It's kinda opposite what Chaplin once said because situation in Georgia is tragedy when seen in long shot, but comedy in close-up. every time something happening in Georgia all I here is that it's because of Russia. Compare the economy of Poland, Romania, Lithuenia to the economy of Belarus, Armenia and Turkmenistan, don't take Germany and France as a measuring stick, that is a very false equivalence. Because those are big economies on a decline, they don't have much more room for growth. And in a way, you could say the rest of EU is growing on the expense of Germany and France, maybe unfair for them but strong Euroope will sustain also the growth of France and Germany in a long run. Russia on the other hand, doesn't want trade partners, just look at every Russian neighbour that isn't oil rich like Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan and look at how their economies are doing. And compare that to the fact that every single country that has ever joined the EU has had an economic growth (and yes that includes Greece, after all the country was literally saved by the EU). Georgia has already managed a very impressive growth considering they have no natural resources and 20% of their country is literally occupied by Russia, and the Russia still controls their energy sector completely. Georgia has in every way a huge potential to contribute to EU economy while creating much faster economic growth for themselves, and bridging EU with Azerbaijan that is overloaded with oil and gas and is as safe from Russian reach as anyone can be. Even if Russia had a fair trading plan towards Georgia, with their own economy in shambles (and the recovery will continue for at least another 10-15 years), how is getting closer to Russia any logical alternative for anyone but the corrupt politicians who are getting paid top Russian oil money to suppress the rest of the hungry nation who Russia has no incentive to help?
