  • Embark on a journey back to 1981, a pivotal era for U.S.-China relations, through the lens of an extraordinary adventure. This documentary dives deep into the heart of one of the first American climbing expeditions to explore the majestic mountains of China.
In a time when diplomatic ties were strained, the power of human connection and the unyielding spirit of exploration shone brightly. The Mt. Siguniang expedition, comprised of four intrepid climbers, faced unexpected challenges and harrowing moments in the wild, untamed beauty of China's landscapes. Their story is not just about the climb but about the profound lessons learned and the indomitable bonds forged in the face of adversity.
"Throw me off now. Throw me off. I’d rather die fast than slow." - Jim Kanzler's haunting words encapsulate the raw emotion and relentless determination that defined their journey. Join us as we uncover the untold stories of friendship, survival, and the relentless pursuit of adventure against the backdrop of a complex geopolitical landscape. This is more than a documentary; it's an invitation to witness the human spirit's capacity to overcome and connect, even in the most daunting circumstances.

Loved your video. The title should have been "Adventurous Spirits". What great memories they took with them and then some more for Jim Schmitz and Jack Tackle to go on climb the West Ridge at Mt Everest, epic. Loved the scenes from China and the officials years later they pardon the brazen adventurous men what a gesture. I smiled when Greg Thomsen said "the plane had left the day before" it happened to me in my youth in Spain. Beautiful music selection. RIP Jim Kanzler and Jack Tackle ✝

It sounds like they had a great time in China. They sound like a group that would have been fun to hang out with.

Those things are never " proper" and its even worse to behave this badly in another country. " I don't regret any of it." Ugh.

@Joshua Jones caliatthebeach is the person that calls cops at 7 o’clock at nite complaining about loud music. If you think a few cases a beer isn’t a good idea, stay at home.

What do you think behaving like this when you are a guest in another country does for the reputation of your own country? Shameful.
