Can confirm the latter! I actually didn't eat the cake cause it seemed a little suspicious that it was brought in after registering for a fight. If you leave it, do the battle and come back, the Blue Koopa will have eaten it and roll around on the ground in pain.

I love how layered this moment is because after beating the final boss of the chapter, you understand the whole cake situation. It helped me realize the true intentions of Jolene.
So back years ago when I was around 12-15 I was playing this chapter in the original GameCube game. I was at my grandmothers place with some cousins also. So after the fight I was given the not poison cake and my grandmother called me for food and so I did and during that my cousin took the controller and walked out of the Major league room and the Shady Koopa ate the cake when I took back control. I was so f***ing pissed off at him because I needed a full recovery before! That memory burns whenever I play this chapter.

You know, I’ve played TTYD since it originally came out when I was too young to even read. I’ve always known the cake was poison from my older brothers telling me so since I didn’t get to Glitz Pit until I was old enough to play the game properly, so I’ve never seen the cake actually being eaten until just now 🤔
Did they change some of the dialogue here too? I could have sworn that if Goombella or Koops is out, they end up forgetting to leave any cake for Mario.

funny thing, i ate the 1st cake and it full healed me (like normal) the 2nd cake i didnt eat because i was already full hp, and thought "well it's just a full heal, i dont really need this" i only learned it was poisoned afterwards

i ate the first cake they gave me and it healed me and restored my FP. when i got the cake from rawk hawk i didnt eat it because i had just used to the bed to restore my health and FP so i decided not to eat it. it was so funny when i returned to the room after the battle to see the koopa had eaten it
So i didn't eat the cake because i was actually on full HP and FP by the time the last fight finished so i went straight tonthe next one, so interesting to see what happens if i you did eat it, does this mean just that partner is out the next fight or just partners in general are out
I forgot about the second cake being poisoned so I made my partner eat it, and then I was forced to solo the Red Chomps WITHOUT the ability to use the hammer (it was my condition for that battle) which let me do piercing damage! And I didn’t have enough SP to use earth tremor or any good damaging items. I got defeated shortly, and then here’s the kicker, the next condition when my allies were BIA (back in action), I was told to only use partners to do damage, and so I used Yoshi for the joj.

I had Koops out when thus happened. Why? Because I always have Koops out he is the best partner you can't change my mind. Anyway the first cake I was a bit suspicious of... But then I let my guard down on the second one. Of course on both I was legally required to tell "THE CAKE IS A LIE" as I walked over to it... I didn't think the second one was... Actually a lie.

Kind of weird that it disables ALL of your partners no matter who you see eat it. I assumed Mario would eat it and start the battle with a status condition or something, but I avoided both cakes on my first run since I get a full heal from the bed anyway.
So for soem reason i thought that if i were a partner during this time i'd probably sound like this: (oc self insert btw) 1st Line (when cake gets put on that stool): "Hm. Didnt reall like cake anyways, but i'm kinda hungry." 2nd Line (when the player picks the option "yes"): "Cool! I guess." 2nd Line (when the player picks no) (3rd to 5th line wouldnt happen): "Welp. I didnt trust this anyways, so it's best to leave it alone and let someone else demolish it." 3rd Line (after he eats the cake): "Well that was better than i exepcted." "Aaand i knew the side effects were gonna..." 4th Line (when the character falls to the floor): "goodness gracious i should never trust these....again..." 5th Line (after match is ready): "...why...did...i...even....do...that..." 6th Line (when they spot the blue koopa on the ground in pain due to the cake): "jeez. That guy's gotten probably insane. Also thr cake is gone." 7th Line (after the blue koopa basicslly says they shouldnt have eaten the cake): "...We just dodged a bullet. I just saved myself. I knew something was odd."
If it's like the original, they would go through the animations, but the text would say "No Message [ENGLISH]." That's what happens in the original when partners appear in cutscenes they shouldn't
no, you can choose "no" and the cake is left there. neither you or your partner will touch it, but (spoiler) someone else in the room will and experience the effects.

Doesnt the freelance camera guy also mention something about rawk hawk and a cake? Honestly I've never eaten the second one solely because I didnt need the recovery at the time, then I noticed in later runs how different each looks

funny thing, i ate the 1st cake and it full healed me (like normal)
the 2nd cake i didnt eat because i was already full hp, and thought "well it's just a full heal, i dont really need this"

When I had an option to eat the second cake (the poisoned one) in my mind I'm thinking, "is Mario really gullible enough to trust cake from a stranger, when there is a bed right next to him that does almost the exact same thing?"
It's crazy how Rawk Hawk got away with poisoning multiple people in this game. People just laugh it off.
i ate the first cake they gave me and it healed me and restored my FP. when i got the cake from rawk hawk i didnt eat it because i had just used to the bed to restore my health and FP so i decided not to eat it. it was so funny when i returned to the room after the battle to see the koopa had eaten it
I actually didn’t eat the second cake cause I just slept and was like “oh. I’ll eat it after the next round” so I missed a bullet lol
first they tell me not to drink cool-aid now there telling me not to eat cake
So i didn't eat the cake because i was actually on full HP and FP by the time the last fight finished so i went straight tonthe next one, so interesting to see what happens if i you did eat it, does this mean just that partner is out the next fight or just partners in general are out

And that is why i say no to that cake.
I forgot about the second cake being poisoned so I made my partner eat it, and then I was forced to solo the Red Chomps WITHOUT the ability to use the hammer (it was my condition for that battle) which let me do piercing damage! And I didn’t have enough SP to use earth tremor or any good damaging items.
I got defeated shortly, and then here’s the kicker, the next condition when my allies were BIA (back in action), I was told to only use partners to do damage, and so I used Yoshi for the joj.
funny thing, i was already full hp and fp when i received the cake, so i thought "oh I'll just save it for after the fight i guess" and then i come back to the cake gone and one of the locker room guys practically tweaking.

You have a choice whenever you can eat the cake or not. Just like the Original you can just ignore it
I never ate the cake the second time in the original. I don’t know why it didn’t compel me to eat it the second time…. I guess I was eager to fight again!

I didnt even know it was poisoned. I ate the cake b4 and it was fine, however i decided to leave it this time so i could use it to heal later rather than sleep XD

I only tried this once and I actually avoided eating the cake the first time I played. I didn't know the cake was poisoned. I was going to eat it after the match so I can heal without using the bed.
Did their eyes spiral in the original? Aren't there glitches to have the other partners in the group at this point?

On my first playthrough i took the safe cake, then didnt take the seccond because i was at full hp and at full fp (wow i dogged a bullet back there)
I had Koops out when thus happened. Why? Because I always have Koops out he is the best partner you can't change my mind. Anyway the first cake I was a bit suspicious of... But then I let my guard down on the second one. Of course on both I was legally required to tell "THE CAKE IS A LIE" as I walked over to it... I didn't think the second one was... Actually a lie.

I didnt eat the second cake, because, when I eaten the first one, the game said: the cake was delicious, but you don't feel all that well. That hinted me that the next cake will be worst. I didn't play the game in English.
I never went for the cake and even if there was a good one, I let the NPC dig in.

Also, if you leave the cake, one of the Koopas in the room will eat it instead, so they find out that the cake was poisoned either way.

The cake only appears the first time through Glitz Pit which comes before any of them join your party, so none of them can eat it.

I never fell for this when I played the game as a kid- what happens in the battle? Do you just not have that specific partner, I’m assuming?
If your partner eats the cake then you have to do the battle without them

Kind of weird that it disables ALL of your partners no matter who you see eat it. I assumed Mario would eat it and start the battle with a status condition or something, but I avoided both cakes on my first run since I get a full heal from the bed anyway.
First cake restores star power iirc. Also if you talk to the escort guard before the match he's all like "sounds like a you problem bro lets go"
So for soem reason i thought that if i were a partner during this time i'd probably sound like this: (oc self insert btw)
1st Line (when cake gets put on that stool): "Hm. Didnt reall like cake anyways, but i'm kinda hungry."
2nd Line (when the player picks the option "yes"): "Cool! I guess."
2nd Line (when the player picks no) (3rd to 5th line wouldnt happen): "Welp. I didnt trust this anyways, so it's best to leave it alone and let someone else demolish it."
3rd Line (after he eats the cake): "Well that was better than i exepcted."
"Aaand i knew the side effects were gonna..."
4th Line (when the character falls to the floor): "goodness gracious i should never trust these....again..."
5th Line (after match is ready): "...why...did...i...even....do...that..."
6th Line (when they spot the blue koopa on the ground in pain due to the cake): "jeez. That guy's gotten probably insane. Also thr cake is gone."

If it's like the original, they would go through the animations, but the text would say "No Message [ENGLISH]." That's what happens in the original when partners appear in cutscenes they shouldn't

no, you can choose "no" and the cake is left there. neither you or your partner will touch it, but (spoiler) someone else in the room will and experience the effects.

Eating cake is optional. Whenever you want choose to eat or not is up to you. It won't change much storyline just different outcome
