    Never get bored of Montmarte! Planning to go next week while in Paris. If you are a cat lover, go to Montmartre Cemetery! The cemetery is great to visit on it's own but the cats are the main attraction for me!! Just don't pet them if you plan on keeping your fingers!!

      Ok. Now I want to go to there cos of the kitties! I want to try to fit in Pere Lachaise though. ( sp??) But it's not in my 2 areas I am trying to cover in 2 days. I did see some cats at Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires. But one was starving and begging me for food. And following me. I had nothing to give her but water. : (

    One of my fondest memories is on the last day before leaving for London, my mum and I woke up relatively early to walk to Sacré-Cœur, just the two of us. The city was quiet and the streets were empty as if we were the only two… 🤔😌
    I highly recommend going early in the morning when there are no crowds and leaving before or around 10 AM, as that's when people start showing up!

    Is there a little tourist train that can take you UP or a funicular to Sacre Coer and then WALK down? I'm going in summer and besides not having the greatest knees..the heat! I plan on going very early in morning to get as much done as possible before noon or 1pm. Head back to hotel or airbnb air-conditioning and resting. Then maybe back in late afternoon and evening. But might do something else in evening instead. Is 4 or 5 hrs enough in montmartre including Sacre Cour inside and out and lunch? I like wandering and I like quaint shops.

    Hi Jay, I hope you can help with some current info. I just came across your channel and subscribed and have been watching lots of great content on locations. Question, since this is a recent post...our daughter who is in Rome for her first study abroad, is meeting a friend who is relocating to live in Paris, and is 18, both from the US and don't know the areas. First time for my daughter to Paris in a few days, and her friend who is still waiting for her Visa (yikes) and has been only once to Paris, have a side trip for 5 days planned to Marseille. I have a friend who has been a few times and she said they should go elsewhere, that it is not safe, a google search confirms that, I was really hoping you could let me know as two English only speaking young girls who want to navigate it, should I try to get them to try a different location? There are so many great places and even though they have a flight to there what other places are there close by they could maybe do the rest of their time after spending a day in Marseille? Thank you for any help!

    Are the metro stations accessible for seniors or just steps? Escalators or elevators to ground level?

    • @NearlyFullyFree
      @NearlyFullyFree 13 днів тому

      There is largish lifts if you need them I think in some, if not all the Metros, especially useful if you carry luggage etc.
      The steps are hard work unless you are fairly fit.
      The Montmartre has the deepest access to the Metro as it is the highest area of Paris. The Abbesses station.
      I used the lift there couple times only, when coming back after a days outing, as the walking up the numerous steps felt like climbing a mountain late in the day although I am a fairly agile 60 yr old

    • @chrischreative2245
      @chrischreative2245 13 днів тому +1

      @NearlyFullyFree Thanks, my mom is 77 but she made it through the Amsterdam and Paris parts like a champ. I tried to look for ramps and other things to get us where we needed to be. There were some elevators but it’s tough on seniors with older cities. We made it thru.

    • @NearlyFullyFree
      @NearlyFullyFree 13 днів тому

      @@chrischreative2245 Glad your mum managed it all. Pity my reply was too late, but only found this channel today. Any city is tiring to get around, especially when most of us try to do as much as possible per day. I loved Paris and my hotel was at Montmartre region, which was perfect for me. Metro station just down the street was so handy to travel around Paris and plenty of walking then around the sites.

    • @chrischreative2245

      @NearlyFullyFree We didn’t get to Montmarte maybe next time. Lucky you.

    • @NearlyFullyFree
      @NearlyFullyFree 13 днів тому

      @@chrischreative2245 Yes, we were so lucky to have opted for that region of Paris (although we probably would have enjoyed ourselves if based at other parts). My other half had known it was an okay area, but she really hadn’t realised how good it was and now agrees with me that if we go back it will be same area. So many streets unexplored.
      Our French taxi drivers did tell us on arriving and when leaving that we had chosen the best area in Paris to stay.
      Hope you get another trip to Paris and in good health to explore there. All the best! 👍🇬🇧

    Hi Jay. I really enjoy your new videos on Paris and those special places to see. I'm reading a novel by the French novelist Emile Zola about the shrine at Lourdes and the people that went there for cures. It's very interesting. You may want to visit it sometime. It would be interesting to see if things are the same as they were when he visited as compared to modern times. Her wrote rather realistic novels about the society he lived in. He wasn't afraid to make criticisms. His famous novel was NANA about a prostitute that was considered scandalous at the time, He wrote another novel about deparetments stores I'd like to read because I used to work for one.
