The show didn’t imply Phillip and Penny had an affair at all. It was very clear the nature of their friendship, I don’t understand why people are claiming otherwise.
Yep, even on the show I got a father/daughter vibe. Philip was also close to Anne; it felt like a similar relationship, and the show portrayed it as Elizabeth being paranoid, not that anything other than a platonic relationship took place.
Yes I perceived it as platonic, it was never suggested it went beyond what we were shown so it's not clear why anyone would think of it as an affair at least on the show.
I was disappointed how little they showed of Dr Khan, when in reality he was with Diana over two years, she traveled to Pakistan to meet his family and hoped to marry him, and was with him right up until months before she died, and was with Dodi sort of as a rebound fling. He was one of the most important people in her life.
@annabel levy It's fcked up of course, but Camilla was his love from the beginning. Like, I can't necessarily blame 100% to Charles, it's just the royal family system that was so fcked up that they ended up in the sytstem. Poor diana trapped in it. It is what it is
I liked how there was both fact and fiction in the scene where Princess Margaret reunites with Peter. It's bittersweet, in that it was short-lived, and Peter was slowly dying, but they both clearly still care about each other.
@@snorlonikins1 I don't believe that. They saw how the public was on their side and changed the story to make it seem more like Elizabeth was reasonable and Margaret acquiesced. It was and is always about protecting "The Crown." Even the show pounds that point constantly. They admitted as much this season. Margaret called out her sister and Elizabeth didn't even deny how she deprived her sister of the life-long love she herself was allowed. And why should she have to drop her title? She was the King's daughter too. Being born second doesn't make her any less worthy.
@@annabellevy3388 '' In a statement read on BBC radio, Margaret said: "I have been aware that, subject to my renouncing my rights of succession, it might have been possible for me to contract a civil marriage. But, mindful of the Church's teaching that Christian marriage is indissoluble, and conscious of my duty to the Commonwealth, I have resolved to put these considerations before any others." While Townsend had divorced his wife in 1952, the Church of England's then-strict rules about remarriage after divorce forced Margaret's hand. Under the Royal Marriages Act of 1772, the Princess required the Queen's permission to marry before the age of 25. Although she had turned 25 that August, she still needed the Parliament's approval and they had already made it clear they would not offer her consent. ''
I don’t think The Crown made it look like “an affair” - Penny was grieving & seemed lonely & we’ve seen many times, Philip struggles too. I only saw a close friendship.
Sure, in the 90s. But she lived at Sandringham until his death 25 years later. The Queen lived at Windsor. PK was at his funeral, when you couldn’t go to funerals during lockdowns. There was no attempt to hide the nature of it. It doesn’t have to be fully sexual to be infidelity.
I'm really impressed by how well they managed to recreate the infamous "Revenge Dress" for Elizabeth. The costume department definitely deserves a huge pay raise! 👗😍
Not that tacky necklace though, that they focussed on so prominently. Cheap little clasp like that only exists on chinese tat. Dianas necklace clasped at the sapphire ,just like most chokers of that quality do.
Actually, the part about Charles and Diana sharing a meal after the divorce isn't that far from the truth. Apparently, Charles dropped by to see Diana from time to time and still sent her flowers on her birthday. Sometimes, people get along better when they're NOT married.
@@mistybethune9116 Yes, I believe she got the apartments at Kensington Palace. I think Charles moved his offices to St. James Palace when they divorced.
The three actresses playing the Queen do a phenomenal job 🤩 I’m very impressed by their performances. The more I research about the Queen at those different stages of her life, the more I admire the professionalism of the actresses. They all look and talk like the Queen and even have her mannerisms. Great team effort from the production 🙌 In general, the series has a great cast ❤
I thought they all seemed very humorless! I can’t get over how emotionally flat she is depicted as in this series although I haven’t seen the latest series yet. The Queen had a great sense of humor and that was never portrayed accurately.
@@patclaus8510I think Olivia Colman's portrayal that show the Queen's sense of humour some bit. They included her mimicking which the Queen often did behind closed doors.
The Crown actually tried to get us to believe the public actually prefered Prince Charles over Queen Elizabeth and would be in favor of her abdicating to her son. That was cute.
You're wrong there. A portion of the public did think that. Charles wasn't that unpopular at all. Most of this was before the divorce and Diana's death.
Luckily that opinion has changed over time. At least now people can see that Charles and Camilla are in love and should have been together from the start, and are making a fine King and Queen.
That is super far-fetched. Oh well anything to make sure the monarchy stays in place long enough for Prince William, the REAL king to ascend to the throne since Charles wouldn't abdicate and everybody is too noble to force him to, unlike the old times.
Charles and Diana may not have share this exact scene together, but they did cry together on a couch the day their divorce was finalized and Charles even went to Kensington Gardens to have tea with her, they also laughed and reflected on their marriage. While Diana said she always loved Charles, she had to accept the fact that he loved Camilla. It is nice that they stayed in good terms at the end. The breakfast is clearly dramatized but it represents the fact that they did make peace towards the end. Also, I love her small mention of Darren McGrady, her chef. He has his own YT channel!
I dont think the show said it was an affair. The show got the Phillip story correct. He said "intellectual companionship" and made clear it was platonic.
@@ashleydowney1222 no it didn't - it made it seem in a way that it could be but you never saw anything untoward and Philip said it was an intellectual companionship - essentially clearing up any misconceptions, particularly the way it was viewed from the outside in history. I thought that was handled very well and appreciated that part of the series
Never looked at Phillips friendship as an "Affair". Kind of messed up to call it one. We as humans have all kinds of friendships. There was nothing romantic about theirs!
I watched the entire season and nowhere did I see any indication of an affair between Philip and Penny. Seemed more like a father-daughter dynamic in the show 🤔
I don't think The Crown did any damage to King Charles, nor Camilla. On the contrary, it gave a very balanced narrative and humanized the royals and the situations. And contrary to the hype I heard before it released, it didn't imply that Prince Philip had an affair with Penny, but that they did have a friendship based upon common interests and temperaments.
It was way too nice to Charles and Camilla IMO. I understand that people cheat for very human and sympathetic reasons. But these two were cheating during the engagement, in the early days of the marriage (both marriages) and emotionally when they walked down the aisle. Charles married Diana because she was "suitable," a virgin, and could produce heirs. She was 19, just a kid. They used and manipulated her. It was awful. They were both adults past 30. There is not excuse.
And low-key this season showcase that Diana somehow the problem. She's too much of everything, a spoil woman etc. If anything that the crown did this season is just to suck up the king and nowadays role model hooker. They even went soft in season 4, but this season 5, even softer.
@@annabellevy3388 But C & C weren't cheating during the engagement, they didn't sleep together the night before the wedding, Diana wasn't a virgin when they met but she was after the 'blond woman near the train' incident, she told several staff that 3 young men she wanted to invite to the wedding were her 'exes' not childhood sweet-hearts; when she started fussing about Charles 2 exes attending the wedding she w as gently reminded that if Charles' exes could go neither could hers - she had to think about that - it was finally agreed that all exes at St Paul's none at the wedding breakfast - Diana was happy with that decision
Lots people in the comment section are rightly pointing out that the show doesn't imply that Philip and Penny had an affair. I would also add that the show doesn't necessarily imply that Charles wanted the Queen to abdicate; the character Charles never explicitly said that in the show. Yes, the show implies that he wanted a bigger role, but that could be achieved without full abdication.
In your humble opinion the show is "rightly" pointing out... If you don't see the very strong, not-at-all-subtle visual implication that it was an affair, then you don't see it. But it doesn't make you the arbiter of what's correct and incorrect.
The Crown didn't depict Prince Phillip having an affair, he specified it was a companionship and not an affair in the show - in real life she was one of thirty people at his funeral, they were very close friends
Is it just me or did anyone else Google everytym they watched the characters in crown and match it to the real Kings and Queens and Princess and prince's 😅🤦♀️ lmao and how they all matched up so well they gt all the characters really well matched... also was googling Peter townsend and Princess margot at seson 1 and 2 ...googling in advance to see if they got married...in real life ..lmao before I cud get to next episode I was just so excited to know if they got married 🤧
Ms Mojo: "The affair, false. Phillip and Penny were close, but only platonically." The crown: " We are only friends platonically" Wtf was Ms MOJO watching?
The Crown showed Philip's verbal explanation of the relationship. That's it. Visually, they leaned heavily into the notion that it was a romance. You couldn't see that??
@@epona9166 it’s a perspective, and people can have different perspectives while seeing the same thing. Many say that it is indeed platonic and not the same as what you think.
@@epona9166 I think that's the point, there were romance rumours but it was never a romance and the show handled that quite well in my opinion - showed how it could have been misconstrued but was always just a figment of the imagination of others.
@@longphk I didn’t say what I thought. I just said the show leaned hard into making it look like there was a romance and I was surprised it wasn’t obvious to anyone watching.
I have watched the episode and I love prince phillip and penny's relationship. Prince phillip helped a young woman going through her grieve by introducing her to new hobby. I think that's a nice and delightful idea bcs some women really do need a hobby to cope with grieving
It's just another example of how obsessed people are getting with the physical side of relationships. Someone has a friend... ooh, they must obviously be hitting the sheets. There are such things as emotional, spiritual, intellectual, parental, familial bonds, mentorship, friendship, and more, that have nothing to do with physicality. Imho, if a relationship is only physical, it's not completely healthy, unless that was agreed upon. We need to be nourished in our relationships in all ways, not just physically. Not to say the physical side is wrong or bad, it just needs to be balanced. Again, just my opinion.
Some of the acting is extraordinary, while I'm not crazy about who is playing the Queen and Prince Phillip this season! Love, love, love who is playing Princess Margret!!
Leslie Manville is amazing. I loved both of the others but that scene when she confronts her sister about Peter? It was devastating. I wished we had seen way more of her this season.
Although the show takes creative liberties, I do like that they try to show imagery that goes against public opinion. They show scenes that portray Prince Charles as smart and charming, and scenes that show Princess Diana as childish and whiny. It seems more realistic as no one is truly 1 dimensional.
If your partner betrayed you like that, you would not be "above it all" ( which you would call mature no doubt ). Add in it all being in the media, and the humiliation would be enormously multiplied.
I don't get why everyone is calling this 'Prince Phillips affair'. They made it clear on the show it was a friendship and non sexual. Why is everyone running with this?
Because the show is not an historical record? Prince Philip's will has been sealed for 99 years or something. We have no idea what happened between them. The show completely changed the story of Diana and Kahn, who actually had a fairly serious two-year relationship in which she met his family and considered moving to Pakistan. I don't know if Penny and Philip had an affair. I don't know if she was actually his daughter, either, as some have considered. It might explain why she was at his funeral though, when it was Covid and very few people were allowed in the church.
I have found, and continue to find, 'The Crown' a very interesting and entertaining show. I also do a lot of reading of historical accounts of the events portrayed in the series and I know the difference between fact and fiction. It hasn't changed my view of the Monarchy or the Commonwealth or even that of the individuals portrayed in the series. I have empathy for them all, especially our late Queen. I think that the producers have done an excellent job of the casting and have excelled in getting the vision of the events portrayed as close as possible to the truth. If anyone thinks, however; that what they see in the series is historically 100% accurate: they need their heads read!
Yes! Totally got Google searches on everything I want to know more of whilst watching 🤣 I find it fascinating and I really don't think anyone has been portrayed in a particularly bad light in terms of historical accuracy in their circumstances. Last two seasons in particular I found myself feeling a bit sorry for Charles being torn away from Camilla and essentially forced to marry Diana - he has clearly always loved Camilla, the rest is a result of unnecessary meddling that led to the disaster it did. It's all really rather unfortunate. The only core thing I found in poor taste was the depicted scenes of him meeting with John Major and Tony Blair. Also, despite not being a fan of the Tory party in general, I have always considered John Major a decent person, and I enjoyed his depiction in the show - made me like him a little bit more
@@fionarangel9486 both Major and Blair have denied that the ‘Victoria syndrome’ meetings with Charles ever took place, so wish they wouldn’t put made up scenarios into a programme about people that are still alive
@@madeleinel6089 yes, which is why I know that part isn't true, I just also found it in poor taste and wonder why they would have made such a thing up - as that felt unnecessary and made Charles look bad, unnecessarily
I'm old enough to remember the facts, like the tampon gate, the annus horribilis speech, the use of Prince Phillip's bio samples to the research of the Romanov's identity, Diana's interview, and her revenge dress. About this season, I am not fan of the cast. I think Imelda looks much older than what HM looked at the same age, and she's much shorter... and Jonathan Price has not even a little of Prince Phillip's garbo.
One thing Mojo got wrong here is stating that the show implied Prince Philip and Penny having an affair, when clearly - even in the scene portrayed in this video - Prince Philip stated it was purely platonic.
I can't believe they re-published that phone call!!! Charles! I was blushing! Lmao I can't believe everyone knows this about the King and Queen now! Sooo wild
I think it's interesting to see the fashions the royals wore for different occasions being recreated for the show. It's like an episode of "Who wore it better" and what amazes me is how often the real royal, QEII, Princess Margaret, Princess Diana, even Princess Anne, actually take the prize for looking more glamorous than the Hollywood stars who play them. After all, Hollywood actresses are chosen for their looks, photogenic quality and appeal, but being royal is an accident of birth, or marriage. It's rather amazing that the royals measure up so well.
But you have no problem with the media publishing details of a private conversation obtained through an illegal phone hack, with no justification but profit, and decades later a multinational corporation recreating it, also for profit. How bizarre.
At the time, there was a PSA campaign in Britain to wear condoms to prevent the spread of AIDS. Its message was "you can't die of embarrassment." Tampongate and Prince Charles proved that you can come pretty God-damned close.
The only thing that annoyed me so much throughout this season was the prince of wales kind of chewing (his tongue or whatever in his mouth) while talking all the time he appeared on the screen.
The Crown barely hints at Martin Bashir lying. It should have been much clearer. In the next episode Diana said that she lost employees. That is wrong. She fired them cause she didn't trust them anymore cause Bashir lied and said they spied on her.
@@halftimelordwizard I saw it, but those were only showed to Charles Spencer. It doesn't show the lies that he told Diana, like William spying on her for the family. Many! people don't know that Bashir lied, and they dont get the full story from the crown either. Like i mentioned in another comment. There should have been a disclaimer at the end of the episode.
I like that Ms. Mojo acknowledged the "Meet Cute" moment between Diana and Mohammed. I thought that felt very Meet Cutey, and it seemed like a cute opportunity to make the story more compelling. Then ending with Princess Margaret talking about an Oak tree growing out of an acorn of happiness. Haha. I thought it was poetic and well-done for trying to spin an attention grabbing storyline out of the tragic end to a beautiful life of the actual princess Diana. Anyway, Love you videos Ms. Mojo! Get it GIRL!
I didn’t realize that before, but maybe that’s why I found her to be the most unsympathetic Queen in the Crown series. [edit] Just watched the Ghillies’ Ball scene again (S5E1). Now I see and hear Dolores, not Elizabeth. Major cringe! 😬
How come in some episodes like episode 5 The Way Ahead they didn’t use the season 4 cast for the 80s flash back of Charles and Camila’s steamy phone call? It supposed to be Josh O’Connor and Emerald Fennell in the scene not Dominic West and Olivia Williams. Talk about mistakes.
I have binge watched The Crown and Cobra Kai on alternate days I ended up having a dream of Diana engaged in a hand to hand combat with Camilla And I remember an image of Charles and Diana in a luxury boat in a Japanese Kenpo stance about to bright it on
Agreed, never been his biggest fan, but I cannot argue with his achievements through the princes trust, his views on pairing down the monarchy in general, and of course the importance we must place on trying to slow climate change…..I wonder how differently his and Camillia’s ratings would be if he just married her first and of course how differently Diana’s life would have been if they never crossed paths. The whole saga was a tragedy for everyone involved.

"Tampongate" wasnt anything wrong on his part either. People have very strange conversations with their lovers. Most of us say things in a moment of passion that would embarrass in public. It was a gross invasion of privacy. The show also intended to convey that , as per the makers.
@@r.22r apart from the fact that he was a married man speaking to a married woman not his wife…The world has moved on from the notion that upper-class twits are somehow entitled to have “lovers” whilst ostensibly remaining happily married. Even the upper-class twit married to Camilla understood that once it was out in the open they would have to divorce, if he wasn’t to remain looking like the complete fool he’d chosen to be throughout the affair. Charles expected to have his cake and eat it, too, because that’s what he believed himself entitled to. Must have come as a horrible shock to be forced to face reality at last.
Love the actor playing John Major, PM. Not crazy on the actress playing Diana. Absolutely hate the casting of whoever plays Prince Charles. Seems like a caricature.
Johnny Lee Miller played Major. And made him look way too attractive. His public presence at the time was milquetoasty; he resembled a vaguely nerdy rabbit.
agree! what was casting thinking! I think it helped people see this as fiction but still, literally no one thinks that was a good decision. Nothing against the actor, just doesn't look/seem like Charles in any way.
The answer to the question asked at 5:33 of why Peter Morgan (who is an anti-monarchist by the way) decided not to re-enact something that was supposedly known to be true is because this is NOT a historical documentary or listed as such and people really need to stop treating this series like it is. It is a drama series produced by an anti-monarchist therefore take what you see with more than a pinch of salt if you will as it will be slanted by someone that doesn't believe there should be a monarchy to begin with. There are many things included in this drama series that never happened that were added for "drama" such as the young woman that worked for Winston Churchill and was hit by the bus during the Great Smog that led him to take action. That made for a great TV moment and while the Great Smog absolutely happened and thousands were absolutely killed because of it, THAT woman never existed. It was all for drama. Although the major historical events and dates depicted are accurate, not all characters existed in real life and were included for dramatization. At most this series has prompted me to conduct research to learn more about certain historical events, line of succession , royal protocols, and learn the differences between titles, etc. However, anyone that watches this series as if it is in the same category of a PBS Documentary or National Geographic piece or any other reputable source really lacks discernment and likely believes everything they see and hear on TV and internet without question or hesitation and in this day and age of misinformation, that is beyond scary (it is exactly why we have a divided country now as people do more research on their next phone, laptop or vehicle purchase than they do on who they vote for which actually impacts their life, but I digress). SMH
That guy is worried that Netflix will ruin Charles reputation? Really? Oh honey, he doesn't need Netflix for that! Actually, Netflix did him a favor by making him look A LOT less disgusting and ugly.
"Do you think [the show] went too far this time [depicting Charles]?" No. No, I don't think they went far enough. He could never "sacrifice" what he wanted for the line of duty of the monachy, and the show was right to show him as a whiny, entiltled, prat, crying while holding a silver spoon in his mouth.
I actually think the show was quite favorable overall to Charles, to the point I wouldn’t be surprised if he had some input. That being said there are plenty of real things to cover with Charles/Camilla/Diana that make good TV and are accurate. Why make stuff up?
Sure I like Elizabeth delbicki since The Great Gatsby but I’m honestly convinced with her portrayal of Diana. I watch a lot of clips of the real Diana and I have no idea how people think Kirsten Stewart did a good job
Me! I mean it was obvious fiction but still... I feel that was for the public so we understand that they are both humans and humans are messy and complicated. While his affair was obviously a bog part of their issues that scene showed it wasn't the only issue. It had a ghosts of girlfriends past vibe that I felt was appropriate and I was 100 percent there for it (and loved it!).
How does Jonathan Pryce look or sound like anybody but Jonathan Price?! Did he do anything to try to portray Prince Philip? The other Philip actors were better.
I never forgot about tampon gate. Eww, all that BS poor Di had to go through for at the end ‘the Rottweiler’ ended up being queen consort. Shameful to had used such a Young vulnerable person like Di.
And yet she had the choice. Marry him and lose your royal status, or not marry him and keep your royal status. And she chose to not marry him and keep her royal status.
Wow, very impressed with Andrew Morton, he looks exactly the same! And I didn't know Timothy Dalton was in the Crown, that's pretty cool, he still looks very handsome :) Also, this Camilla is good! I thought Emerald Fennel was a good actress, but too curvy to play Camilla
one thing the sound department gets wrong in every episode: the car stops with a "squeek" No Rolls Royce owner would condone this let alone a queen....or a duke or any chauffeur on the payroll!
Charles and Camilla love and inability to stay away from one another doesn't bother me and I am sure there is a lot noone knows or understands about their relationship. I just think the way Diana was used and treated is what makes it so maddening for people. You can't help your feelings but you can help bringing people in to it that don't deserve to be hurt. Too many people back the institution no matter who they harm. Shocking because Diana was so beloved. You would think people would wise up to what really goes on there
Diana was chosen to marry Charles because the royals wanted a young woman to bear his children so that the royal line could continue. After she had given birth to the two boys, she was considered unnecessary so they discarded her. And the queen mother let Charlie and CowMilla use her country house to continue their affair while he was still married to Diana.
The crown is entertainment its not a documentary. I don't think it needs a disclaimer. I live in the UK and was a child in the 90s so know what happened. I loved the first few series and in my opinion clare foy is the best actress to play the Queen
Khalid Abdalla was an amazing actor. So human. So real. Handsomer than the actual Dodi, Abdalla probably portrayed him as a more charming, more sincere man than the real one. The imagined conversation between Diana and Dodi was sweet but probably never happened … we’ll never know.
They made Prince Charles a charming guy with a big smile...... That`s a freakin load of fiction!...... The worst Twist they made. Last season`s charles was PERFECT!.... this season Diana was PERFECT.
The friendship (companionship) between the late Prince Philip and Penny Knatchbull is featured in season 5 of "The Crown" exactly as it should be. Nothing implies that there was more, or that they even had an affair. So, you are wrong in saying it's depicted wrongly. It is very well done and extremely close to the truth. Ergo, they got it right!
This season went so easy on Charles I think the writer must want a peerage He's modern, sympathetic, charitable, charming, reasonable. Yes, they show his ego and pettiness and solipsism but it's excessively tempered to the point he seems like the hero of his family?. I love Dominic West as an actor and think he does a good job with the writing, but come on, the guy is Posh and is literally in Chuck's (extended) social circle. His wife designed gardens for/with the now-King and has a fabulous castle in Ireland that needs upkeep. I'm not saying he soft-pedaled his performance exactly but he's.....sly, or something. Last season's Charles and Diana were much better. I see nominations for West and Debicki (who was fabulous) but I don't see double wins like last time. Overall S5 was pretty anti-climactic.
strange perception.... trust me, they're enjoying their lives more than YOU are... and yes, it is glamourous.... you wouldn't know and it should be noted... THIS SHOW IS MOSTLY DRAMATIZED AND FICTIONAL.... it does depict things as they actually were or happened....
I get so irritated when people say there needs to be a disclaimer at the beginning of the show. The vast majority of us know perfectly well that this is a dramatization. Seriously, we are all not that stupid.
I agree. The same with all older Disney movies stating that some scenes might be a tad racist or should be seen in the 'context of the age it was released it'. Most of us have common sense that watching the Aristocats (for example), and hearing a Siamese cat go 'Shanghai, Hong Kong, Fortune cookie always wrong while holding chop sticks' might be a tad overboard lol
I get your point and I feel the same, however I've also see a lot of people in Twitter saying that the Crown was a documentary. So for that amount of idiots who are really loud sometimes I think the disclaimer is needed.
If we always make fiction accomodating the needs of the stupid, then there will be no good fiction for the rest of us. Remember the idiots that think Lolita is pro-pedophilia.
I enjoyed this video this channel is always fun and informative but to be fair the show creator warned everyone would be fiction mixed with reality and I understand why. As a series, it's important to have some type of fiction to keep people entertained and interested or would just be a fun documentary. And what I don't understand is the late Prince Philip's comment as seems they were just friends and the show doesn't insinuate they had an affair. But I guess it's up to people's interpretation.
I don't care if it's a fact or not but it's clear to me after seeing that scene with Diana in her car losing her brake, that someone or some "institution" wants to harm her. And it's even devastating to think that she indeed met her demise in a car accident later. This season only made me realize how she doesn't deserve everything that she's been through. Goodness how could they even do that to someone who have shown so much compassion and kindness to the world. Princess Diana deserves so much better when she's alive.
@@Tully_23_32 I never said she was. No human being are perfect, all of us are bound to make errors, but what matters is that Diana uses her short time to show kindness towards others at the very least despite everything. She could've accomplished so much more if she hasn't gone too soon.

@@DoomFinger511 She was young, she was pretty, she was kind and she was compassionate. The other royals did charities yes but to people they see it as the monarchy's duties and responsibilities or even jobs, whereas Princess Diana have managed to do both, as a princess she took the role, but as a product of a lonely household herself, she didn't just take it as her job, she saw what less fortunate people needed, she connected to them, the way the other members of the royal family has failed to do so, that's why she was The People's Princess. She has touched so many people's lives and even after her divorce with Charles, she continues supporting her projects and advocacies and she remains to be a symbol of hope. It's just sad that her time was cut short all because she got stuck in a complicated system of a monarchy and no one tried to help her get fully out of it.
The show seems very sympathetic to Charles. He was a cheater from the beginning of his marriage through to the end. Although he did good things to develop youth, for me it’s overshadowed by his lack of honor.
A scene that got to me was when Diana was going out to eat with Mohammed after the ballet. The moment where she's riding in the car with motorcycles around them. I felt the foreshadowing for next season. 😢
I've watched ALL of the Crown. I don't doubt or believe all of it. One thing- when Diana was all alone suffering- where was her parents and siblings?
But, mindful of the Church's teaching that Christian marriage is indissoluble, and conscious of my duty to the Commonwealth, I have resolved to put these considerations before any others."
While Townsend had divorced his wife in 1952, the Church of England's then-strict rules about remarriage after divorce forced Margaret's hand.

Actually, the part about Charles and Diana sharing a meal after the divorce isn't that far from the truth. Apparently, Charles dropped by to see Diana from time to time and still sent her flowers on her birthday. Sometimes, people get along better when they're NOT married.
Didn't Diana still live in the palace after they divorced

That was cute.
you wouldn't know.... you're just some fan watching tv.... you weren't there
You're wrong there.
@@dttra566 Lol William the "real" king? Pretty sure Charles is king right now 😂
Charles and Diana may not have share this exact scene together, but they did cry together on a couch the day their divorce was finalized and Charles even went to Kensington Gardens to have tea with her, they also laughed and reflected on their marriage.
I love Darren, he's funny
Good terms?! He had her murdered!
I dont think the show said it was an affair. The show got the Phillip story correct. He said "intellectual companionship" and made clear it was platonic.
The show definitely painted their closeness as an affair.
I agree it never seemed as a full blown affair on the show like Charles and Camilla

The "Revenge Dress" was my favorite, no doubt!
Never looked at Phillips friendship as an "Affair". Kind of messed up to call it one. We as humans have all kinds of friendships. There was nothing romantic about theirs!
I watched the entire season and nowhere did I see any indication of an affair between Philip and Penny. Seemed more like a father-daughter dynamic in the show 🤔
Note to self, don’t leave your kids with the English. 👀👀

Susan what show were u watching. She was the best Diana ever.
@@DG-mv6zw Agreed. She didn't capture any of Diana's personality
The Charles character does not quite say his mother should abdicate, but suggests he be given a bigger role.
That's my take away as well.
Companionship and an affair are two very different things.
The Crown didn't depict Prince Phillip having an affair, he specified it was a companionship and not an affair in the show - in real life she was one of thirty people at his funeral, they were very close friends
Is it just me or did anyone else Google everytym they watched the characters in crown and match it to the real Kings and Queens and Princess and prince's 😅🤦♀️ lmao and how they all matched up so well they gt all the characters really well matched... also was googling Peter townsend and Princess margot at seson 1 and 2 ...googling in advance to see if they got married...in real life ..lmao before I cud get to next episode I was just so excited to know if they got married 🤧

you do realize it's a fictional tv series... most of it is dramatized, that it didn't really happen the way it's being depicted.
Ms Mojo: "The affair, false. Phillip and Penny were close, but only platonically."
The crown: " We are only friends platonically"

The Crown showed Philip's verbal explanation of the relationship. That's it. Visually, they leaned heavily into the notion that it was a romance. You couldn't see that??

@@epona9166 It didn’t show romantic leanings at all. Where did you see that? It showed exactly what Phillip suggested - a platonic companionship.
The scene between Queen Elizabeth and The Queen Mother was AMAZINGLY. So tense
The problem is that Charles is not charming. And Diana was never childish and whining.
@@SymphonyBrahms When you hung out with them in private they never acted that way?
FINALLY! A sensible and constructive outlook of the series and the monarchy. Thank you
Couldn’t agree more , , but sadly seems to be many out there who do need their heads read 🤯🤦♀️

Yes! Jonathan Price looks like the way Prince Philip looked right before he died. how are they going to age him further?!
I agree… I am aghast at these actors playing Elizabeth and Philip. Actually I can’t understand why they didn’t just age the original actors.
One thing Mojo got wrong here is stating that the show implied Prince Philip and Penny having an affair, when clearly - even in the scene portrayed in this video - Prince Philip stated it was purely platonic.

I knew there s no way they were both eating eggs after a horrible divorce. I said wrong when watching that scene.

At the time, there was a PSA campaign in Britain to wear condoms to prevent the spread of AIDS. Its message was "you can't die of embarrassment." Tampongate and Prince Charles proved that you can come pretty God-damned close.

The Crown barely hints at Martin Bashir lying. It should have been much clearer. In the next episode Diana said that she lost employees. That is wrong. She fired them cause she didn't trust them anymore cause Bashir lied and said they spied on her.

For being hounded by the press for months, it's actually the most historically authentic. The season however is highly divisive in its structure.

SMH

It's a well known fact Phillip had affairs mainly with actresses that's why he didn't want Harry to marry Megan. Also he was a racist.
"Do you think [the show] went too far this time [depicting Charles]?"
No.

If you’re going to act as authority, the least you can do is pronounce Romanov correctly!
12:15 That got me laughing out loud 🤣🤣😂
Marmaduke Hussy .... what a name 🤣
Cowgilla Gate !!!! Fred & Gladys 😂🤣 ... Chuck should abdicate 🇬🇧🎊🇬🇧🎊🇬🇧💯🇬🇧
Watching this movie made me realize they are all trapped in their own prison. It’s not all glamour and riches. 😢
strange perception.... trust me, they're enjoying their lives more than YOU are... and yes, it is glamourous.... you wouldn't know
and it should be noted...
@@treatpeoplewithkindness2955 I sadly have to agree. It's oddly frightening knowing this has to be done which to me seems like common sense.
If we always make fiction accomodating the needs of the stupid, then there will be no good fiction for the rest of us. Remember the idiots that think Lolita is pro-pedophilia.
I am most proud of the Tampax incident.
I shock when queen Elizabeth the second passed away
I enjoyed this video this channel is always fun and informative but to be fair the show creator warned everyone would be fiction mixed with reality and I understand why. As a series, it's important to have some type of fiction to keep people entertained and interested or would just be a fun documentary. And what I don't understand is the late Prince Philip's comment as seems they were just friends and the show doesn't insinuate they had an affair. But I guess it's up to people's interpretation.
The Crown is not a documentary, it is entertainment. So what if there is a bit of artistic license.
Ummee...suppose so...
Diana was no angel
@@Tully_23_32 I never said she was. No human being are perfect, all of us are bound to make errors, but what matters is that Diana uses her short time to show kindness towards others at the very least despite everything. She could've accomplished so much more if she hasn't gone too soon.
@@Tully_23_32 Yeah, so it means that she deserved to die tragically ?
@@Soul-up8ru Diana was great PR to help Prince Charles look good by association _(until their separation)_. The media focused on her because she was young and pretty. When others in the royal family did the same types of charity no one cared.
I have platonic male friends. Maybe because I have so many brothers, but I do, there’s nothing wrong with that. A friend is a friend.
The show seems very sympathetic to Charles. He was a cheater from the beginning of his marriage through to the end. Although he did good things to develop youth, for me it’s overshadowed by his lack of honor.
I loved this show . Hope they continue it
I cannot believe that break dance part is indeed true, oh wow
A scene that got to me was when Diana was going out to eat with Mohammed after the ballet. The moment where she's riding in the car with motorcycles around them. I felt the foreshadowing for next season. 😢
Think they did that intentionally, setting the mood.
I've watched ALL of the Crown. I don't doubt or believe all of it. One thing- when Diana was all alone suffering- where was her parents and siblings? Someone explain to me why the Crown presented her life as if the royals cut her off from any support? Where was her parents if she was that I'll and miserable?
