      I don't have a problem with ethnic mixing, I myself am the product of generations and generations of different cultures coming together. The problem is that humans are afraid of people who are different. Being different is good, not bad.

    I am not American and so I might be missing a lot of context. But it seems to me that Beau gives really good advice. If you, as a combatant, are facing kids and their parents, you act like they are kids and parents. Make sure that your orders are lawful and descent, not just because of the threat for prosecution, but because you need to live with yourself afterward.

      It may not be better to be shot in the head when questioning if an order is lawful, but all countries must follow Geneva conventions. This is why shit rolling down hill is so wrong. Those in positions that should know better are senior NCOs and officers. They know if the order isn't lawful, yet they get a pass. This higher up, the less accountable. Even if the soldier on the ground conducts his/herself honorably, a situation can still out their lives at risk. When I served in the gulf war, our officers said that we lower enlisted were embassaders, as if they paid us so well. In truth, the expectations placed on the enlisted is entirely too high. One just hopes the guys/gals on the ground truly understand what is it is not legal and has a good moral compass, even though this could get one summarily executed, or suffer from reprisal according to the UCMJ and a jury of peers that may be all folks who give orders and don't care why you thought an order was illegal. All the risk and responsibility is on that soldier, and the higher up folks can completely avoid accountability. The moral dead man or the jailed criminal never seems to be a good choice. Hopefully that can't happen at our border.

      It's fear mongering. I recall after 9/11 there was the color coded terror alert report. Much like a flag warning of you go to the beach and intend on surfing. Last time I ever heard of their color coded terror alert system was on the 2004 election day.
      And Bush was re-elected and that whole color coded report that every day was announced by the white house and reported by every news outlet, even CNN and MSNBC as actual news, magically ceased being a thing. Why? Because it was a tool the right used when needed to evoke fear in voters to keep them in line.
      The Republicans have the southern border and their last fear tactic to use on the populous. Unfortunately it's an the point of near facism. Because the caravan is seeking asylum, which is legal. Especially since their country of origin is all fucked up with politica and cartell violence our CIA funded.
      Maybe we would be better off not arming cartels and not staging coups every time a socialist is elected president in the central and southern American countries. Maybe we should just let them clean up their countries without us intentionally mucking them up. And don't fear the Boogey man of socialism. Because at times it has worked before the CIA intervened either through military coups or contra wars where we started and funded the criminal organizations to create the chaos down there in the first place.
      But Hey, it's not in our interests of allowing corporations to dominate their markets, so that's bad. Seriously, we have mucked it all up down there. The least we could do is follow our own laws and help the asylum seekers out.

    • @williamroop451
      @williamroop451 6 років тому +4

      @@runefjord8446 While you are technically right, when a soldier serves in the military they are conditioned to follow and trust orders given from higher ranks. It is important that this chain of command is followed because, in an emergency or combat situation there won't be time for the leadership to explain to each soldier and answer questions... the mission just needs to happen. Punishment can and does happen if the chain of command is ignored or bypassed. The statement above was about being put in that position in the first place. When working a job in the civilian world, the worst punishment for disobeying is that you may get fired. Disobeying a direct order in the military in combat situations can be determined as treason - punishable by incarceration or, in cases extreme enough, death. I know, "that kind of thing doesn't happen today." Except the soldier doesn't get fired .. they are considered as property of the U.S. Government. They would be held, tried, and punished by military chains of command and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. In the past, many soldiers were eliminated by those chains without external oversight. Besides these facts, the control of the upper chains of command is reinforced constantly during a soldiers tour. Just as they are conditioned to think of the enemy as non-human targets, they are conditioned that command is correct within the frame of the mission - there MUST be a reason they are being ordered to perform a task a certain way. "Brass must know what they are doing."

      @@williamroop451 I totally understand that you would be tried for (at least) failing to follow orders, but wouldn't a defense of "the orders were not legal" hold up in court?
      I understand that it totally sucks for the soldier in question, and there is no time to go through the legalities of each and every order, but a soldier also has a responsibility to be somewhat familiar with the law, and moreso do commanders. and I can also understand soldiers following some orders even if they are illegal but that should also be followed up with reporting the illegal orders.. blind obedience is dangerous, especially when dealing with an institution like the military

    • @williamroop451
      @williamroop451 6 років тому +4

      @@runefjord8446 Again I agree with you technically... But peer pressure and command pressure are very strong motivators. Add to that the chance that misinformation happens and the militia groups that are running down to "play soldier" and shoot themselves an invader (I'm NOT trying to say that all militia are like this, only that some have that mindset. I work with a couple.) And the potential for harm is there. EXAMPLE SITUATION: Soldiers are tasked with patrolling an are to make sure no one crosses a field. They see a group of "invaders" moving towards that field. Preparing for the confrontation they are in a heightened state. Out of the field, they hear a couple of gunshots... Taking cover (proper response to incoming fire) they hear a couple more shots. In their minds and through their orders, they feel compelled to fire back. AFTER the firefight, investigation shows that the gunfire they heard was coming from a small group of militia who thought that it would be effective to fire a couple of warning shot to scare away the invaders... Too bad that a few of the invaders got shot up by the soldiers... The whole situation is a Powderkeg that can blow up and 1)endanger human lives and 2)embarrass the U.S. military.

The total number of people is about the attendance at a mid-week afternoon NBA baseball game if that. Everyone comes with two hands and one mouth and totally willing to work in whatever job can put a roof over their heads, and food on their tables because there won't be lead flying through their living rooms. All I know is he didn’t believe in the politics of it, he was just told where to go and placed to tank up and sling chains to make sure the pathways for the troops behind him were safe. He served his country by doing his job that he swore an oath to do by the commander in chief. He did his job well and respectfully to the people he was protecting and the civilians of another country he was in. It just kind of hurts my heart to think about what’s going on. You explained it well and thank you, your passion and respect is obvious. Other than thank you, I don’t know what else to say or think. It feels like strange times that in my 34 years I’ve not experienced....prayers for protection of everyone on each border.

    I consider myself a moderately intelligent individual. However, we all have gaps in our knowledge. Certainly, a lack of _experience_ in a vast number of areas. That said, I really appreciate your videos. As I considered leaving a comment, I was a bit disconcerted that I was simply hearing things that followed my own core beliefs. But unlike other content that just feeds into this, I have come to *_learn a great deal_* from watching your channel.
    Back in High School around the early to mid 80s, I was in the Marine JROTC with aspirations to join the Corps. Sadly, I inherited my mother's kidney issues. But I've never let go of the respect I've had for those that serve. All while still very much understanding that they are just people. Which means, _like all of us,_ they *each* have the same potential to at times be good or bad, smart or ignorant, wise or unwise.
    Much needed words of advice Beau. Thank you.

    The terrifying thing is it just takes one guy to take a shot and all hell breaks out. It becomes chaos. If this thing goes turd up, that's most likely what will happen. I am South African and that's happened here a few times under Apartheid and the new government. Its so easy for something to go wrong and these kids are going to pay the price for being part of some political theatre. Worst of all, it will be positively received by many people.

    Hey, been watching a few of your videos lately man. Just recently "discovered" you, and I'm loving what you have to say. This video reminded me of one of my favorite movies, Kingdom Of Heaven. Critically panned and a lot of religious folks hated it. But it definitely helped me form some of my own ideals, so there are things- quotes mostly- that I'll never forget. This video reminded me of this particular quote:
    "You see, none of us get to choose our end really. A king may move a man. A father may claim a son. But even when those who move you be kings or men of power, your soul is in your keeping alone. You cannot stand in judgment before God and say 'But I was told by others to do thus.' Or that virtue was not convenient at the time. Remember that."
    Thank you for your videos, man. Hope you're having a good one.
