Been saying for years (before I even drive trucks) that learner drivers should have to go out in an artic for at least an hour or two and see what it’s like from a truckers perspective.
Yeah just don't carry a flare gun with you haha
Hi take care buddy and good luck for the future.hope you are well and enjoying your trucking Phil.
Cheers buddy appreciate it!
Agreed on NEVER rush. I'm rarely late anywhere but that's cos I like to set off early and have a comfort zone. I would NEVER let a planner put pressure on me. If anyone in the offices says "Put your foot down" that's classified as incitement to commit an offence and they can lose their operators licence for that. If I'm tired I'll stop for some fresh air. If something stresses you out stop and have a few mins to chill out. Checks are a legal requirement, do them. I'm no "Jobsworth" but my licence is my livelihood and I'm not paying heavy fines or going to prison for anyone. As for car drivers we just have to be 101% expecting everyone to do something stupid and it's THAT level of concentration that leads to fatigue in my opinion.
Yeah thats it mate, i wouldn't say a jobs worth at all just doing what you are ment to do brother!
Lack of load restraints, poorly loaded vehicle, overloaded axles
Distractions as you've mentioned
Not observing road signs and lane markings
Not reading the road ahead
Not driving to the conditions of the road
Poor hazard perception
I'm annoyed when I see any LGV/HGV tailgating other vehicles, it's unjustifiable where road safety is concerned
Drug and alcohol abuse
Other Road Users
Every RTA is caused by a human; what they did or didn't do
Yeah mate, all those and more.
It's especially hard now with the amount of people on the road It's almost impossible to not cross paths with atleast 1 bad driver a day.
Truck passed by as walked through a town and a disc, broken into pieces, shot out from the trailer....so worn, it snaps and was so hot, melting tarmac! Driver will be told of for delays although he'd listen axle to carry on driving!
Sadly, the facts are operators simply use, abuse and sack drivers should they not wish to break the law.
Yeah there is alot of that out the unfortunately.
I want less rules and more hours.
9 hours a day is not enough.
I'm away for 8 months at a time.
So being parked up at 2 pm some times is simple a waste of time.
Some people are happy taking home 700/800 pound a week.
I'm not.
I could easily drive 15 hours a day,no problem.
I get that mate, being away and have such restrictions must be annoying.
In some countrys they have a course fatigue management so they can work up to 17 hours a day.
