Space Requirement: They require more space, which might be an issue in urban or densely developed areas. 3. Clogging and Sedimentation: More prone to debris accumulation, leading to clogging. 4. Aesthetic Concerns: Can be unsightly, especially in urban environments. CLOSED DRAINS Advantages: 1. Safety: No exposed openings, reducing the risk of accidents. 2. Space Efficiency: Ideal for urban areas where land is limited. 3. Aesthetics: Invisible and more visually appealing than open drains. 4. Environmental Control: Better at controlling pollutants and directing them to treatment facilities. Disadvantages: 1. Cost: More expensive to construct and maintain due to the need for underground piping and manholes. 2. Maintenance Challenges: Harder to inspect and clean, requiring specialized equipment. 3. Capacity Limitations: May not handle large volumes of water as efficiently as open drains. 4. Risk of Blockage: Blockages in closed systems can be harder to locate and clear. Which is Better? 1. Rural or less populated areas: Open drains are usually preferred due to their cost-effectiveness and ease of maintenance. 2. Urban or densely populated areas: Closed drains are better suited because they save space, are safer, and look more appealing. The best system often involves a combination of both, with open drains for upstream areas and closed drains in urban or sensitive locations. Proper planning and engineering design based on local conditions are critical to ensure effective drainage. In summary Open drains are cost-effective, easier to maintain, and handle large water volumes but pose safety risks and require more space. Closed drains are safer, space-efficient, and visually appealing but are costlier and harder to maintain. Open drains suit rural areas, while closed drains are ideal for urban settings. A combination of both may work best depending on the location and need. THANK YOU
Bertin was very right and I see you support him. He has been talking about urban roads. Imagine a place like Kariakoo you leave open drainages...what do you expect?
@utopolo543 I think you should listen well he said all roads should have closed drains including rural roads he did not mention urban roads. And you can read well my comment and understand.

Yes,it’s a problem I don’t know what they are thinking when they are constructing those roads + it makes the road infrastructure look so much worse. Someone needs to go tell them directly making that small change will really make a huge difference. Yes Rwandas roads look amazing it’s not impossible.

I heard Tanzanians complaining that the roofs of those BRT stations are so unattractive that they look like houses in the middle of the road! They say that their ministry of infrastructure is destroying the image and aesthetic appeal of Dar es Salaam and that they should instead borrow a leaf from how Kenya builds wider highways that attract investors! 😏
Yes it's true, brt phase 2 terminals their roofs look unattractive compared to phase 1.but the brt terminals in this video are phase 1 and are attractive . Tanzanian wanted all the brt terminals to have this design( phase 1). But thanks God , phase 3,4 and 5 have the same design as phase 1 brt terminals, not phase 2. Even though we complain about gvt constructing roads which are not wide but borrowing a leaf from Kenya I don't think so, Kenya is very irrelevant to Tz in anyhow ( we borrow nothing from them)😂😂😂😂

Dar alone has 7million inhabitants then you say Tz cities have low population?
Dar has more 7 million people... Tanzania has better public infrastracture which helps the city to have space...also city services are evenly distributed...so no need to go the city Center.
Dar has more than 10 bypasses that don't depend on main roads...
Those cities should come and learn
Lol Dar has more than 7 Million people and you say that is low population 😂😂 just say that ur cities are small that's why it is congested but Dar is big and wide that's why not all places you will see traffic jam, I repeat again Dar is the biggest city in East Africa
In Dar es Salaam from one point to another (Say from east to West) is more than 50km.
The BRT road network is expected to be more than 100 by mid 2025
😂😂😂 I still cannot understand how we Kenyans try to compare this masterpiece of work to our chaotic Matatu industry that is unreliable, inefficient and not affordable.
Don’t compare ndugu,,we listen but we don’t judge ..Karibu bongo

Thank you! Cheers!
Bertin dislikes open drains but from engineering perspective open drains and closed drains can both be used depending on several factors, including cost, maintenance, safety, environmental conditions, and the specific requirements of the road. Here's a comparison to help you decide which is more suitable:
OPEN DRAINS
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
CLOSED DRAINS
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
@georgeedwardmwakyembe6969 where did he mention rural and urban roads? Unless You don't know Bertin. He is an engineer.
Bertin pls advice to make sure the bus stops are clean espeacial the windos

Tanzania is doing better than Kenya currently
Beautifull
Karibu mtalii wetu.
Yes,it’s a problem I don’t know what they are thinking when they are constructing those roads + it makes the road infrastructure look so much worse. Someone needs to go tell them directly making that small change will really make a huge difference. Yes Rwandas roads look amazing it’s not impossible.
They are concrete roads, not tar roads
Realistically the BRT system is perfect. Kenya should borrow a leaf.

I am surprised therre are no hawkers in bus stops and its very clean.....in Kenya this could have been hawkers paradise, a market where all sorts of things are sold
There are special places for hawker like kariakoo

So going to dar es salaam via kenya is shorter??
I just don't understand the reason for the harsh exchange between fellow Kenyans on one side and Tanzanians on the other. Honestly what's happening my good people that you attack each other to this extreme point?
Each city has its own uniqueness here. I have several sectors in which I give Dar "thumbs up". Honestly our Nairobi isn't clean and isn't organised.
Why magufuli we miss you more ulifanya Tanzania kuwa nzuri
Dar is coming up nice. The infrastructure has improved, looks relatively clean and the BRT was a brilliant idea. Having said that, I don't want to hear people comparing Dar with Nairobi. Nairobi is still far ahead of Dar.
In what!!??😂😂😂may be far ahead with kibera and mathare ?yn nyie watu mnatushangazaaa city gn ina slums katikati 😂😂😂😂
@beldina.hezrontv5881 Sasa na Dar yenyewe yakaa slum kila mahali. Tumeona kwenye hii video the most expensive school in TZ iko kwa maeneo hivi hivi, na barabara mabovu. Njoo Nairobi uone private schools ziko wapi. Msijipige kifua, mtu wowote amekuwa Nairobi na Dar yuajua ukweli. Bertin SHOW your FACE
