Just got back in to the hobby after over 15 years. Decided to invest in graded cards, mostly PSA 9's from my childhood. This channel is by far the most viewer engaging channel I've found. Great output, interesting topics and truly valuable information. Keep up the good work Sir.
Wow! I was not expecting to see my comment here, thanks for answering my question Jake! To clarify, I spent a little more than I was planning on when I bought the cards, but it was definitely in my budget and I got some fantastic deals! I managed to find 6 unlimited holos, all in relatively good condition, plus quite a few other cards for just over a hundred bucks! Keep up the great work and thanks again!

Just got started recently on Pokémon card collecting it’s some thing I’ve been wanting to do ever since I was a kid but I wasn’t really ever able to. Your videos really help a lot you’ve gained a new subscriber!
Jake I appreciate your perspective on CGC and Fred Chang thank you for the collection. In my research (watching other videos, reading comments, etc.) the overall impression is this: currently, CGC is building a brand that is based on harsh, accurate, and consistent grading (which is a good thing). However, PSA is similar to the main name brands of the world (Nike, Apple, etc.) people are still going to go with PSA due to it's name/brand. Nevertheless, I personally have already seen CGC doing well in the fact that when they first started grading cards in May their prices compared to PSA were only about 75% of the price of PSA. Now, CGC is getting closer to the 80-90% price of PSA (again depends on the card). All in all, I go with CGC due to the accuracy, the consistency, the harsh grading (for more true 10s) and the fact that I personally prefer the slab look.
He's keeping the shirt in original condition and might get it graded. Not many people keep their shirts in original untagged condition. Low PSA population ( Professional Shirts Association).
I have a binder packed full of mint condition vintage Pokemon cards from the 90's that used to be my younger brothers. He collected them all back when Pokemon was at it's infancy but has no interest in them all whatsoever, so now I'm trying to figure out if I should sell them all or just hold on to them all for 10 or 15 more years. This helped me out a lot, and it was fun to hear how much the world of Pokemon cards have grown since the 90's. I would maybe even begin a collecting journey myself if I wasn't already heavily committed to stock market investing. I might just start finding out which ones to start getting graded. I know I have a couple Charizard cards, one is plain and the other is a hologram type, but neither of them are a 1st edition which sucks. Just gotta keep on researching! Thanks, buddy! Liked and subscribed.
Amazing video as always, Jake!! Really like these series on people asking questions to you. COOL!! "Yes, Pokemon will go up in pricing in 10 years, because how rare these cards really big in the market and stock."
Totally agree on the CG artwork - there are exceptions, but I really like them overall. My favorite artist is Tomokazu Komiya, by the way. His style is so unique.
Jake are u the reason why all the full art support cards went up in value? After watching 2 of ur videos speaking about the full art trainer cards, they went up drastically :0

It was coordinated. These MMs (market manipulators) waited til most of the listings were expired and then bid up the prices themselves together. SD pika, evo BB, and FA trainers were all coordinated. Best ex. is the psa 10 sd pika that got sold for 13 or 14k by a 0 feedback buyer when the avg price is 1-1.5k for a psa 10. Hoping ebay tracks these shill bids soon.
I appreciate you acknowledging your influence on the hobby. For the most part it seems like you have genuine interest and confidence in the products you highlight and aren't just shilling to cash in. Unfortunately, people often cannot think rationally in these scenarios and will buy into some of these pump and dump schemes that the community is artificially fabricating. I think we'll see a major decline over interest in the next couple years, peaking later this year and declining as the covid situation improves. Once people go back to their old hobbies they won't have the same amount of time to pursue pokemon collecting online and will spend their money in other ways. I don't think prices or interest will ever go below pre covid though. It also entirely depends on if TPC keeps making crappy games and loses relevancy among the younger demographic, and if they keep demand high by printing sets in waves.
Agree 100% with your perspective here. Prices won't dip below pre-covid times, may be a bit higher but it will take well into 2022 for that to happen. Unless we have another pandemic (fingers crossed we don't) or anything big news event within Pokemon (awesome video game release, anniversary, or announcement of ending of Pokemon) we won't be seeing the prices we are seeing now.

I feel like this is a product of unnecessary hype from new people to the hobby. It's like they don't understand how to value things? There have been so many cards distributed in the exact same way, been available for the exact same window of time, are just as rare etc., as SDP but it's still treated in a comparatively higher regard than it should be. I can only expect the value to even out over time as newcomers' perceptions of value change with experience.
Jake nothing is your fault don't let these people get to your head. Keep doing what you been doing. There's a reason why your channels been getting bigger so keep it up.
Facebook market place is a good place to find card lots cheap. Also if you are like 16+ ask your homies for there old ones. You’ll never know what you find. My friend gave me some with some first editions. I would tell them of any value you found
The quality of the Pokemon games themselves definitely need to improve if the value of cards is to be preserved in the long term. It's not like baseball or baketball cards where the legends of the sport and the sports themselves will never go away. I personally don't even care about charizards for example, simply because it wasn't a starter from my own generation and I have no nostalgia attached to it. If the games don't have mass appeal to today's 8 year olds (like they did for us) - these kids are never going to spend thousands on cards in 10-20 years time.
@@slimeballtv4908 the only things I'm holding long term are my mario & luigi pikachus, I have a few sealed Lv. X tins that I bought for nostalgia reasons but the idea that todays kids are going to further increase the price of vintage stuff is stupid. I'm 19 and I don't even own or want any WOTC stuff for my collection besides maybe an umbreon or two. The vintage market isn't sustainable if it's just 50+ year old men left. I think prices will peak in around 10 years when the 90s kids hit the peak of their careers, and then it'll stop increasing.
Think Pokémon go has already proven against this point. I’m assuming your talking about the latest sword and shield releases which I agree they need to be better and build a better connection to the youth. But I think Pokémon go does this and does this to people of all ages. I think you thinking for yourself is awesome but never forget Pokémon go has almost 900 million downloads
Yeah, the games from now which in terms makes the cards from now. Specially greninja, and cinderace, and the starters will probably go up because that’s what kids now are growing up with. So I started collecting those. Part of it is because I like them, but who knows right.
Special Delivery Pika was the best Pokémon investment I ever made. I have not even take it out of its plastic yet. I put it in a flexible foam thing that is meant for phones I put it in a box snuggly tucked away Ima get it out and see if it could be a PSA 10. My only question is: is it better to keep it sealed or sell it and put the money in a compound interest bank account.
Not financial advice but if you are selling reinvest in an index fund you will make more money doing that then just leaving it in a bank account where you make practically nothing
I also kept mine in the wrapper, and the centering looks perfect on mine. Super excited about that. Also has half a swirl in the foil; not as good as a full swirl, but at least there is one. Only difference with mine is, I have it in a penny sleeve, then in a top loader, and finally, displayed front and center on one of the shelves on my Pokémon bookshelf display. 😏 It simply isn't a card that I would want to be hidden from sight.
@@bluedragongaming8633 it, without a question in my mind means, people will be willing to pay a massive premium for that specific card. Some people will pay big big bucks for a swirl in the holofoil. I'm talking anywhere from an extra $50, or even an extra $200-$300 which seems to be happening for some of these Special Delivery Pikachu cards, and other times the card can even sell for over $1,000 more than the same card without a swirl. It's ludicrous. Have a look around at eBay sold listings with "Swirl" in the title. :) Congrats on a swirl! They're not guaranteed. It all depends on where the swirls were on the large holofoil layer of the cards while in the printing process. They are literally placed at random and I'm pretty sure there are no two alike.
@@imjody thanks for the insight. With further inspection it appears that the card has one galaxy looking swirl at the top and part of a sparkling dotted swirl at the bottom. You got me excited I am looking into getting it PSA graded now.
Thanks for answering my question and everyone else's! Btw, in mine I also mentioned liking CGC for giving out subgrades, which I definitely appreciate! I suppose we can also observe what PSA does in the near future, especially with their new leadership!
CGC has a good opportunity right now since they already are the most popular comic book grader with 20 years experience plus they have we better looking case than PSA (and the subgrades).
Yo Jake just want to say thanks! I took your advice and bought 2 special delivery Pikachu’s both under $90. I checked today and now they’re selling for $300!
Hey jake. Upper mid 20s american here. When I was a kid we all sorted them by type, especially the wotc kind. I just bought a vintage collection and the kid had them sorted all by type. I found a black star promo pikachu in the bulk as i was thumbing through a stack of pikachus lol. Going off for grading! Love the channel! Dropping my 2 cents. Much love brother.
20:00 I like sorting by color. I do tend to put some commons and uncommons into binders to keep in prestige quality and look for evolution as well as pokemon type (water, grass) because having all in the same background color looks a lot nicer.
Another Great video that’s very informational. Keep it up! I personally wouldn’t consider it “amateur” tips though. You’re a rising star. Be confident in yourself
Thank you so much Jake you have helped me with collecting cards and you have brought me back to the hobby, you really inspire me and you seem like a very nice person. I do have one question though, do you know any places that sell cheap and reliable Pokemon cards/pack? THANK YOU!!
Great content Jake, keep it up! Big thanks from germany. Personally I think that the Pokemon hype will cooldown after the pandemic. At the moment lots of people rush into the hobby because of the on-going hype and lack of alternatives due to the pandemic. With more and more people being vaccinated, I think we will be getting back to normal by spring 2022. People will return to their old hobbies (sports, travelling) or go out more and lots of them will drop out of the hobby again. I will wait for that time because these people will try to sell their collections and by that flush the market with good raw cards, graded cards etc.
I think cgc will surpass PSA just looking how much harder it is to get a Gem mint 10 and just talking about how PSA hands out 10s like it's nothing. I'm almost certain that in the near future they will have certain labels that are limited edition just like they do for comics and just makes cgc for me at least a better option
I’ve been going to family Dollar’s dollar generals what not and buying all the booster packs if they have a theater three cards in them or 10 cards and I am going to hold onto these things unopened sealed stored away for 10 years and we’ll see what happens I have a ton of the three card booster packs for different Pokémon game titles probably 250 to 300 of them.
A ebayer that's not all about hype hes wearing a nice button down fly btw and honest you can tell he's speaking from the heart. And someone that's been collecting since 95 96 I think your on point with just about everything.
I have an Eevee binder organized by evolution, and a “cutie” binder that is mostly organized by type, i need to get in there and reorganize some of it. I think it looks nice having all the fire types together, all the water types together and so on especially since my binders are such a mix of sets.
Hobby outlook in 5-10 years, just have to think how old the first Gen of Pokemon fans are right now, 30-35 year old. I'd say the hobby has another 40-50 years until every generation is in to it until they die of old age. Yes there will be dips of how popular it might be, but the job for us current fans is to show how much we enjoy and want to have others join in. Teach those kids, show them the easy fun that can be had, games, cards, merch.
20:30 uhh Jake.. I totally don't sort by type. LOL! Also, I like how you divide the video into segments so we can see the different questions and watch the different parts! Keep up the great work
I dont like how or why Charizard is so hyped, and everyone wants it, there are so many cooler and nicer cards. I rather have a mewto or dragonite. hmm?
Maybe its just me, but I will always prefer a japanese card purely because of the silver border instead of the yellow. I just think silver is a way more neutral and pairs better with other colors
I’m holding onto mine for dear life.. I don’t think we’ll ever see another solo Rainbow Rare of the franchises #1 mascot.. once this set is out of print this card will do numbers we’ve never seen from a modern card.
You should have a look at some of the Pokemon League stamped supporters, staff stamped regional Lillie looks amazing and is harder to find than most of the full arts!
I went over my budget with hidden fates today, they were accepting some pre-orders again. It sold out in less than 3 minutes. Managed to pick up a lot of them. But still not planning on selling them anytime soon, because I want to be able to open them in the future too.
People called me dumb for getting a xy evolution booster box for 490$ now you can’t even find a box on eBay for less the 700$ it keeps going up every few weeks
Your not stupid! I was going to buy one at the $500 price point after I traded mine for 108 Vintage Holo's! (I ended up buying a bunch of Base Set Charizards instead!🤣🤣) so now I have to look at buying one at $700! Lol.
I have been watching UA-cam for years and nothing about pokemon and you are my absolute favorite UA-camr seem like such a nice guy! Also can you give us a heads up about delivery charizard once you know! Lol

@@imjody i have a swirl at the top of my card. What does it mean?
@@vincentguimond6283 Thanks, this is good to know! I really like the case and subgrades!
I am personally happy with your fullart trainer video (cause I don't collect them... But ALWAYS seen to pull them)
Yo Jake just want to say thanks!
Can you please do a video on base set 2 vs base set vs unlimited
Man jake I love how you talk about money one of the reasons I come back to the Chanel all the time
Wait til you see the next video!
THANK YOU!!
You made full art trainers go up like crazy 😭 after your video prices sky rocketed!
I agree with your stance on the CGC and PSA comments.
I'd love to see your collection Jake! :)
I agree on the CG artworks. That poor Magnemite from Neo Discovery is the first card that strikes me as “rough”.
What are your thoughts now on the psa 10 special delivery pikachu, currently over $10k?!?!
@Team Trubbish yeah its over 10k now, crazy for a new card
I buy most of my Pokémon cards on ebay...
A ebayer that's not all about hype hes wearing a nice button down fly btw and honest you can tell he's speaking from the heart. And someone that's been collecting since 95 96 I think your on point with just about everything.
apparently one psa 10 special delivery pikachu sold for over 10k. 2 days ago its insane.
Great video!!! Your videos really helped me start my channel and I hope to continue growing with the hobby!!!
All it takes is someone famous to shout out CGC and tell people how awesome they grade and what not.
If all of us made post about CGC it would get the respect.
UnlistedLeaf already did this
So psa owns a lot of graded cards but doesn't take pokemon seriously. Funny, I dont take professional sports seriously.
I have an Eevee binder organized by evolution, and a “cutie” binder that is mostly organized by type, i need to get in there and reorganize some of it. I think it looks nice having all the fire types together, all the water types together and so on especially since my binders are such a mix of sets.
Love your insight and investing focus!🙏👊
*Maybe investing isn’t the full focus, but it’s a great help!
Crazy spike in special delivery Pikachu.
Appreciate u puttin in this work for the people
Thanks for the video Jake. Always appreciate hearing you’re POV on things.
Love your channel so much ! Such a smart, great guy !
20:30
uhh Jake.. I totally don't sort by type. LOL!
Also, I like how you divide the video into segments so we can see the different questions and watch the different parts! Keep up the great work
I dont like how or why Charizard is so hyped, and everyone wants it, there are so many cooler and nicer cards. I rather have a mewto or dragonite. hmm?
I feel u on that. U say u like Dragonite. R U looking for a non holo fossil Dragonite?
yea holo snorlax , ditto, dragonite, gengar , any first edition holo in fossil set is under rated.
I kinda agree. I think some of my cards have as much appeal if not more.
sir will the prices go up or down if I'll sell these cards after 5-6 years , please let me know (I've some rare ones too that's why asked)
You are very wise my friend. The Warren Buffett of Pokemon.
So my girlfriend has a huge topps collection. I almost wrote it off and then started looking them up. Wow
I have 127 topps
Maybe its just me, but I will always prefer a japanese card purely because of the silver border instead of the yellow. I just think silver is a way more neutral and pairs better with other colors
Buy what has high demand and hold it :)
Love your info man. Always droppin knowledge
Strictly from a financial standpoint, Rainbow Pikachu Vmax from Vivid Voltage, will this accrue value or should I sell?
I’m holding onto mine for dear life.. I don’t think we’ll ever see another solo Rainbow Rare of the franchises #1 mascot.. once this set is out of print this card will do numbers we’ve never seen from a modern card.
I just got a steal yesterday!! I got a special delivery pikachu for $149. They are going for $250 and up. I think that is good in my opinion
Great video Jake !! Thank you for you amazing content and everything you do for the hobby !
What do you think of the Digimon TCG that's coming at the end of the month? I think the art looks really nice.
Von The art work looks cool, I want to buy a few. Not a bad idea also,
Im sorry if you sayed it in this video but how much do you think hidden fates tins will be in 5-10 years?
Maybe $50 - $100
Awesome video!! Some great insight and advice. Keep up the great work!!
Hey Jake great vid as usual! idk if you answered this already but where do you usually go to buy ur japanese promo cards at?
I usually by from Japanese eBay vendors
You should have a look at some of the Pokemon League stamped supporters, staff stamped regional Lillie looks amazing and is harder to find than most of the full arts!
Facebook groups for collecting too
what's the background music around 8:30?
some great knowledge dropped ty jake
I went over my budget with hidden fates today, they were accepting some pre-orders again. It sold out in less than 3 minutes. Managed to pick up a lot of them. But still not planning on selling them anytime soon, because I want to be able to open them in the future too.
who is they? pokemon center?
@@ZBatt1 a trading card store in my country, got them for retail price
Love these kinds of videos man!
What’s the top booster boxes to buy in 2021 Japanese and English (investment purposes)
Lol
Will do!
Hey jake , you content is awesome and helpful! I would like to be on top of all the 25th anniversary réalèses this year, what’s the best way to do that and get ahead of scalpers .?
I've got a question. When should I buy a binder?!
