- Tomorrow, Shopian district will vote in the first assembly election since Prime Minister Modi decided to abrogate Article 370 in 2019.Ethnic Kashmiris in Shopian, like voters across the region, are focused on special constitutional status and questions of ethnic identity. But the Gujjar-Bakarwal nomads who live in the Pir Panjal mountains, running along Shopian’s southern rim, are mainly talking about survival.
ThePrint Consulting Editor Praveen Swami, and Video Journalist Danish Mand Khan travelled four thousand metres above sea level to look at Pir Panjal's Gujjar Bakarwals & why they clash with authorities frequently.

Being a gujjar I can say that we have always been patriots, it's kashmiris who have been creating nuisance and should be dealt with very severly ,Modi g has done a commendable job

There is no such things that you are talking about (That nomads helps terrorist) Last year army kills three civilian (gujjar)in upper reaches of rajouri DKG area because of army misconception that these people help terrorist but later they found out they are innocent. So please don't drag these innocent people into that conservation.
Some of them do help terrorists to enter into kashmir... unfortunately other suffer.

Rizwan Ahmed, In 65 war they gave away important intel on Indian army to Pakistan and then did the same to Pakistan army, bottomline nobody likes or trusts these Bakrwals, they would even sell their own mothers to RSS for a few thousand Rupees!

Reservations always create divisions and animosity.
And govt should cut tax on petrol, to ease economic pressures.
And restoring statehood is important. Governance is getting affected. Perhaps, state govt could procure wool from these tribes, and increase avenues to sell.

My question is ...what the IAS officer incharge of that area is doing?
This reservations point is useless because earlier their only 10% reservations given to Gujjar communities…but now it is 20% for ST which means it is 10% exclusive for Gujjar (so other community can’t get this 10% only Gujjars are allowed ) and 10% for pahar is (only pahari aur allowed no other) So Gujjar lost nothing they had exactly what they had earlier but they are jealous that some other also got same privilege…..It is also constitutional as Supreme Court has legalised Subclassification among SC STs😂😂

Can't say how exactly but definitely more bruta||y than how they're now occupying many areas across India & World, especially in Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, London, Birmingham, Paris, Stockholm etc & transforming the "secular areas" into the so called "Muslim areas" which was then followed by ralib, galib, chalib..
In 48, 65 and 71 these Bakrwals were playing both sides ie giving positions of Pakistanis to Bharatis and vice versa. Bottomline NOT TO BE TRUSTED!

No sane listener needs to hear more than 1.56 mins. I continue to subscribe to The Print due to the honesty of intent, but stupid folks being honest will still be stupid. They became educated without bothering to preserve their traditional livelihood. None of their children are real Gujar or Bakarwals now.
Whenever our journalists talk anything regarding Islam or Muslims, we could sense a palpable fear which we don't see when they talk about Hindus or Hindutva. All this could've been avoided had our founding fathers listened to Dr. Ambedkar during partition.
