    Yay! You’re back!
    The tall spindly cactus is called ocotillo (little torch).
    You’ll be passing through my birthplace soon - Silver City. It’s an awesome little town. Great food.

    Good thing you started early on day 1! I've read books from people that hiked the CDT, but yours is the first VLOG I've watched for this trail. Looking forward to your travels.

    Congrats on getting on trail. Your Dad looks my age(71). I have seen many people get lost trying to find the the southern terminus of the CDT. Avoid the dead animals because predators are around them. Last year a herd died in the mountains. They attracted grizzlys for quiet a while and caused that section of the trail to be closed.
    Don't count on water. Carry extra. Getting dehydrated is nasty. As a Scout Leader and a Platoon Leader, I always carried an extra canteen hidden in my pack for first aid emergencies. Is your belt adjusted correctly if your shoulders hurt? Good video. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick

    I had to bail in late March, bad footwear caused Achilles inflammation. But will follow your journey and live the experience through your eyes. Make sure to take lots of photos as well as videos. When I got home I realized I didn't take many photos but lots of videos. Anyway good luck bud!

    • @goobsadventures
      @goobsadventures  Рік тому

      Yeah, that cow smelled terrible and there were definitely buzzards circling above.

      When you’re on a long thru hike you never know what day it is because it doesn’t matter, but I know exactly what you’re talking about.

    • @MarmaladeOutdoors
      @MarmaladeOutdoors Рік тому

      @@goobsadventures once on trail you have no idea and it doesn’t matter until you get near the end but I’m trying to gauge when I should start. What date did you start? Of course snow levels will be important as well

    • @goobsadventures
      @goobsadventures  Рік тому +1

      I started on April 16th, it's posted right on screen when I started the trail at the monument.

    • @MarmaladeOutdoors
      @MarmaladeOutdoors Рік тому

      @@goobsadventures thank you and guess I missed it. I know it’s all about how much snow there is in Colorado and how many miles in the desert you average. I’ve completed the PCT so the logistics are very similar to that trail not getting to the Sierra too early. I’m thinking at the start of May but as I said it’s dependent on how much snow there is. Also the problem with going later is the heat in NM. Guess it’s all a tradeoff

    • @goobsadventures
      @goobsadventures  Рік тому

      Yep, with your experience on the PCT I would think an early May start would be fine.

    Oh dear!! I can see where this is going to be addicting! Why is the trail called 'wash?' My guess - when the rains come the water washes thru. On to #2!!

    • @goobsadventures
      @goobsadventures  Рік тому +1

      Yep, the water channels are commonly called washes.

      @@goobsadventures My plan is to start on April 15 and to take my time reaching CO. If the snow situation allows I'll continue. If not, I'll look at flipping north. It's still too early to make snow predictions. Your video has been helpful for planning. Thanks for sharing.
