So a few years ago I had my AirPods in as I was boarding. As I stepped on to the plane a shifted my shoulder bag over my head and bumped one AirPod out… and watched as it fell through the crack between the plane and tunnel. 😫😨
The flight attendant saw it happen. A few minutes later I hear “To the gentleman who lost his AirPod, please push the call button. We have it.” Haha! I couldn’t believe I got it back! 😄 10:34

I used to travel full time for work, and I had this happen multiple times.
Just an FYI, when a flight is delayed more than 2 hours, they will usually give you vouchers for food when asked.
Also, if a flight is cancelled due to anything other than weather, they will usually give you a free hotel room.
Once you're back home, contact AA customer service and see about compensation.
What happened was beyond their control. They pilot's duty time was the final factor in the cancellation.

I’ve been through this type of thing many times and yes it’s frustrating but what I hate more is the people who throw hissy fits and yell at staff who are NOT in control. I love watching people scream at the gate staff because a flight is delayed because of weather or broken parts because they of course can control those things! You handled things well!

And us Aviation employees TRULY appreciate flyer’s like you. People think we purposely cause delays to earn extra money…No! When the airplane break is on and sitting parked we also, sit, sweat on the ✈️ and do not get paid. We have no control over Mother Nature. It is safer to sit on the ground than to try to fly through a State that the weather has storms. Turbulence or the airplane getting struck by lighting is definitely not a fun experience. You are appreciated! 🙌✈️🙌

So true. Sometimes the first transfer is the way to go, but not always. I've heard stories personally from people in PHX about delays, sometimes due to excessive heat, seemed more like something with the craft here.
Either way, total bummer, don't be mad, also nobody should be mad at the 14 hour pilot rule. Definitely want those people well rested.
My father in law used to work for UPS as a long road driver, he told me stories how 20 hours straight pretty much those would go, they had two drivers. One starting drive and 10 hours were their limits. When that 10 hour was met, that was when they switched. The previous driver was in the back sleeping and resting then tag team time that 2nd driver switches and off they go.
He said they never spoke etc, when it was time to switch it was one punched out on the clock and the other guy punched in. 14 hours though, not gonna lie, let them sleep. Don't want pilots pushing it. Take off and landing especially, just do it safely.

This happened to me once. The plane had a failure in the cockpit. One of the displays for the primary instruments had failed, and the technician AA sent didn't have any spare parts to fix it, they'd have to cannibalize it from another plane, and it would've taken too long, so they just cancelled the flight and re-booked folks for the next one. The problem for me was there was nasty weather going through and that flight promised to be rather......rough. So, I opted to take a flight the next morning, and stayed at the hotel attached to the airport, to fly out the next morning. It's annoying, but just like cars, things break in planes and engine breakdowns happen. Tis life.

Nothing available to NYC until the next day. Things happen, some people get upset, but would they want to fly on a broken plane?

The plane has an Auxiliary Power Unit ( APU ) in the tail to power the lights, air conditioning etc... while the plane is on the ground. This burns jet fuel, so if the aircraft sits on the ground for too long it will need a top up of fuel. Your flightpath has changed due to bad weather so the amount of fuel required to fly a longer route around it adds to the amount of fuel required. I sat on the ground for 45 minutes at Sydney airport because one of the planes Black Box flight recorders was faulty and had to be pulled out , a new one fitted and signed off by an engineer.

If the airline cancels a flight not related to weather, then they usually pay for your hotel and provide meal vouchers. Also, try to find ANOTHER customer service center in a different terminal. They will probably have a shorter line.

    • @willb.383

This could be why AA delayed refueling and were slow on finding replacement crew at a hub. They wanted the cancellation to be about the weather that forced a change in flight plan and not about their issues. Therefore, they aren’t required to pay travelers.

Although the flight had been booked in January (final destination Copenhagen), she was told she was on stand by. With Air Canada, you can't speak to just any agent...you must speak to one person in particular, who tried to brush her off. She ended up with a guarantee of a seat. Hours went by, they finally towed the plane to the third gate. It was total chaos.

I live in Florida but work (remote) from my office in Phoenix, so I travel to PHX a couple of times a year. My FL friends & family say - oh AZ heat is different so it’s not so bad… I say it’s still HOT and temps into the 90’s at night…. I’ll stay in Florida - plenty of beaches here (panhandle).
Sorry for your delay - you handled like a champ.

Hi Adam, that's a lot of test driving🚗 you get to do. (pretty neat) Sucks what has happened to you,
but like you said, better safe than an Oopsy. (well you didn't exactly say that, but you know what I mean) Glad to see you make the best of your situation. I love your positive, calm, and always looking for the good vibe. Stay safe and very hydrated☺

I’ve never been there when it’s like 115 degrees. First time I went I left here (in January) and it was -15 & landed in Phoenix & it was 80. Totally got why people moved out there at that second!

As a train traveler, it’s nice to know that AMTRAK doesn’t have a monopoly on delays and cancellations.

Man you just brought back childhood memories of riding the Amtrak train and the train broke down in the desert outside of Salt Lake City..in the summer and the train cabin started filling with smoke!! I can’t remember how it ended up but it not a pleasant experience! 😓. I guess it’s better to break down in route on a train than a plane!

i remember taking the train from home from colorado to chicago after a skiing trip and we had a major delay due to a freight train breaking down half way back and the train didnt have enough food for everyone for that long of a delay. eventually the evacked us on a bus to get back. that was a long ride home🥱🙄

I flew out of John Wayne in May. Going through the TSA checkpoint I left a handkerchief in my back pocket and the x-ray machine caught it so the agent gave me the full pat down even though the x-ray showed I didn’t have anything else on my person. Glad to see Sky Harbor is better.

My experience on mechanical delays is to rebook ASAP. They always downplay the delay, etc.. Too many cancellations and hotel stays after “a brief delay.” Hard-earned lessons.

Adam, you need to go to Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, North and South Dakota, Alaska and cover that area. That would take up a good month probably. Why you haven’t is beyond me. There’s tons to do out there. So many national parks, hiking and camping. You might not be able to cut it in the wilderness though lol.

@@QuincyDisneyVegan his shtick is getting a little boring tbh. He needs to start putting in more new things. Its mostly Disney, Universal, Knott’s Berry Farm, going to California back to Florida traveling the country here and there. The baseball parks were cool I will say, but there needs to be a new gimmick. Covering the national parks, hiking them and camping would be cool

You talk about returning your rental car and the metal spikes. maybe 15+ yers ago we were returning to MCO to fly back to the UK and it had been raining really heavy and as we hit the spikes the tires span and both front tires got punctured. The guy standing there just said we weren't the first car that day. ever since then every time I drive over one my mind goes back to that day. So the moment you bring it up I always remember that

Flew Delta a few years ago and the plane had an issue mid flight. So we landed early and the airline put us up in a nice hotel and we also got a meal voucher. Made it to our destination the next day.
