Nooooooo why did I watch this video ...must not add these to my Jacksons basket. Love how rich yet muted the hues are. Love all the combos you a create and layering. Thanks for sharing
Ok that is something that I have never considered buying before but I'm definitely thinking about it now. You looked like you were having so much fun. And I loved the colors.
Haven't been interested in the bloks, but I love what you did with them. There is so much energy in that piece. What a great example of what happens when you let go... and play.
A beautiful and powerful picture, Katie! I love to see how you always start with seemingly random shapes and marks and then you come up with stunning pictures! In this sense, this video is very much you, and shows that you are a great artist! 💜
Hi Katie, the boat is my favorite thing and I’ll tell you why. It reminds me of the little boat in Sea Story, from The Brambly Hedge Mice. I love how the boat is bobbing around in the stormy waters. The atmosphere you created in the painting is so realistic and yes, it’s different from what you usually do. But I see that in your work all the time, you have a wonderful imagination and are very creative. I know you work intuitively and that is a gift in itself. You are very blessed to have such talent, and thank you for sharing it with us. ❤
Aw thank you so much Kathy! I absolutely love that it reminds you of Brambly Hedge - I have always adored those illustrations! I've not heard of Sea Story before but I just looked that up and I can definitely see what you mean about that little boat - I love it 🥺 Thank you for your lovely words, what a lovely thing to read to start my week 🥰💖💛
Loved your video! So fun to watch you use these blocks in different ways. I have some and have only used them once. You have encouraged me to get them out and try them again.
This is one of my favourite paintings of yours. I really loved how you pushed yourself out of your comfort zone to create this moody landscape. I liked it both before the pencil on top and after!
Fantastic review! The Derwent XL Graphite Blocks look amazing-your detailed testing really highlights their versatility and performance. I especially appreciate the demo on blending and texture. I’m definitely adding these to my art supplies wishlist. Thanks for the great insights!
Oh Katie, I love this! I love a moody sky so much. Going to have to dig out my inktense & graphitint pencils because the marks you’ve got here have me inspired with how yummy it all is!
Oh, I have these blocks and forgotten they were water soluble!! You totally inspired me. I just did the opposite to you - a tiny mini painting. I think they are fun to use with a brush. I love the way you have used them in just every way!! Great, as always. Thanks, Katie.
Ooooooooooooooh I’m going to have to have a go. I absolutely love this. Thank you so much. Those stormy skies and rugged landscape are so much what I’d love to do. Now going to have to shop 😂
Katie, First: Love all the variety you managed with them ! The outcome is so immersive . Second: We all know the dust they create is BAD for our lungs and we shouldn't blow . Solution ? There are mini vacuums made for pastels ! I saw one shaped like a Lady Bug that fits into your palm and you just place it over the dust ! Yes , it is an additional cost , (obviously) but if you use these types of products a good bit it might be worth it? Especially if you have children or pets . I've also seen artists use damp paper towels around the work to blow dust onto ...just not sure if it really is effective . Thanks for the wonderful demo !
Not blowing dust isnt because it spreads, although it probably does, but just before you blow you take a deep breath in! You don’t want any foreign materials in your lungs. Many thanks for the demo, you make them look wonderful.
Their graphitint pencils work just as wonderful as the blocks. I was so shocked at the vibrancy of the colors because they lay down very dark, but throw water at them and suddenly it's bright 'Meadow' green and rich 'Ocean Blue'. Immediately had to order some more lol
It's amazing how much the colour changes for sure! I haven't got the Graphitint pencils but I find it the same with the Inktense pencils - a complete transformation when you add water! Those colour names sound perfect 😍
I love how you used these. What a fabulous painting. It’s definitely different from your usual stuff but in such a good way. I love the dark and moody vibes of it. 💙🩶
Great video Katie! I’ve had an eye out on these and the color blocks for a while. I recently got the gabsi tambi graphite watercolor set but I don’t love them. I think I’d prefer something more versatile like these graphite blocks.
Thanks so much, Katie! I think the biggest plus point for these is just how versatile they are, I would struggle if they were just in a pan set because I get so much joy from scraping them over the paper and playing with texture!
Oh my goodness this is so lovely! I've been waiting for this video because I have some of these graphite blocks. I'm excited to get them out again and play. I like the idea of using them for a base layer. Also, I love your sweater! :)
If you mix the colour into a paint you can run it onto the inside of a dip pen and use it for details in a sketch, would have been useful for the boat.
In my own experience with Derwent blocks, they tend to be streaky and gloppy, but watching you here, I remembered that you embrace streaky things and use them as texture. I need to write a note to myself for my Inktense blocks to embrace the streakiness. Thanks for the lovely photo and good video. Pretty.
Exactly that, I love to embrace that texture! Hope you have fun with your Inktense blocks - you can always layer over the top too if it's too much! Thank you for watching 🤗
Thanks for watching! In some parts the water has 'fixed it' but mostly where it was diluted quite a lot. For the areas where it was thicker it's dried matte and is still definitely rubbing off, so will need a fixative ☺️
@@KatieMoody Thank u so much for letting me know. That was what I needed to know to decide if they were right for me. They are not! 😆 So thank you for saving my pocket. 😆

Hahaha UA-cam is such a dangerous place for our wish lists, I'm forever adding to mine 😆 Thanks for watching, Ohn Mar! 🥰
Ok that is something that I have never considered buying before but I'm definitely thinking about it now. You looked like you were having so much fun. And I loved the colors.
Thank you, Guðlaug! It was so fun to really embrace that playful aspect of creativity 🥰
Haven't been interested in the bloks, but I love what you did with them. There is so much energy in that piece. What a great example of what happens when you let go... and play.
Absolutely! Thank you so much Paula! 🥰
A beautiful and powerful picture, Katie! I love to see how you always start with seemingly random shapes and marks and then you come up with stunning pictures! In this sense, this video is very much you, and shows that you are a great artist! 💜
Thank you so much, Judit 🥰 I'm so glad you enjoyed it and thank you for your lovely words, so glad it still feels like me! 💛
I really really liked watching you work with this new material. I am intrigued by them!
Thank you so much Nancy Jane! I always find it so fun to try out something different!

Wow thank you so much!! So glad you like it, it has really inspired me to continue working like this and pushing out of my comfort zone!
@@KatieMoody looking forward to seeing more, then!😊
Oh Katie! This is SOOOO tempting me, all that gorgeous texture! 😍
Thank you so much, Eve! Hope you are doing well my friend! 🧡
Love the stormy vibes from this page, I think it looks so good in your style. This is definitely something you could paint more of 😄🩷
Aah thank you 🥰 I feel like we're getting into the right seasons for it so I'd like to embrace the moodier vibes for sure 😃

Aah thanks so much Jos, that is so lovely to hear! I love the idea of a tiny painting, isn't it amazing the range we can get with one medium! 🥰
😎😎😎😎,,,, that was cool to see u haveing enjoying it and making it work for ur art work thanks

Thank you so much Patrizia, an excellent point! I will have to look out for a little vacuum when I use these blocks and pastels in the future!
Not blowing dust isnt because it spreads, although it probably does, but just before you blow you take a deep breath in! You don’t want any foreign materials in your lungs. Many thanks for the demo, you make them look wonderful.
Great! Now I have to buy them 😂 Thank you for the great informational video. loved the way your piece turned out.

Thanks Emma, so glad you like it! With the way the weather has turned I think I'll be getting a good amount of moody skies to practise this season 😂
I love watching all of your videos!! It’s been the highlight of my day. This one was really fun because I’m interested in trying this medium. Cheers!

looks like fun
It really was! 😄
Oooo these are juuuuicyyyyyy
Yesss and requires very little effort to get that effect! 🤩🤩
This looks so wonderful ! I love how you use the Blocks ! ❤ What fixativ do you prefer ?
Thanks so much! 🥰 I like the pastel spray fixative from Jacksons, and also one by Sennelier but it's a bit more expensive!
If you mix the colour into a paint you can run it onto the inside of a dip pen and use it for details in a sketch, would have been useful for the boat.

Beautiful...
Thank you so much 🥰
Hey, thanks for the video. Quick question: Does it still need to be fixed even after adding water? Didn't the water 'fix' it? Will it rub off?
Thanks for watching! In some parts the water has 'fixed it' but mostly where it was diluted quite a lot. For the areas where it was thicker it's dried matte and is still definitely rubbing off, so will need a fixative ☺️
@@KatieMoody Thank u so much for letting me know. That was what I needed to know to decide if they were right for me. They are not! 😆 So thank you for saving my pocket. 😆
Hi. I turned them upside down in the box so the writing doesn’t wash off
Smart idea!! I don't know why I didn't think of that 🤣
🤗🤗🧡🧡🩷❤❤💙💙💚💚💜💜
Thanks for watching, Joan! 🥰💖🧡
I always get stressed by mixed media because I don’t know what fixative to use as some fixatives damage certain mediums but not others.
Most of the time I don't use fixative at all, but mostly that's due to things feeling 'safe' in my sketchbook!
