- In the first episode of a new series, we compare Star Wars Legends starship sizes.
On today's very special Star Wars Legends Lore video, we do a Star Ship Size Comparison, considering the capital ships and dreadnoughts of the Star Wars galaxy.

For anyone interested in seeing how the models were made, here's a behind the scenes video showing the creation of the Eclipse: ua-cam.com/video/Esmr8yuENME/v-deo.html
Love the video, an I hope for more like it
Not a blender expert by any means, but do you know about "Recalculate Normals" and the smooth vs flat shading options? There's a bunch of weird shading effects that look like what you get when you have bad normal vectors or smooth shading for surfaces that are supposed to have hard angles between them.
EckhartsLadder The eclipse is a big poppa
a consular class cruiser c70 retrofit?
what about the supremacy
This could be a whole new series... if you guys are interested! Let me know and leave the video a like for more!
Also, make sure to put any suggestions for future videos!
A series like this would be awesome.
What about the raider class from star wars battlefront 2
EckhartsLadder I think that you could use the 3d models to emphasise and show the differences in the factions compared sieres
EckhartsLadder you could do this for multiple sci fi franchises also.
You should definitely do a series based on ship size :) there are so many ships in star wars lore alone! If you extended it into warhammer 40k, Halo, Star Trek, Babylon 5, Stargate and so on man you would have a huge amount to work with! and that's just space constructs!
4:55 ok, its panning out, this is gonna be big!
5:00 Still panning out...
5:10 OK, enough!
5:18 Really, it's gonna be this big!?
5:22 HOOOOOOOOLY CRAP!!!!
the death star is even bigger
Why is this so true?
@@darthutah6649 but the deathstar was a space station, not a capital ship
@@darthutah6649 Yes
@@filipthunell8631 Space stations aren't mobile. The death star is.
I saw the Vong Worldship early on in the video, and I kept waiting for it to drop in, so when it the camera pulled back so far I couldn't even see the Blockade Runner and it dropped in I was laughing at how huge the thing is. Good video, keep it up Eck!
I still saw the blockade-runner and even a single pixel that may have been the fighter.
Vong OP, pls remove.
It dropped right as the new music started.
I've seen this much dedication only once before, it didn't entertain me then.
It does now.
AgentKE Disney ruined Star Wars
AgentKE Rian Johnson ruined Luke's character
Thanks luke! It was a lot of fun making those models!
Ah, master Robot.. I'm ending all of this. The comments, the replies the quotes... I'm gonna burn it down.
-sets fire to the video via ghost lightning-
I like how you can actually see the gun emplacements in contrast instead of them blending into the background of the ship most of the time. The Bellator is well endowed.
I thought that at least for the larger ships, it was a necessary detail Thank you soo much for the feedback!
Bellator is a good example of why SW ships drive me up the wall sometimes. Shit tons of turrets on the top. On the bottom...not so much.
Star Wars designs have never been the best with that kind of thing.
It's not a problem when your enemy is nice enough to stay oriented with you.
Bellators have almost identical weapons on the bottom as the tip

Owen-Wan Kenobi General Kenobi!
General Grievous hello there
Oh I don't think so
obi wan Hello Fellow Kenobi!
Sweet Jesus, there's three Obi-wans in here
Can't go wrong with capital ships.
except when your PD is useless and one fighter destroys your dreadnought
john smith in all honesty that ship was fucked they are tough but not tough enough to solo an entire fleet focusing its power on you
Gotta agree there :)
@@johnsmith-sq6nu I love the fact that it was an Awing that did it too (smallest fighter the rebels had). then again, in the books fighters (and presumably other ships) are perfectly capable of going to near lightspeed velocities and ramming things (or in some cases throwing a hundred ton hunk of durasteel) resulting in awesome renditions of the simple conversion of kinetic energy to heat. (to give you an idea, 100 tons of material hitting something at 99.999999999...% the speed of light has about 4.493775863704843 E21 Jules. to put that into perspective, a 1 megaton nuke is 4.18 E15 Jules, a much smaller value.
so yes, an a wing could technically REALLY make a death star hurt, as long as it didn't hit a particle shield first.
and before anyone mentions hyperspace, that is literally seen as a separate dimension that only interacts via gravity in star wars, and the reason you do NOT want to fly through a planet is not the physical body of the planet, but its gravity "well", which would yank you out of hyperspace and potentially right in the middle of solid rock (or plasma were it to be a star). I'm done now.
No, you certainly can't.
We already know the Gungan Sub is the largest.
There's always a bigger fish...
cyborg killa I like your profile pic.
No snowspeeder is
No its not
The Jedi star fighter is the largest
@@order66pizzas no its not
It's the Imperium ultra star destroyer
Interesting seeing them put into perspective of size, would have been awesome to also include an average human/sentient being to compare
+Legendary yeah I regret not doing that. That's why I included Anakin's Starfighter at the beginning tho
fair enough eck, enjoyed it though
They did that with the Homeworld re-release ships, in a special video.
I never thought a lucrehulk was larger than a star destroyer
beautiful nut Yeah, the reason they're not really considered much is because compared to their size, they have very poor firepower. They however can carry a respectable fighter complement.
There is a small dispute over the size of the Lucrehulk bridge tower, but the landing craft and the battle at Coruscant point to the larger scale.
Same
Eckhart, I love your videos because they emphasize my love for Star Wars. Thanks man!
A rather nice change of pace
Thanks!
Nice work man! Love your channel
And people say the First Order's stuff is all really big...
Big enough to motivate Poe to launch a desperate attack, despite the small size of the Resistance bomber squadron. And then there's the Starkiller battle station.
Blacklight Virus vs The Flood
*100th Attempt!!! I WILL NOT STOP!!!*
I clicked on the notification so fast it's not even funny, great vid eck
Atta boy!
I love these kind of videos and it would be awesome to do even larger ships in the future. Keep up the great work!
The amount of detail on each rendered ship is incredible. Kudos to the designers! (And yes, make this a series!)
Cool vid weird to see them that way although doubly weird to not hear eck
A bit eh!
saw massive g eliminate you on Kashyyyk battle front 2

wayfarer wild wait fr? 😂 love that guy
A fine addition to my collection.
Great vid as always plus it's nice to get a visual representation of how each ship is compared to another ship in the Star Wars universe
I know I'm commenting late. But I love this version of the Eclipse SOOOOO much more than the original version. With the redesigned engines and thrusters and shield projectors on the port and starboard make it look like a viable ship
As I recall in the legends X-wing novels the new republic pull a an old beat up super star destroyer out of mothball took all the guns and goodies off of it, put a 19 kilometer spike down the central axis and rammed it into a world I ship to kill it.......
And it worked.
Though my favorite was how the vong commander recognised the "triangle ships" as a significant threat to his capitol ships and though it good they didn't have more of them. These were of course imperial class star destroyers on loan from the imperial remnant.
When you look at the vong invasion path I to the galaxy they just bypass the imperial remnant. But they literally come right next to them, so you know the vong tried to fight the remnant encountered, proper imperial era, capitol ships and got their asses handed to them so hard they just decided to go around.
The fate of the Lusankya, yes.
Yeah. One could pose that the reason some of the Imperial ships were so poorly designed for general space warfare, especially against small and maneuverable Rebel ships, was because Palpatine was specifically designing them, or influencing them, so that they would be effective against the similarly designed bulky rock-ships that are the Yuuzhan Vong ships. In that regard, an ISD reigns almost unmatched. Save for, of course, the many designs that came after it.
Congrats with all of the subscribers man, you’re one hell of a youtuber!!!
Keep doing videos like this. Love the comparisons between the more obscure ships (ie not just X Wing vs Falcon like most others)
That was amazing
This is amazing! I know it might be a lot to ask, but could you perhaps do a canon version of this. Including ships like the Raddus and the Supremacy.
+Weeman Barny if those goes over well, definitely
Pretty weird considering half the ships featured here are in Canon
@@King.TeeJayy and no one talks about it
I love these types of videos and great music btw!
These types of vids are honestly my favourite type of videos when it comes to star ships. Keep it up man!
Here is a chart of starships and their sizes in relation to other sci fi universes. Take a look.
It has everything ranging from Star Trek, Star Wars, Warhammer, Halo, Mas Effect, Stargate, etc.

Good poster - more cluttered than the last one I saw.
Also, the Mediator-class remains a contested ship in terms of size (see the Essential Guide to Warfare)
Awesome 👏🏼
Hello , Chief Mind Telling Me. What Are You Doing On That Ship?
THIS IS AWESOME! Love your vids btw!
I,d love for more things in this series. And for a suggestion, I would love to see a size comparison of the actual engines/ power sources that fuel these beasts! Love to see a size comparison from these ships to those in the Starcraft universe as far as the lore just to help me picture it.
I like this
Love your videos
I love how the world ship is looming in the background of almost every shot. Love the video Eck
Dude this looks hella cool, plz keep doing this
I really like scale comparison of ships. Could you make a Halo version of this video. Im sure many fans would love it. Keep up the great work
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.
Oh my god! Dude, like the level of commitment, this, fiction compared, gaming, and vlogs! You are the definition of an awesome UA-camr!
I saw raw, untamed dedication.. but beyond that, something truly time consuming... making this video.
Really awesome stuff!
First love your videos and streams

Really makes you think about how big space is.

Yes. Anything can be both massive and tiny at the same time.

Great channel I watched a whole bunch of your video's after discover your channel today and I love it.
Awesome always like seeing the ships together for size comparison
A good and well designed video but... Where are the Mon Calamari ships???
Jedi Knight and Venator
To think the lusankya destroyed one of those world ships is insane.
Worldships vary in size.
Welp, when an asteroid-sized huge durasteel dagger, packed with highly explosive things and reactors which work on freaking antimatter, rams into you on a fraction of speed pf light, like a mf-ing shell - you are gonna have a BAD day no matter how fatty you are
Hey eck, awesome video, imma start commenting more often to show my support because you’re an amazing UA-camr man, keep it up.
Best channel on UA-cam! Always have starwars lore videos popping up in my notifications! And it’s like living in heaven keep em coming i love your work!❤️
+Alex Navarro :)
The Eclipse is said in the comic to be 10 miles long. I think this should supersede the sourcebook. So it's quite a bit shorter than the Executor's 19 km. Here it looks about the same length. It is, however, bulkier.
Eclipse II might be longer, or extra work was done.
Eclipse is 17.5km
Where are my Mon Calamari Crusiers. 😐
Francisco Garcia Mon Cal cruisers are notoriously hard to model as they contain almost no polygons
Understude
Well, the on in the 1993 X-Wing game release was almost ALL polygons - though not that nice looking...
I have them in my rebel fleet.
All 3d models consist exclusively of polygons.
Keep up the good work man
Finally a video that does this!

Outstanding job @ EckhartsLadder and sketchfab.com!!
This was awesome!
@ EckhartsLadder
You should do like a Halo vs Star wars ship comparison and include space stations like the death star etc.
we can't do that star wars would be dwarfed
john smith but involve other sci-fi universes give scale to how big things can get
The Mantle's Approach, which is 360-some odd kilometers tall, would be at the top, (Excluding the Halos and Ark, or the Precursor's Star Roads). Next to that, the Death Star II at about 150-170 km range. Those would be the two star players there.
Nitpicking alert! : Lucrehulk seems about 180% of Imperial II here (lengthwise). That would make it less than 2,9 km long. Are you sure about that model? Ok. Back to video.
EDIT: If you count that extending crab things in lucrehulk it looks more like 195-200%. So up to 3,2 km. Still 150m short.
EDIT 2: Praetor looks only slightly bigger, more like 15% more than Lucrehulk. I think it is because backs of the ship are not on the same line. My suggestion put the Stern of each ship on the same line, perpendicular to their length, otherwise people will be bitching. Also Parallax is screwing with vision. May I suggest at the end shot from above the line at the stern, or even better shifting starships, so that their centers, are all aligned, and then move from above from the smallest (forget the first - it would be pixel) to largest. Just pan to the right along the center line.
EDIT 3: Something like 3:51 shot helps (you can properly see the difference between 5 km Praetor and 7,2 km Bellator), and is a variation from what i had in mind, same the panning out before you drop worldship.
All of this comes from the love for your channel.
P.S.
Super nitpick ;) Yuuzan Vong ship's (although not lucrehulk, since it has engines on one side) length could be described as a diameter ;)
Great video, make more, I hope you're not offended. And may I suggest going back to your roots for day or two with Versus series?
Cheers from Poland.
P.P.S I spent an hour writing this and (over)analyzing! :D Keep up the Great Work.
Models of some ships are only made for ships, that appeared in a one strip of comic in the background. As I said this is nitpicking. If you've read the entire comment, you might realize that most of the problems are with ship alignment, that in cases where difference is about 20%, make it look like far less. I also mean no offence, and I took no offence.
Some of the ship models seemed off. The Eclipse looked a lot more rugged than it was and you couldn't see the prominent bridge on the Executor.
I loved seeing the worldship looming above all of the other ships when the camera went under them. Made me super excited for the big reveal
Nice vid. I enjoy all of your vids no matter they are talking about
I clicked so fast my finger has traversed light speed.
+Dylan Wu don't run into any of the ships
CSO Covenant x2 vs Snoke's Mega Star Destroyer (4th try)
That was a super cool video, please do more!
This is so cool!
When the Eclipse was introduced in the Dark Empire comics, wasn't it significantly bigger than the Executor class Star Destroyers? For some reason, for roughly, the last 25 years I have been under the impression that the Eclipse was something like 60,000 meters or some figure around 36 miles, long. Is there a good reason for this or am I misremembering something? I hope I'm not misremembering because a 50,000-75,000 meters long vessel bristling with turbo lasers to go along with the "obviously overcompensating for something", or it's known aboard the Eclipse "the OOFS"(I just made that up but you can use it if you want), main super laser is just an awe inspiring and fantastical image to have in my head.
+John Summers you are mistaken. I believe the comic says the ships is something like 'nearly 12 miles from stem to stern'.
I haven't read Dark Empire since, probably, 1995 at the latest so I wouldn't call my memory reliable and they are mixed in with a lot of other comics so I can't find my copies to check. Thanks for the reply.
Ten miles from stem to stern is what the comic said. The old roleplaying books back then kept believing the Executor was only 5 miles long, due to misreading the script and novelization of Empire Strikes Back.
What's the name of this music?
