For another artist (and one I just personally prefer) who does this is Ferreyra on the current Green Arrow run. He has expertly done this for chase scenes but instead of normal panels and boarders, it's a huge splash page and he draws the characters multiple times across the page. What he does to accent the movement is sometimes draw a "magnifying glass" to key points of movement, he will sometimes draw a circle around that point or character, and sometimes change the colour to change the feeling of it. Recommend checking out those pages
heh, I have to stop pausing a video when I want to comment on a specific thing and learn to watch the whole thing. this wasn't about the keeping the same shot and splicing it up across a bunch of panels (I'm just reading Understanding Comics again and it's in my head too). Still, I have to say Ferreyra's movement in comics is one of the best in western comics.
-Tradd Moore heard the name but never looked at his art until you said that and wow, amazingly dynamic. Ferreyra is much more to the realism spectrum, but he..kinda maps out the free space very well. Some splash pages like to fill it with everything, some like to center it on characters or scenes. Ferreyra sets the scene and traces your eye through the dynamics of it. Like, I open the splash and go, WOW, then my eye resets, cause I have an idea of the setting, and I can follow the chase through the splash page, it works well in 3d too, cause characters will come closer and further away from your eye.
Is it ever too late to reread this run and get the most out of it? I struggle with reading and had trouble understanding he format and style of Matt Fraction and feel like I missed out on a once in a lifetime experience? I just feel so stupid, mundane, and embarrassed.
I love how many different ways motion can be shown in comics pages without speedlines and parallelogram insert-panels. Not saying they're not great, but when you see Aja's methods in this issue, or Shalvey's composition shift across 4 wide-screen panels... Ooh it's a treat to see! Great video as always!

I really need to read this Hawkeye run. I actually bought the trades a couple weeks ago, but haven't had a chance to crack them open. This episode was great. You've spent the last year or so demonstrating various techniques artists use to guide the reader through a page. It's gotten to the point where I've started to visualize your trademark arrows on a page when I'm reading. Here, this particular layout kind of breaks those "traditional" rules, yet it still flows in a logical manner. You're a goddamn Professor, Hass! Love this channel!
I desperately want to read this Hawkeye run. Every single thing I've seen and heard about it makes me think I'd fall in love with it. It also helps that I've only ever heard immense praise for it, too.
MarriottPlayer it's well worth it. I'd say it's easily one of my favourite runs in comics. There are the runs/arcs that have great writing, great art, or tell a good story/are a big event for the character, but Fraction/Aja/Hollingsworth made almost a watershed book - Big 2, but not just capes and splash pages, it kind of is more a piece of art in itself. Fantastic narrative art, really inventive writing techniques and stylish, deceptively thoughtful colours.

and... like I just said on the last video... well... the last one I watched, panel denisty, your last comments here, not only give me the courage to do what I want to do, but kind of tell me I have a responsibility to do what I want to do, given the fact that so many comics take a very similar, and less expressive route. Now it's true, if I go on to create an absolute pigs ear of a comic, thenthe world can feel free to point fingers at me for it... but I will have done what I wanted to do rather than what working in comcs has made me feel like I should do... I kind of don't like the feeling that the last futz panel gives, as it lingers too much for such a small panel. I would expand the width but the flow would get destroyed and due to that the panels would have to be rearranged...hmmmmm...
Haha, half the fun is looking at these moments and deciding how they work for you. I quite like the patheticness of the futz panel, but it's interesting to imagine how different versions of this could work in the layouts (like in the episode). If I could draw I'd probably do a lot more of that! - Hass
Aja is a true master, you can tell he takes more time plotting and planning than drawing. Love it!
