Ponant.
Ponant (officially, Compagnie du Ponant (CDP); "Ponant Company") is a French cruise ship operator. It was founded in April 1988 by Philippe Videau, Jean-Emmanuel Sauvé, and other officers of the French Merchant Navy and launched the first French cruise ship.
Thank you Kevin 👍
And thanks for watching 😊
I love a bit of research, so had to go see if I could find out the significance of "88" for you. One reference I found to it said this: "Ponant is a French cruise ship operator. It was founded in April 1988..." I also found out that their first ship, Le Ponant, is 88 metres long.
Also... "ponant" is an old French naval term meaning "west"... in case you didn't know.
This is fabulous Ebba! Thank you for digging around. You are probably right on your assumptions. :)
Well done Ebba
My partner and I recently did a Ponant/apt trip Broome to Darwin Kimberley expedition. Decor is very similar to the ship in your vid. I can honestly say it was a trip of a lifetime with stunning scenery and fabulous guides on the zodiacs. Ship crew were amazing.
So glad you enjoyed your Ponant cruise. We would live to do the Kimberley coast.
Thanks for watching 😊
Wonderful video! I sailed on a Ponant le Boreal as an English speaker and it was a lovely voyage, no disadvantages as far as language.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Absolutely no problem with the language on board. In fact, French people speaking English is beautiful to listen to! :D
Ahhh another dreamy video…Ponant vlogs are having me in awe…thx🚢😊
Glad you enjoyed them 😊
Thanks for watching 👍
@@visitwithus oh Thank you for producing such amazing videos!
Rich, thanks for this. I have Ponant on my list for the future. Looking forward to more on them.
Thank you Keith 😊
Beautiful video. I enjoyed watching it. Thank you!! 😊
Thank you Elizabeth 😊
Been waiting for this one for a while now thank you 🙏 Great Video as always
Thanks Eric 👍
Hi Rich and Helen. It is October 4th 2023, today. And the ship is decorated for the holidays. I went to shop at a local pharmacy/store here near home, when I walked into the store, the entire back wall had Christmas decorations and stuff for Christmas. ON OCTOBER 4th !! Already. Thanksgiving in this coming weekend. Then Halloween. But this particular shop usually bucks the trend in the neighborhood, and is the first to decorate for Christmas every year. The ship is lovely !!
Haha, to be fair we were on board in December 2020 so the decorations were time appropriate in this situation!
Thanks for watching 👍
Great video of a truly beautiful ship, unfortunately you lost me at "for the kiddies area" Not going to pay that price to sit next to a rowdy or crying "bundle of joy."
Thanks for watching Eric. While Ponant is not adult only, there are so few kids you'd probably not notice them. We had only one little boy on board with us and he behaved impeccably. A lovely family. :)
Somehow I get the impression that a Ponant cruise is not exactly ideal for children who like to run wild ... and if Rich actually showed the kids area in the video, it's not what most would consider a family friendly cruise line.
I would have loved it as a kid ... but I was a shy mouse. And I love thelooks of it now ... any idea how well they handle solo travelers?
I love this channel. I don’t watch every video but I find myself coming back every once in awhile to relax to one of them. Thanks for sharing your experience and I hope I can do the same one day!
Welcome back Masu! We're just glad you stop by every so often. Please continue to do so. ❤️
Lovely cabin. Very stylish
It really is! Thanks for watching. :D
Looks stunning can't wait for the Vlogs
Thanks Liz. They may be a little while but when they drop, they'll be lovely to look at. :D
Beautiful ship and the Blue Eye Lounge is very cool.
It really is! Thanks Lou. :D
I watch them whenever they stop at Fort William in Scotland.
Thanks for watching 😊
Wow stunning vlog agin .tanks and all the best
Thank you too Jens. :D
Looks like a very nice ship. Do they make announcements in French and English? What percentage of passengers are French vs. English-speaking? (Know that varies per voyage.)
Hi Cheri. Yes, they do everything in French and English. On our voyage the vast majority were French but that didn't affect our enjoyment at all. In fact it gave a nice feel to the whole experience. We love the French! :D
Wow! What a nice feature! You should get sponsored ofr featuring them! Do you have plans to explore remote places like Pitcairn, Faroe island and the coldest place on earth - Yakutz?
Thanks for watching Rina 👍
Maybe one day 🤷
Beautiful ship!
I'm not crazy about the interior though.
No maritime feeling here.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Oh, I am looking forward to your vlogs of that cruise. As a french company, did you feel as english speaking persons a disadvantage while on board?
Thanks Karsten. No language problems at all on board. They do everything in English as well as French and it's so lovely to listen to! :D
@@visitwithus Ok, great to know!
Brilliant!
Thank you Todd. :)
Looks really good I’m thinking about doing one. I was shocked how low the rates are for what looks like such a high end ship.
Thanks for watching. We loved it, it’s as close to sailing on a private yacht as we will ever get 😁
If you love the ships then a Kimberley cruise on one that type should be on your list.............
Oh my, we would LOVE to do a Kimberly Coast cruise in a Ponant ship. Well, ANY ship come to that! :D
@@visitwithus good point. We did it on Le LaPerouse. Was great but I find their ships cramped
In addition to the incorporation in 1988 I will offer this, shamelessly stolen from Wikipedia: Number 88 symbolizes fortune and good luck in Chinese culture, since the word 8 sounds similar to the word fā (發, which implies 發財, or wealth, in Mandarin or Cantonese). The number 8 is considered to be the luckiest number in Chinese culture, and prices in Chinese supermarkets often contain many 8s. I have bid on eBay items a couple times with a dollar amount and 88 cents. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. And this one looks almost as fun as the Windstar in Tahiti.
Interesting 🧐
Thanks for the insights into the significance of the number 88 👍
Is there still a lot of smoking allowed on this ship?
There was a very small smoking ‘pole’ at the aft of the pool deck though we have to say that as the cruise went on some people did not always adhere to smoking there and sometimes smoked nearer the eating area on the outside deck which was a bit annoying and didn’t always get challenged.
