He skipped a lot of things like Forever Hardcore or things like that etc. Was pretty cool as fan of him. Him throwing down the NWA title things like that. More focus on ECW as most fans prefer that over the WCW or WWF especially for guys like this hehe. Funny must have did this in Winter as its really hot here while he is talking about snow and cold ;).
Shane is honestly my favorite shoot interview. His story he told about 10 years ago on his battle with Oxycontin was one of the most intense, inspiring stories I've ever heard.
I actually like hearing Shane talk about stuff other than wrestling haha. We’ve heard all the wrestling stories before, for the most part. He’s always awesome though.
Hearing about his teaching days is very good. Interesting hearing how he deals with working as a celebrity wrestler while being a teacher at the same time. Was there anybody else who had a day job as well as wrestling? I heard about George Steele, but he always denied being "the Animal". Mr. Douglas never denied who he was in school, but he made sure to differentiate between The Franchise and Mr. Martin.
Hey James! Found your channel not long ago and just been binging your interviews while at work and just gotta say I love the interview style and all the guests you get, keep up the amazing work man
Your wrestling shoot channel is the only one that gives Kayfabe Commentary a run for its money. These interviews make me respect these guys a lot more. I am now a much bigger fan of Shane Douglas. He comes across as very personable compared to what I was expecting. It would be awesome to see you interview Mark Lewin and a few more old veterans these guys name drop from time to time. Dick Slater is another one.
Shane Douglas undoubtedly one of the nicest people I ever shared a locker room with. Treated me like he known me all my life Much respect and helluva job James. Keep on keeping on.
When Shane talks, I listen. Top 5 best to interview and in my Top 5 of all-time wrestlers. Hope to meet him some day here in the midwest. Miss seeing him on weekly TV wrestling programming.
I've had a 15 minute conversation with Flair at a celebrity golf event in Myrtle Beach, I've spoken to Ivan Kollof a handful of times because he lived next to my hometown, and I've spoken with Ricky Morton for a good 30 minutes at a signing. All were fantastic. My next goal is to have a chat with Shane. He seems like a genuine guy.
Great interview. Shane's comments about teaching/special ed reflect my own and the reason why I ended up leaving the field entirely. It's less and less support for kids who need it the most, then there are the parents who insist on IEP plans because they want their kids to have an "easier time" and get into a "better college." Honestly, the kids I got along with the best were the ones who threw a chair at me on day 1 and then pulled a chair out for me to sit down on the next day. Interesting how so many people who are into physical activities/professions end up going into and thriving in the teaching environment.
51:10 damn that's the second story I've heard of Mike Awesome stepping in and saving a fellow worker. First time was with Sabu and the yakuza. Mike must have been an "awesome" guy. R.I.P.
James I wish you could interview The Grappler Len Denton. The stories he can tell about his days in Portland wrestling would be a good listen. Especially having to deal with Don Owen
I read Len's book.enjoyed it very much and your right 782,lots of stories about his travels all over the world.would also recommend dirty Dutch mantels 2 books.
Every time I hear Shane talk about his WWE run I have to shake my head. That dude was the best heel in the business at the time bar none and they stripped him of everything that he was.
Shane Douglas was so good in Ecw as The Franchise he could have been one of the biggest stars of all time if Wwe or Vince McMahon would have let him use that character
JYD was released from WWF in 1988 he was in WCW 89 to possibly 93. He wrestled with Dudes with a attitude at Great American Bash 1990, against the Horsemen. Shane possibly crossed paths with JYD between 89 an 93.
@@randallrigney420 did you know people who have master degrees work at McDonald’s lol College ain’t worth it when you work as a fast food joint after college lol
Shane, We , You n I n G- son Zayed had a photo Opp at an Indie Show in Reynoldsville Pa. Thanks Bro . He has the nicest smile and eyes lite up. Love Tou You Bro ...
It’s gotta just eat at him that everyone knew he had the mic skills and ability to be a top heel in the wwf during the attitude era. He could have easily been right there fueding with stone cold or the undertaker.
Always a great interview. I suspect that Shane, as Troy Martin, could hold an intelligent conversation about the conflict in Ukraine 🇺🇦 or climate change.
I thought Mick made an incredible point and "What if?" moment in the history of wrestling on his podcast. What if Shane Douglas actually went to the WWF January of 2000 as The Franchise? My God, imagine a heel Shane with Francine dual promo'ing with The Rock. He could've generated ultra heat, nuclear heat. Too bad Triple H had the political pull to have that spot locked up, but that Franchise character would've been so fun in Attitude Era WWF
Shane is a smart dude . In a place like ECW he had freedom to show his psychology and IT WORKED !!! In other places it seems his hands were somewhat tied creatively . Same with Raven . Another smart dude . Both these guys in real life and the biz . If that makes sense in the way i put it .
Let’s not forget that Shane was saddled with multiple terrible gimmicks (Dean Douglas and one of the Dynamic Dudes) and a tag team partner, John Laurinaitis, whose high point as a wrestler was as the flag bearer for the Sheepherders. It is hard to overcome the damage those lame gimmicks caused.
Shane is right about the Covid year for public schools. It was touch and go. I’m in a teacher masters degree program so I was in classrooms that year. It was tough, but they will get through it. Kids are pretty resilient
I like the fact that personally damaging gossip is off the table with Shane interviews. Dirty Snitch Mantel will give out people's government names, current phone number, social security number..
He went into a management trainee at Target and moved up through their ranks quickly. At the time he was trying to secure a permanent teaching position but was just getting yearly gigs.
I wish I could find these mythical places that shut down due to COVID beyond 3 months in 2020. Sure wish these miraculous places existed so I didn't have to go to work.
New York was shut down pretty much couldn't even take dog to Vet or have Vets on staff it was a real nightmare. STill is locked down like living in Escape From New York only worse ;).
I never get tired of listening to Shane's takes on his career and the business in general.
In my opinion, Shane's promos were the best. His interviews are pure fire, too. What a legend!
Shane Douglas always gives the best shoot interview for any company.
WSI, I can't wait for Part 2 (if there is a Part 2 in plan).
Holy hell. Hey Ken. Long time, no chat.
Yes, there’s plans for part 2 in the near future

Shane could not talk about wrestling the entire interview and I'd still listen.
ditto.
This English dude is killin it. Love the Dutch podcast!
Always enjoy Shane's interviews
Any time I listen to Shane Douglas I learn something from Shane Douglas.
As a teacher and a wrestling fan, this was a treat to listen to. Shane is a smart guy.

Shane’s the man! Most underrated guy in wrestling
Shane is always a great interview- wrestling or non wrestling he's always interesting to listen to.
Dude is spot on!
Barry Horowitz and George South were two of the best jobbers, very good ring hands

always liked Shane, he is always fan friendly
I always have thought the tag team of Shane Douglas and Ricky Steamboat was/us so vastly underrated...they were an incredible team
Shane is a cool dude, met him several times

my favourite of all time, everybody looks at me strange when i admit that.
Nobody had heat like Shane
I was never the biggest fan of The Franchise, but the guy is amazing at these shoot interviews.
As a former teacher, I can confirm: dealing with parents is a majority of the struggle.
Shane is one dynamic dude

I had the chance to work with Mr. Denton for a time back in the early 2000s. He is a brilliant storyteller. And he has a boat load of them!
Always was one of my favorites, remember his rookie year in UWF. The Big two never used him properly or to his maximum potential.
Every time I hear Shane talk about his WWE run I have to shake my head. That dude was the best heel in the business at the time bar none and they stripped him of everything that he was.

Love from england Franchise!!
I'm such a mark for shane Douglas (the Franchise)
Shane had to have left in 1991. I just watched the 1991 Royal Rumble, and Shane Douglas was a competitor in the Rumble match.
45:40 It was like smelling somebody's ass LMAO!!!
Shane Douglas of the midnight sheet rockers
Randy Savage off camera was awesome to meet when I met him at an autograph signing for his "Be A Man" CD.
The more stories I hear the more I like shane even though it's not his real name

shane is smart as shit. I find it hard to believe he couldn't ever get an office job in WWE
He already has a job he's a Walmart manager 🤣.

The climate just changed again. From Summer to Fall.
Shane is spot on about the Education system. If you are any good and care they run you out. But no one cares.
You'll do the God damn job to Mark Callous in 2 minutes with the heart punch and you'll like it!
*Throws garbage can at Jody* I love that story.
Shane should start his own school. And then spread it as a Franchise.
@Andrew Armstrong
Saw what you did there! But so totally right on imagine the wisdom he could share with a whole new generation.

Everything he said is exactly why I quit teaching.
Ha , valuable pieces
When did you film this? You said it's cold and wet in England meanwhile we're in the middle of a heat wave!
Running through archive interviews until I catch up. Alex Wright is episode 51.
-3 Celsius is cold? Lmao Try living here in Northern Ontario Canada. -3 is like shorts-weather.

Shane is a legend! Always a stand up guy, except that one time where he told the world to kiss his arse ofcourse lul

Dory Funk and Mike Dibiase once wrestled for 4 .5 hours
Shane “The day time sheet-rocker “ Douglas???? One hell of a tile setter!!!
The Battman was Tony Marino
-40 is where both temperature measurements meet
I'm hoping we get Yinzer Shane Douglas in this interview...
George South was probably the best enhancement talent in NWA . Barry Horowitz was probably best in WWF .
Say what you want about Shane Douglas the wrestler but I can say Troy Martin the man is a good man.
Shane Douglas is based as fuck..
Shane is always the hero or victim of the story
No shade to Shane, but CFC's are still in use.
I nvr seen shane until one 97 i found ecw by mistake and fell for the violence
Pittsburgh booo

Why isn't Shane still teaching? Why did he have to go to work at Target instead?
He went into a management trainee at Target and moved up through their ranks quickly. At the time he was trying to secure a permanent teaching position but was just getting yearly gigs.
Wow $25,000 for each kid and they still can't read or do math
Is it just me or is this interviewer kinda hot!! 🔥
My education sucked . Louisiana doesn't care if you can think . They only care if you can work .
As some One who at one stage did want to kill themselves legit, James change your view, thank you. Cold weather is nothing bud

Why would a biology teacher be talking about CFCs?? CFCs are a chemical and ecological issue.
