  • Taking some time to help a fellow Jeeper in need. Mike, a local dude had the misfortune of striking a deer. It demolished his grill, half of his header panel and punctured his radiator. He reached out for some help after finding my let go parts adds and recognized me from UA-cam (so cool!) I helped him source parts on ebay (thanks DeadJeeps) and then we put it all together one cold afternoon.
    Some important things to note - Early 90s light bezels are diffrent from mid 90's! and when doing a radiator swap don't forget the trans fluid!
    Thanks for watching!

    you are totally correct Dan! the engine bay on the XJ was designed for a 2.5 I4 and the 2.8 V6 which it got for the 84-86 model years and then they crammed the AMC 242 4.0L in there and the rest is history!

    How ironic, My son just hit a deer in the front right quarter of his 98 xj - It's homesteading in my front yard while we figure out what to do about it. Not sure how many of it's part might be useful in my 89 xj...so ..maybe we sell it for parts, or start a collection of xj yard art!

    Just now hearing about the bad casting for the 2001 Jeeps, I'm in line to get a good 2001 but I hope I don't have any problems with that, apparently it's only and issue if it's overheated right?

    the best bonds are made working on a jeep Cherokee xj ....

  • @35RSkyline
    @35RSkyline 5 років тому +1

    It you have a head after 01 that has TUPY stamped in the casting between the 3rd and 4th cylinder then you have the updated head and your good. Open the oil cap and look straight down with a flash light and you will see it if it's the updated head. My 01 hasn't have me any issues yet thank god

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  5 років тому +2

      You are correct! I believe the TUPY head came on the TJs after they discontinued the XJs. I have a TUPY on the 4.0 thats goin in Beach Jeep. Unfortunately Black Beauty, my 00, doesn't have a TUPY, but I've been babying her and she's only at 95k miles. Thanks for watching!

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  5 років тому +1

      -26!?! Can Jeeps even start at that temp? lol. Hang in there Jim, it can only get warmer from there! (I hope!!!) The coldest its been on LI so far this winter was single digits (above zero). Thanks for watching, stay warm!

    • @jimflaherty2678
      @jimflaherty2678 5 років тому +1

      Oh sure, modern fuel injected engines do well in the winter here especially if they have a block heater. When I started driving in the 70s we had it much rougher. Trying to start a carbureted V-8 full of thick dino oil wasn't fun. I remember warming your tools in the oven and then wrapping them in a towel before going outside to work on your beater. Tomorrow's low -37F. That's not the windchill either.

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  5 років тому +1

      @@jimflaherty2678 I couldn't even imagine working on a car in temperatures that cold! But if I ever have to, I'll keep in mind your tool warming trick!
