On the Wrist, from off the Cuff: Seiko Prospex 'Street Series' - SBDY073, Best New Baby Auto Tuna

On this episode we take an in-depth look at a recent purchase that more of a slow burn while window shopping but ended up really exciting me in the metal. I've always loved Seiko's iconic Tuna can line of professional divers but have always wanted a more accessible option that could hit a lot of those same notes for less. Thankfully, Seiko have been kind enough to release a few different affordable options to scratch that itch over the last few years but I must say this new Street Series variation is really quite tasty. Sure a safer, more basic color pallet would've a touch more versatile but these warmer pale gold tones honestly add a nice punch of personality. I even found an excellent OEM bracelet option in the 49X8JG, originally sourced from the also iconic Seiko Monster line. Let me know what you think of this blue and gold beauty below, thanks guys!

i just picked this up a few days ago, and theres so much detail on this watch that it makes it a delight to look at it every time. always find something new. looks great on the wrist. the strap is surprisingly comfortable but i do look forward to throwing it on a nato, regardless its good to have options... great great watch well worth it.

I'm wearing the original monster on its original bracelet, never would have thought to use the bracelet on Baby Tunas. great video and the light transition shots are a great add as well.

Yup, this is exactly what I was planning to do. I ordered a new watch last week and it should be in soon. In the mean time I thought one of my monster bracelets would look good on the watch. However I thought a brushed look on the bracelet would be a better match for the watch.
I finished brushing all of the polished sections of the bracelet last night with a 3M ultrafine grit sanding pad and it looks great. I came across your video today and it only confirms what I was thinking. Looking forward to putting my new watch on the brushed bracelet, I think it will be a very nice look. Mahalo for your video.

I love these. I have same model, just under ref SRPF81K1. The gold is very subdued, I'd say looks almost like a khaki tan color. Like the fact the lume isn't overdone in the fauxtina if you want to call it that. Much like my SBDC105, it is just creamy enough and I like they both glow blue.
I had been waiting for a stainless steel version and this works out quite nicely. I hope and expect Seiko will make more stainless steel versions.
If you thought the full size Tunas at about 47mm wore surprisingly small, this will seem even more so. Out of the box at first sight and in hands, I was wondering if they had sent me the smaller solar in 39(?)mm?! Visually, like the full size tuna, wears and looks at least 2mm smaller on wrist. It visually doesn't look much larger than my 41mm watches.
This thing is a strap monster, no doubt. I do enjoy my Tunas on bracelet. You have a nice pairing here with the monster bracelet. Works smartly in giving better presence as u said. I like it and wear mine on a Strap code Endmill. That presidential style has a nice beefiness to the links which helps to make the rather petite tuna look a little more toolly and brings up the visual scale. The fullness of the rounded links matches the feel of the Tuna case and shroud.
The date at 4:30 is fine. It is low key and more importantly the index markers on the dial are bold and pop out enough where it sort of sends the date window further visually into the background. Very similar to how I felt about the Helson Shark Diver.
I wouldn't change a thing. But, I do think they could have lumed the tan numbers on the bezel to lume. But, I totally don't mind just the lime pip lumed.
The stock rubber strap is very good. I prefer this new style over the older accordion style ones.
This is a great Prospex model. You get a great iconic design in a more approachable scale, and at under $500, it is one of the best value modern Seiko diver.

I just picked up this watch and am totally blown away how nice it truly is. The rubber it came on is also fantastic and see no need to make any change to it. This is a hidden gem in the Shikoku lineup.

Just bought this watch second hand for £250, and ordered the last 49x8JG bracelet Cousins had in stock for £75. I buy and sell a lot of watches but I got a suspicion that this one will be a keeper!

Love the dimensions of these new tunas but I’m def in the camp of wanting some more traditional colors with the accents not being this gold/fau patina color

Man, your content always delivers! With that bracelet it gives a very interesting and nice look. Although, I would say that bracelet looks a little overpowered on this watch case.
