Americans are possessive and protective of their weapons because that's what gives them the upper hand every time. It won't be a upper hand if everyone has one.
India becoming a nuclear state was a big issue because many countries didn't believe that India, a country which they thought was a financially not rich, developing country managed to develop nuclear weapons and the most advanced countries didn't even know until it exploded.
This gave away the message that India was preparing for war but actually we were just trying to defend.
The issue was only solved after India announced its no first strike policy which no country had done other than china

    • @vamshis1756

you couldn't more wrong....the whole world shocked because it was done in secrecy, and the reason other developed countries are not nuclear states because of NPT(nuclear proliferation treaty) nothing to do with financial status or availability of technology..as a matter of fact we had nuclear tech back in 1970's, but, we just din't do nuclear test for military use, it was done for civilian application...please do read up on the issue before you post a comment.

India needs to be a Nuclear state as China and Pakistan both are rivals of India. India tested its Nuclear missles in 1998, after 2 weeks Pakistan tested their Nuclear missles. Presently, India is surrounded with China and Pakistan both are rivals and both are Nuclear state, India needs to be Nuclear state. And due to many US sanctions (after India became a nuclear state) India grown up and proved the world that India is a mature country who can handle such heavy mass destruction weapons. On the other hand, due to influence of cold war, US always supported Pakistan, and India was always backed by Russia, but today's senario is totally different, US and India have great realtions. This is how time changes, India proved world many times that India is a mature and peace loving country and being a proud Indian Sikh i am very greatful to born in such a great country.

The clandestine nuclear test of May 1998, code-named Operation Shakti, was a result of impeccable astuteness and audacity by the Indian government.
India had intentions of conducting Nuclear Tests since 1995 but were thwarted twice by US spy satellites and CIA who warned India of dire consequences if she continued to go ahead with the nuclear tests.
One of the foremost agenda of Vajpayee's government when he came to power in 1996 was to make India a nuclear state. But unfortunately, thanks to the political instability at the center, his government lasted only for a short period of time delaying the prospects of a nuclear test.
Coming to 1998, it was imperative to camouflage the tests with a complete veil of secrecy lest it be detected by spy satellites.
Immediately after coming to power in 1998, Vajpayee convened a meeting of Kalam (then DRDO chief), Rajagopala Chidambaram (then Atomic Energy Chief) and top DAE dignitaries. The meeting was so confidential that even George Fernandes, the then Defence Minister of India, was kept in dark about this.
The scientists present at the test site dressed in battle fatigues so as not to raise any suspicion. Also, Pokhran, being located in a border area, had a high likelihood of informers.
Scientists worked during night and carried on till wee hours of the morning to avoid detection by spy satellites. Also, the equipment used were moved back to original place to give the impression they were never moved.
Unlike Pakistan's atomic testing sites located in high altitude granite mountains, the sparse bushes and sand dunes of Thar Desert did little to offer any cover. The dug out sand was shaped like dunes and aligned in the direction of wind to give the impression that they were naturally formed dunes.
India's own satellites-imaging capability provided an edge over other spy satellites and gave them an understanding of what can and can not be seen from space. Also, India's large corps of trained nuclear scientists and electrical engineers came in handy during the tests.
Since most of India's nuclear program is indigenously developed, there was little chance of electronic eavesdropping on account of foreign nuclear equipment.
India's aggressive anti-espionage policy helped ward off any suspected surveillance by foreign forces.
Shortly after the tests, the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee gave a press statement:
Today, at 15:45 hours, India conducted three underground nuclear tests in the Pokhran range. The tests conducted today were with a fission device, a low yield device and a thermonuclear device. The measured yields are in line with expected values. Measurements have also confirmed that there was no release of radioactivity into the atmosphere. These were contained explosions like the experiment conducted in May 1974. I warmly congratulate the scientists and engineers who have carried out these successful tests.
The American intelligence community was embarrassed for failure in detecting preparations for the test. Economic sanctions followed soon, but they did little to deter the economic gains of India.

I don't have to look far to find reasons to be ashamed of my country or to find flaws in it. No foreigner need tell me the systematic criminal neglect of tribals in India. Just for example. Other 'lower' castes were subjected to hell for centuries. Jaby, the native Americans were massacred by settlers. How many movies are there on that? Jon Oliver the British comedian comes up with colourful titles and descriptions of his country's colonial past. It is possible to hate your countrymen's policies as a country. It doesn't make you a bad man or a traitor

Jaby bro, U.S always cheat with indian. very painful thing is americans has no idea. December 1982, India had formed a cryogenic study team to focus on the development of an engine which could generate a thrust of 10 tonnes. But the project did not take off because Isro realized indigenous development of such engines would pose major technological challenges. It then decided to import these engines from Russia. russia agree. In 1991, Isro signed a $120-million contract with Glavkosmos of Russia for seven cryogenic rocket engines and also a complete transfer of technology. Isro officials said India had to approach Russia because no other country was willing share this technology .
India-Russian agreement was being put in place, the US, in July 1993, arm-twisted Russia into stalling the engine supply saying it flouted the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR). The US sanctions on Isro and Glavkosmos were a huge setback to the GSLV programme. NOW INDIA HAS INDIGENOUS CRYOGENIC ENGINE.

Jaby, most Indians like to dangle achievements of our country (which by the way they had zero contribution towards) and call it patriotism. These are same people who evade taxes and bribe traffic cops to get away from fine and litter here and there. So I would ignore those trolls. That being said, every country has a dark past or have done wrong to the world or their own people. We live in a century where current world problems are more important to focus on than throwing dung at what someone did in the past. Otherwise we won't have what we have right now in the future.

Our Scientists covered this all up by organising a cricket tournament (most players were scientists and army mens) nearby as that place was being monitored by US satellites. They used to Work mostly at night and at the time intervals when the satellites have their focus somewhere else and then cover it up again when it focuses there. CIA witnessed a huge intelligence failure then.
