500hp street Starlet is back

- The last time we saw Rick’s Toyota Starlet he was on the dyno testing out a newly fitted gearbox which consisted of a straight cut gearset and trick sequential shifter. Since then Rick has gone over the whole car with a new cooling system and a switch to E85 fuel. An updated Wolf V550 computer and a Garrett GTW3684 recently netted 501hp to the front wheels on around 40psi boost.
Although the car has run into the low 10s previously, Rick is after more consistency and was back at the track testing the new changes with the long term aim to run consistent sub 10-second passes.

Any one saying fwd can’t handle a dragstrip needs to read the description 3 times again and then come back to me this is no ordinary fwd car by any standards besides I love startlets to death but America don’t have those here so I can’t enjoy this little bundle of joy but only in the videos Hehehehe money is going to be going to Australia some time soon so I can travel

Such a great build! I love it when people take mundane things and make them mental. Does he have a weight plate up front? If not, he should consider trying to put some weight in front of the front wheels, a lot of Honda guys do that for traction off the line, the thinking is that you gain a lot more of the line than you lose at the top end with the extra weight.
Good to see him sticking at it.. would a 4wd conversion be on the cards in the future??

Thinking the same.
Or run lower boost in 1st gear via boost by gear. Although Im not running as much boost/hp as this guy, my vw doesn't come on to full boost (21 psi) until 3rd gear. 1st gear limited to 7psi, second 14 & 3rd 21.

They call it boost by gear he probably already has that set up.the joys of fwd he could put waights in the front end and stupid wide slicks up front to try get more traction

What motor is in the starlet?
If its saying 1.5l its most likely the block from the toyota paseo. Its common in england to use the paseo block to the starlet head. The starlets only a 1.3.

Robert Tucker Jr I would say a 5E-FE or 5E-FHE with turbo, a Toyota Paseo / Sera motor from the same engine family as the 4E-FE non turbo starlet.

the head is a 4afe, the block could be a number of possible options
It's a 4efte but probably with a 1.5l block
