Das wunderkind! I was a big fan of Alex in the 90s WCW. He was always such a great talent and he is kind of underrated. He was a hell of a wrestler and seems like a great guy. Glad he is doing well.
Great interview. I was a big fan growing up. His dance was always part of my gimmick when my brother, cousin and I would wrestle eachother. I always liked Marc Mero too, it's great to know that I was a fan of some of the nicest people to have ever wrestled. Thanks for your time and efforts to deliver these interviews.
Loved the interview. What a guy, seems very genuine. Liked him as a kid. He’s like 8 years older than me, and somehow looks 10 years younger than me. I had to look up his recent photo, because he didn’t look that big in this video, but I found one on reddit and he’s definitely big.
My favorite Alex Wright Story was Sabu refusing to job out to him heh. I remember he was into like Bible Study so I think he got along with many in WCW. There a lot of Born Agains but not sure if he is I forget. I barely remember the Berlin character I think he won Cruiser Weight as the dancing gimmick thing. Steven Wright was a great comedian so probably most don't know about his wrestling. That could explain why he used Steve Wright heh. I wish asked him if he was related to the famous one too. That is cool how he sorta lucked into things with them doing Germany tour. I can't seem to remember Japanese names even in Manga or Anime so I know how that can go. His English is better than most from the UK so its funny they got England hehe.
I don’t believe it was a vampire gimmick. His valet at his debut had the name Uta Ludendorff. Ludendorff was a high decorated general in world war 1. So it’s obviously. The vignettes, the name of the valet etc. all about soldiers and things like that
Achtung achtung here is thomas from wuppertal Germany!!! CWA in wuppertal?! Mind blowing! Will visit Nürnberg to meet Alex hopefully and by circumstance ask him about that!!!
Almost positive this is what he was thinking of too. If so, very possibly its absolutely accurate during those finals days of WCW. Id love to see the match too.
It was strange how he simply disappeared from North American circles after WCW folded. Social media did not exist back then so unless we could research at libraries, most times you never did find the information you wanted. I enjoyed the heck out of Alex Wright and only recently made the connection between Berlyn and The Wall ( better late than never I suppose). It's good to finally hear from his own mouth what happened.
Alex Wright was a phenomenal worker. His gimmick suffered due to his poorly handled heel turn to Berlyn. They had him looking far too weak over the last few months of his babyface run by losing to cruiserweights. Later, when he left WCW TV as the Alex Wright gimmick, it gave off the impression that he just stunk and quit wrestling. When he later returned as Berlyn, they didn't even explain that he was Alex Wright and they didn't give Berlyn the mic time to explain the dastardly heel turn by connecting it to all his inner theories behind his losses as a babyface. That's basically what Jericho and Bret Hart did around the same time, and it could have worked with Alex/Berlyn, but WCW needed that air time to promote NBA players or something.
Not sure of the whole story, but Steve Wright saved Chris Colt's life by getting him out of Mexico in 1973 or 74. Not sure what Colt did, but he was at risk. Maybe James can ask Alex next shoot.
Alex was one of my favorites to watch in the 90s, These Interviews have been good
Alex Wright is definitely in my Boy Stable.
He's aged phenomenally.
He's only 47/48 years old
He is freaking fantastic. Underrated as hell.
He is just a straight up cool guy. I’m happy for him.
Das wunderkind!

It makes me happy he smiled at Saturday Wright Fever

Truly enjoyed this one James, thanks for keeping the full length content coming brother. 👍
It's 2023 and I still do the dance randomly sometimes. You made your Mark in the industry bro. Not to mention I'm black 🤷🏾♂️😂

wooooo! what a pick by Flair. Alex Wright is money.
He was one of the best in ring talents!
Das Wanderkin. Former WCW TV Champion Alex Wright. Thank you for being a part of my childhood Alex Wright.
Wunderkind :) Wonderkid in english
Quality interview, quality guest 👍
Brilliant interview
Great Guy,Interesting Interview!
Alex Wright was fun to watch. I was a huge fan! His Berlyn gimmick was ahead of the time. He was so underrated, he should have been a bigger star.
Been waiting for this one.
Awesome interview. Alex Wright looks like a very cool guy & I never knew his dad was a wrestler. That’s very interesting. 😊
Great interview, James. And Alex looks great.
Thank you for sharing the full interview. Alex is a great guy.
Alex was great to watch, we missed out because the WWE was not able to sign him
He knows the word „Sympathic“ because it’s „sympathisch“ in German 😆 in Germany we say „auch ein blindes Huhn findet mal ein Korn“ 😆
Real cool guy 😊
sympathisch bedeutet "likeable" auf englisch.
What a great interview
BEST WRESTLER EVER and I MEAN THAT!!! Perfect and Flair compete for 2nd
One of the unsung heroes of the dark ages of WCW. Reliving The War has given me a new appreciation of him.

Hey man! It's Alex Wright, the German!
I never got that his character berlyn was a vampire back in the day.
I don’t believe it was a vampire gimmick. His valet at his debut had the name Uta Ludendorff. Ludendorff was a high decorated general in world war 1. So it’s obviously. The vignettes, the name of the valet etc. all about soldiers and things like that
i watched Alex as a teenager for all the RIGHT reasons 🥵🤤
Ahhhh... I'M TELLING MOM.. you'll be in trooouubblleee🫡
Achtung achtung here is thomas from wuppertal Germany!!!
CWA in wuppertal?!
Mind blowing!
Will visit Nürnberg to meet Alex hopefully and by circumstance ask him about that!!!
class act
It is probably aj styles alex was talking about cuz he said he wrestled in tna.
I was thinking the same thing
AJ was my thought as well
James you still doing outstanding job every time you doing interview

das wunderkin
He was fun to watch I always wonder what could of been.
The Disco comment is still spot in. lol
Alex does seem very cool though.
Still James's #1 nemesis: That damn intro!
He should go to the States now and work with Gunther

He was thinking about giant haystacks for smelliest wrestler. He's such a good person, didn't want to put that business out there.

Tony schiavone has issues with Alex's um ya know
Big bratwurst
My dad met him in the airport once and he was sort of struck by how big of a dude he was.
He challenged Mike Graham. Greg Gagne was not a bully. And if you saw him wrestle Ronnie Garvin he never backed down.
Das wunder
Das wonder kin
Alex Wright never drew a dime
James from WSI never drew a dime
You two couldn't rub two dimes together
You needed 4 starts to draw a dime?
BS
Drew plenty in Europe and sold gobs of merch to the girls. So hush.
Marty Janetty always sucked.
