The HUGE advantage of FRIO packs is you only need room temperature water to keep it activated and cooling your insulin! You do NOT need access to a freezer, and as she said, ice packs have the danger of being too cold at first, then if you don’t have a freezer handy, or the hours to re-freeze…. I’ve traveled for weeks at a time with my new insulin pens in several FRIO packs in my carry on bag.
I am thinking the Frio Crystals are the water storing crystals you can get for plants. I use them to make cooling neck ties because we live in Las Vegas. I am not an insulin user but I do have an injection medication that needs to be refrigerated and traveling with it has always been an issue.

Do you think the flower pattern pouch is worth the premium pricing? Just making the debate. Maybe this is a silly question (nubby here), this would be helpful for hurricanes? Would you recommend getting a separate fridge to store your insulin?
You only pay the premium for the pattern. If you don’t care about that, just get the plain pouch. Yes, I do believe this would be helpful for situations where you’re without electricity for an extended time period. I would keep the fridge close as much as possible and leave it in there as long as it’s still reasonably cold. I just have my insulin in my regular fridge. I’ve seen others who have a separate mini-fridge, but I don’t think it’s needed unless you don’t have room in your regular fridge. Hope that helped
And you shouldn't. Once in use, it's recommended that we keep the open vial/pen at room temperature. These ideas are for when traveling through hot climates or if you need to transport more than just the insulin pen/vial you have in use.
I leave a box out ( 5 vials) at a time as long the temps are below 90f in the room that it is stored. We used to fly alot but since we retired, we are in an rv about 5 months a year. Insulin is tuff stuff :) As a note, you *cannot* get a lantus pen in the USA. Only fully charged disposables are available. Another odd note, in the USA insulin is a perscription drug while in Canada it not. I enjoy your vids..thanks..
Thanks for the idea. After packing the pens into a Frio pouch, do you usually then pack them into your checkin or carryon baggage if flying somewhere? How many times can one reuse the same Frio pouch?
Always in your carry-on or your hand luggage, never put insulin in your checked bag. You risk it going bad as temperatures can fluctuate where they keep the luggage. My Frio has lasted me years

If it doesn't lower your blood sugar it obviously won't be any good holding on to it. Try reaching out to your doctor and see if they can give you a free sample. Alternatively, you can try and ask your pharmacist if they can do an override and get you the insulin earlier.
If you leave this in water for 20 minutes, will it make it even colder and last longer than if it wasn’t for 10 minutes. The reason I’m asking is I’m going on a cruise for eight days and I have an injection pen it’s a once a week injection, and I need it tostay cold for five days basically a Saturday to a Wednesday night that it Hass to be cold as if it was an refrigerator. Well this goal. How do you know if it’s time to re-emerge it to make a cold again?
This does not get refrigerator cold. You can resubmerge it in water but it will "only" keep your injection pen below 25°C (77-79°F). Hi, thank you for your video very informative just wanted to have better understanding I'm from Republic of Ireland and planing to go on holidays to Dominican Republic which has very high temperatures in month August. I'm on insulin pump and my question is should I get one of these pouches for the pump and have the pump inside the pouch during the day when on the beach/ walking around the place? What would you recommend? Or should I be ok during the hot day's just having my pump in my shorts in the pocket would the insulin be okay all day long or do you think it can go bad? That sounds lovely! If you use a teetered pump you might want to consider some sort of sun cover. I pulled this from Medtronic’s website: “Caring for your insulin pump & CGM during the summer: Use a protective pouch to keep your devices secure and out of direct sunlight. Avoid exposing your pump to temperatures above 104°F (40°C) or below 41°F (5°C) as this may damage your device.”
Hello! I Really need to get 1 of these. When you where in India i am guessing temperature there is 30+ degrees. Did you tried your frio? You mentioned it can last 45hrs. How many hours do you think frio could last in 30+ degrees? Or is it smarter to use Thermo instead?
Frio can be reused, most of mine I've used for years. It's not ice packs though, the keep insulin at the right temperature but doesn't cool down to freezing

One question please: Does the unopened insulin stored in Frio degrade (meaning is it good to use till its original expiration date when received from the pharmacy)? e.g. once I take it out of Frio and put it in the fridge after a 30 hour flight, is it good use till its original expiration date?

You can “re-activate” them immediately, it only takes 10-15 min. Just submerge them in water (a steam will do). I only keep the backup insulin in my Frio, but you could do both

Any of the suggestions mentioned in the video would do. I would probably take them out of the boxes and use either Frio or thermos

It should be. As long as your insulin isn’t exposed to too high or too low temperatures it should last until at least the expiration date

I see that you are just using "cold water". Would there be any advantage/disadvantages to submerging it in ICE 🧊 WATTER?
There's no need as the pouch cools when the water evaporates. I don't know if ice water would damage it
