Unfortunately this train does not serve Madison; Columbus, WI is as close as the current infrastructure gets. Madison is hopefully going to have a station built at some point in the next 5 years (the former stations are now a restaurant and the headquarters for a power company).
Scott Walker's legacy
In 2010 Wisconsin governor Scott Walker turned down federal funds to extend train service to Madison.
It looks like it goes on the old Milwaukee Road’s Olympian Hiawatha route! If you’ve never seen video of that train, then I highly recommend you see a video of it. That was one super high class passenger train!
Excellent!
Awesome reporting job
Wonderful! Although not like the days of the Burlington Zephyr or Olympian Hiawatha trains that used to go between Minneapolis and Chicago.
Aren't this just the same route as the Empire Builder?
Yes
Lol are they really taking off today? Its going to blow over!
Hold the phone. Please explain why Minneapolis was left out as a stop for this new service.
Amtrak does not have a station in Minneapolis. It has always been in St. Paul.
You mad sis?
@@Mandcfreyit hasn't since the 70's.
@@dvferyance I guess that seems like always. Lol
@@Mandcfrey Actually, when Amtrak first started service in 1971, St. Paul was not on the stop list. Trains stopped only at Great Northern depot in Minneapolis.
Ah- Aurora Borealis!? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your kitchen!?
Know your geography! The train and the Mississippi are about 40 miles apart.
The train does not go through Rochester, it goes along the old Milwaukee Road’s Olympian Hiawatha route. 😉
🧐 Project "The bee honeycomb model of the conglomerates"Will Solve the Problem of Megacities 🐝. Archimedes XXI century 😇.
But did you ever ask WHY??????
New train but same old tired coaches and service.. Trains on this route were faster in the 1930's...almost 100 years ago!
The Democrat Express
Yep. Funding infrastructure.
You again...
Hopefully it has plenty of coal.
Is there SECURITY on the Train????🤔
No, which means it's less stressful than flying.
8 hours for that?
Too slow. They could have high speed trains in the US but they rather prop up Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan
Facts
Oh puleeze. 1) If a high-speed train was opening up today, the planning (including securing the funding), engineering, and construction would have had to been well underway before 2020. You can't blame it on foreign aid that we don't have high-speed rail. 2) There is a high-speed rail project underway in California. However, I read almost nothing but criticisms for its very high and continuing to escalate costs. 3) A Chicago - Madison portion of the line could have been in operation by now, but "Governor" Scott Walker cancelled project. 4) In 2021, Congress appropriated $66 Billion for Amtrak, a record amount. How much more should have Congress appropriated for high-speed rail lines? 5) A new high-speed rail line would involve moving huge amounts of earth and construction of new track and large bridges because high-speed rail would not be compatible with the existing CPKC railroad line. This would have involved major environmental and community impacts.
Prior to 1960 pretty fast rail service did exist between Minneapolis and Chicago. You had four railroad companies vying get you between the two cities the fastest. 400 minutes or less. You had your choice of the great Northern Empire builder, the Burlington Zephyr, the Chicago Northwestern 400, and of course, Milwaukee Road’s Olympian Hiawatha.
Bro really thinks we can get high speed rail with a snap of a finger.
@@jaydee975 Yes, I know about the choices and the faster trains prior to 1960. "Pretty fast" MIGHT be achieveable without spending tens of billions of dollars on a separate rail line. The question is how faster trains would be integrated with CPKC's freight operations and Metra's commuter rail service. Additionally, I suspect that "pretty fast" would not be fast enough for "coochiecrook."
