Cross Breeding Guppies: Neon Blue x Sunset Micariff Strains
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 жов 2024
- We're cross breeding guppy strains for fun. A male Neon Blue guppy is being mated to virgin female Sunset Micariff strain guppies. If all goes well, in about five months, we'll know what this cross looks like.
Your voice sounds really nice.
Nice Fishes too 😊👍
LOL. Take care.
Crossbreeding is always fun to see how the fry end up looking :) cant wait to see the fry
+xAdamLeex It was kind of fun doing this. Although this isn't my main reason for raising guppies, I'll admit, this is very interesting to me.
I am trying to cross breed a blonde delta guppy and red fancy guppies and you were inspirational for me to make videos about it
thanks for explaining this
Sweet
Hey, Kaimuki, have u ever thought about doing other types of guppy crosses other than Sunset M. x Neon B.? Like, for example, Tuxedo koi x Sunset M.? Or Tuxedo Koi x Neon B. ?
I've been toying with the idea of All-Yellow Micariff x Koi just to see what the fry would turn out like. If sort of nice, then backcross to Micariff, seeing if the red head trait can be imported into the Micariff line.
Sounds good! Imagine red headed neon blue delta tails, or koi guppy’s with blue and red delta tails, and the really long, beautiful dorsal fin featured on the neon blue. It would be fantastic
I like this video very much. so you are going to start breeding new strains. waiting to know what their babies look like. I kept my sunset guppy, neon blues, and other stunning guppy combined. their fries are awesome. their colour pattern is good to watch.....
Really enjoyed the video and I hope that you might update along the way rather than waiting the full 5 months. When you develop a stain of guppies, how many generation in do you have to be for them to "breed true"? Or do you have to bring in fresh bloodlines in occasionally? Thanks for a great video.
+Thom Lindgren I was probably going to do updates along the way, or when some aspect of this "experiment" yields something noteworthy. I've never developed a new strain of guppies, therefore I don't know how many generations would be needed. I've been working with my Sunset Micariff bloodline since 2009, taking it through 3 generations a year. I've not brought in outside genes yet. Good questions.
Really excited to see where this cross goes!
+Scott Adams Thanks. It should be interesting.
Amazing and very informative videos, thanks for sharing and keep posting. :) Can't wait to see the fry.
+Norbert Simek Thank you very much for kind compliment. I also am wanting to see what the crosses look like when grown. We'll see!
hey if you don't mind me asking when summer over do you move the guppies indoors or keep them out side. I'm looking on moving and starting up all my guppies breeders outside so i can free up 45 tanks for other fish but I'm worried about the cold weather never kept fish outside other then goldfish all been setup in my fish room
+Alphabet Where I live, the Winters will get into the mid 60's °F. Even though this is mild compared to a lot of places, it is a little too cold for guppies to be at their best-- BUT, it doesn't kill them. Therefore, out of simplicity, I leave them outdoors. They grow slower, and gestation periods are longer, but they don't die. And when the weather warms up, like it is now, they perk up. If you live anywhere where the Fall and Winters are routinely colder than 70 °F, I would recommend bringing guppies indoors and using heated aquariums.
If a neon blue guppy -female and a male sunset micariff guppy -male is bred, will the offspring may be same as this breeding's offspring?
I don't know because I have not made that reciprocal cross. But I believe it would not be exactly the same because in guppies, quite a few color genes are sexed-linked. That is to say, they exist on either the X or Y sex chromosomes.
Amazing!! Can't wait to S we what the fry look like!
+Axil Gaming Me too. Although this isn't my main reason for raising guppies, I'll admit, this is very interesting to me.
Both the strains are beautiful .hope you get quality guppies out of them
+abdulsaboor raza I hope so too. Although this isn't my main reason for raising guppies, I'll admit, this is very interesting to me.
Cool type of fish, looks like your doing good
:-)
Thanks
Awesome video. Does your friend like to breed guppies too? Does he do other strains as well? I thought I saw a red one in the tub with the Neon blue...
+LFCooledWhip This is the same friend's house that I used for the past video on Guppy Tubs. He and his wife do just Neon Blues. The reason why you saw a red one is that his particular line of Neon Blues has a recessive red form too. It's a straight Mendelian autosomal recessive type of inheritance. Basically all Neon Blues are red fish underneath. The blue form is simply those fish with a whole lot of iridescence on top of the basically red background color. The recessive form lack the whole lot of iridescence, thus, show their red background color. Very good question.
Just bought a 15gal aquarium today. I'm planning to keep Fry(s) there, how many guppy fry(s) can I put there?
you can place many, say 50 or so, BUT as they grow, you need to successively split the brood into other tanks. In the end, you should allocate 1 gallon per adult guppy.
Very interesting, looking forward to see the update video
+Dendrochirus zebra I hope all goes well, so I can post a video in about 5 months.
have a cuestión what happend if i cros a male big ear gupy mosaic, with a female guppy ribbon?
nice videos.
I don't know. I've never researched what mode of inheritance these traits are passed on.
question!
if you put a male and female guppy together is there a 100% success that they will breed?
the female is a virgin, not sure of the male.
I don't want to be so absolute, and say 100%, but it's really quite high.
i heard that you've also crossed two strains before. How did they turn out tho?
+To Kill a Chatot I once crossed Japan Blues with Moscow Metallic Blues. I can't remember which was the male and female. But I remember the F1 generation. They had the color of the Japan Blues. The middle rays of the caudal fin was short like the Japan Blues, while the top and bottom rays of the caudal was long like the Delta Tail of the Moscow Metallic Blues. So it was almost like a lyretail. I gave all of them away to a family friend of mine, and they kept the whole batch in their living room aquarium. This was in the late 90's.
i have 6 guppies but 3 of both genders, is that still good if im trying to breed them along with a rainbow fish in the tank with them?
yes
nice female guppies... 👍👍
:-)
Wow im looking forward for the update of this cross!
+ianmarkshadow Ok, thanks!
how can I determine the size of guppy pair.I had seen your all video in those videos the male is small than the female
Until about 3 months, both the males' and females' bodies (not counting the tail fin) will be about the same. The males' bodies stop growing. The females' bodies keep on growing. Not counting the tail fin, the males' body will be about an inch or slightly larger. The females bodies' will eventually become 2 inches.
they are gonna look so cool
+Blazing Bettas I hope so. At least nice enough to sell these to a pet store. We'll have to be sure to indicate to the store owners that they're not pure strain, so won't be true breeding. We'll see how this goes.
Very nice guppy's,
+123 4567 Thanks!
hey pls help me. my guppy just born its fry and what should i do? should i remove the male or female?
do they eat their babies? by the way i did'nt put them in a breeding box i put them in a aquarium so my guppys can swim around.
Remove both.
Yes, they'll eat their babies if convenient to do so.
but i dont have any extra aquarium
Sorry, I cannot help you with this one.
so kamiuki when the rain is falling do you put some on top of it
No. I use holes. See video called "Rainproofing..." I posted it awhile back on this channel.
after how many months a female guppy can be pregnant again after giving fry
See my past video called: Is My Female Guppy Pregnant for all these details and more.
so..i need put them together in a same tank less than 1 week?..then let them go??
up to you. you can leave together, or separate after a week.
Gosh I love your videos, it would be great if your videos would be a bit longer☺️
+Joy Aquarium Thanks. I always feared that if they were any longer, that people wouldn't watch them to the end. And if viewers don't watch to the end, search engines like Google, Yahoo, etc. don't give these pieces as high a search index- meaning they'll be harder to find. I have no other social media connected to this UA-cam channel, so I depend a lot on viewers watching these videos to the end. I hope this explains.
+Kaimuki Backyard oh that's true, well even if your videos would be like 5 minutes long I would still watch to the end, hope to see more videos of yours👍🏼
can guppies become cannibals after 15 days? I have one adolescent male guppy missing from my tank and is nowhere to be found
they'll pick and flesh off of dead tankmates
after giving birth..i can separate their mother n father to another tank right?
yes
Love these vids.. Keep us updated
+Jack Grunnel Okay, will do!
If your female sunset micariff give birth 2nd time is it f1 generation or f2??
Still F1. If those F1 babies grow up, and are mated with each other, then those resulting fry are the F2 generation. I've posted videos on this happening.
Kaimuki Backyard ok thanks
can't wait for the follow up video
+Collin Klinget There's actually two more videos after this one. One shows the newborn cross bred fry. The next shows the cross bred fry at one month old. Check the videos out when you have some free time.
+Kaimuki Backyard yep watched all of your videos and subbed
Hey im very interested in trying this method you are doing i like how natural it is however i have a few questions, what size do you recommend for the plant pot/tub? i was planning to get two 20gallon tubs for keeping young males and females separated also do you do water changes? if so do you put some water conditioner in it?
+Gnar Lol Mine range from 20 to 50 gallons- I recommend these sizes for guppies. Yes, I do water changes. I have a video on cleaning water gardens or tubs, posted on this same channel. I don't use water conditioner. Thanks.
So its just water straight from the hose? what waters do you recommend? water lilies? and how often do you change the water?
Gnar Lol Where I live, yes, water is straight out of the tap. The plants you raise will depend on your location, i.e. my tropical water lilies would not survive in any temperate region. I change water at least once every two weeks.
I live in florida, and doesnt tap water(straigh out of the hose) have chlorine?
+Gnar Lol My guess is that your municipal water supply does contain chlorine. If you can smell it, the level is too high for fish. You'll need to age your water, to allow the chlorine to dissipate, or use water treatment chemicals from the pet store. Other places don't chlorinate, but they may fluorinate (for dental health reasons). Fluorine is also bad for fish.
This is the very topic I am interested in nowadays. Thank you for bringing up such an issue. I have ten male and 10 female bşg ear guppies. I am breeding them. But, I would like to cross-breed the big ear male guppies with pure color female guppies such as full red and full black. Is it possible to have big ear guppies from those crosses?
+Kerim ünal By "big ear" guppies, are you referring to those strains with the exaggeratedly huge pectoral fins? If so, not knowing anything about this, I would do a test cross to see if this trait is due to a single autosomal dominant gene mode of inheritance. If it is (just my hunch), then it will be far easier to establish the big ear trait into the hybrid line than to fix the color you desire. As some color and pattern genes are carried on the males X chromosomes only, If space is a limiting factor, I would prioritize making the reprical crosses (males of you desired colors X female big ears). I'm guessing that at this point you probably have not yet had fry to raise virgin females, so maybe this should be your first step- but it adds 4 months to your process.
+Kerim ünal And what color are your big ears? Hopefully something close to the guppies of your other colors.
i have got an question . how to treat fishlice also know as argulis scientifically.... they are in my tank .
and its hard to remove them with tweezers or hands from fish +kaimukibackyard
I've never had fish lice. Sorry, I've no experience with this one.
okay ...no worries ..thank you tho
hello @kaimukibackyard
Does guppies live without heater if i put them in a tubs like that outside the house? thank you for reading my question
Depends on your temperature. I have a video called "Temperature for Guppies" on this channel.
Are they live in that pond while winter?
Yes, but Winters here in Hawaii are still warm enough to keep guppies alive. They're not at their best, but they don't die. And when the weather warms up again, they are good again.
how many week before your guppy will be pregnant? thank you for reading my comments😊
they're pregnant as soon as they mate. fry are born approximately 23 to 40 days later, average being 30 days.
thanks 😊
i thought guppies don't breed in cold water?
They don't breed in cold water, but it's not cold here.
Oh okay
My guppy breed and I got 17 frys thanks for your video 😂 😂 😍🙏😻
You're welcome
I know this sounds weird but can put guppies with severums?
I don't know how aggressive severums would be towards guppies. I've never had severums.
Kaimuki Backyard and are guppies schooling fish?
Somewhat. If you see some other of my guppy videos, you'll definitely see some semi-schooling behavior.
Amazing to see..!!!
But where did you get that guppy keeping tubs???
+Mano Hari Tubs come from agricultural supply stores or online. Brand is Tuff Stuff.
Excuse me, can do a video of cross-breeding sunset micariff female guppies and a male yellow tuxedo guppy
Sorry, but I don't have any yellow tuxedo guppies. I also don't have time for a new crossbreeding project at the moment.
You sound like arnold Schwarzenegger lol haha
You pump me up, with your comment.
You have gold body females and a gray body male, what's the body color of the fry ?
+gerard cousineau As expected-- all grey bodied. I took some video footage today, and will need time to edit and post it. I'll probably wait until the second female drops here brood too.
Yes if the male doesn't carry the gold gene in him theoretically they should be all gray ! But freak things happen sometimes ! :D
He is Gona tear that sunset ass up!!! So proud;(
Speaking of that male, he was a super nice blue, too bad the sun was going down that day I took this video, and didn't do his colors justice.
Sweet! You should also try female neon blues and a male sunset micariff and see if the fry turn out to be the same/similar.
+Bradford Aquatics (Riley Bradford) This would be much harder, because my friend with the Neon Blues doesn't always have virgin Neon Blue females. I would think the reciprocal cross would not be identical. With guppies, a lot of genes are carried on the male's Y-chromosome.
Do you know of a reliable source of blue guppies that you could share?
For me to provide you a better answer, are you located in WA State?
@@kaimukibackyard148
Yes!
I check with folks here if they're willing to ship.
Sir can this fish stay alive in grey water
you mean green water (algae)- yes. These tubs are not overcrowded with fish.
I thought that dog bark in the backround was my dog
:-)
what are your breeding methods?
Breeding methods are shown in several videos on this channel. After you view a few, if you still have specific questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them.
my platy given birth to 23 frys. i seperated her from the other female platy and male platy until she finished giving birth to them. i keep the frys to be by themselves to avoid them being eaten by their mama
great, if you give the platy fry a nice aquarium to themselves, with filter, they will grow the best
i have to get a filter for them. i learnt that the ammonium substance from left over fish food and their poop can make them sick if it is high levels of ammonium. my other female platy still looks pregnant. she had given birth to one fry a couple of weeks ago. i guess the rest wasnt ready yet to be born. her male companion is always by her side. he barely gives my new female platy any attention
hi sir.. why all my female guppy became agresive? the female chase the male. is that cause of temperature or water's ph? the male is same age with female.
+wadde faq Some females are that way. Generally, it's not due to water conditions- just the female herself.
+Kaimuki Backyard so what should i do? i want them breed..
wadde faq I recommend placing her in a tank with the male you want to breed her with. Place enough items such as plants for the male to hide in if the female should become too aggressive. They male will probably still mate with her. Do not place them in a plain tank, or small vessel such as a bucket or fishbowl. Otherwise, with no hiding spaces, the female will find and peck on the male to death.
+Kaimuki Backyard yes. my tank is indoor, with filter, and a liltle small dead coral at bottom.
i dont have co2.. every time i put live plant, the plant will die. i will put some fake plant.. as u said. is it ok?
yes, it's okay. I'd remove the coral-- it makes the water too hard for guppies.
how do you clean this tank?
I do partial water changes, about once or twice a week, using this technique: ua-cam.com/video/D-MwNzGMjU0/v-deo.html
so what happened to backcross
the backcross fry are 3 weeks old. I'll do a video at one month old.
why my male guppy won't breed but he 3 months old only
Sorry, I don't know
Check your water.
Increase heat slightly.
Increase feeding slightly.
Float some plants by pulling them out of the weighted base to give them a place to feel safe at the surface.
what kind of food do you use?
TetraMin regular flakes. That's it.
It takes more than 31 days for the first brood ! After that it can be as short as 17 days between broods !
+gerard cousineau Not always. It's largely temperature dependent. Although I posted this video last night, this video's footage was taken on 2/15/2016. Today is 3/13/2016, and the first of two females gave birth, 27 days later. I'll be posting another video on this. The longest gestation periods I've encountered was 35 days. The shortest 23 days.
If it took only 27 days from fertilization to giving birth it means that they were at very high temperature ! Between broods I had at least one female who gave birth 17 days after delivering babies ! You have to realize that is because you have different stage of gestation in a female guppy ! I expect you to live in a warm country it will explain a lot of things ! It will be interesting to see the F1 !
Very cool!
+Josh's Aquatics & Railroad Videos Thanks much!
That neon blue isn't pure, its set of fins closest to its head (not sure what the technical term for it is) are yellow-orangish. These so-called neon blue x sunset micariffs have a third obscure but still very much there component.
I'm not going debate the "purity" with you. I can tell anyone else that's reading this post that the Neon Blue is from a true breeding line, and it's "pectoral fins" being yellow, or marked, is normal for that strain. It's actually desirable for that strain.
Oh ok, I didn't know.
where did he got that neon blue delta tail guppy?
From me. I used to raise Neon Blues before the Micariffs.
and where did you ordered them? they look amazing :)
The result may be great .
:-)
Can you please take video of breeding red guppy x sun set micariff guppy
Can betta fry live in just infusoria? Pls reply..i bought a female halfmoon today!
I don't know, I'm not a betta expert. Sorry.
miguel peneyra yes they can
Keep update, I wanna know what their babies look like ;)
+User0104134245 I hope to be able to post a video of the cross about five months from now. A lot will depend on how well my friends take care of these breeders and subsequent fry. Thanks.
Can you cross breed red guppy and sunset micariff guppy
Yes, you can
Kaimuki Backyard I asked can you make a video of breeding red guppy and sunset micariff guppy
What plant is ?
It's a water lily
How many times a day do you feed your fry?
+Chaotic Gaming Twice, morning and late afternoon.
Kaimuki Backyard Thats good! How are your neon blue x sunrise fry doing
+Chaotic Gaming Quite well I believe. First video of the crossbred fry is in final editing stage, to be released as soon as I can find the time to finalize it.
Kaimuki Backyard How long have they been born?
Chaotic Gaming Mating was Feb 15, Births were March 13 and March 16.
how many fry do the female give
birth to?
Depends on their size: 6 to over a hundred, say 120.
beautiful fish, gotta check out the sequel! liked and subscribed :)
Awesome. As you can see from the numerous cross-breeding follow-up videos, this simple cross between these two strains yielded many guppies in the generations that followed over the last year. It was a good seller too. :-)
Cross breeding is always fun, I am making a strain out of two different guppy varients
+FortWayne Fishtanks It was kind of fun doing this. Although this isn't my main reason for raising guppies, I'll admit, this is very interesting to me.
You remind me of Hawaii Hobbyist
ok
can I make a sunset micariff guppy with different tail colour instead of orange and yellow
+Rithwik Sree Sorry, but I don't know that answer to your question. Thanks.
so what were your early guppy strains in the late 90's?
+Rithwik Sree In the late 1990's, I was raising Moscow Blues.
Kaimuki Backyard which one you like more moscow blue or sunset
+Rithwik Sree I like Sunset Micariff, because both males and females have color. For Moscow Blues, while the male is blue, the female if mostly grey.
What is the result of this cros???
On my channel, posted after this video, is no less than 20 more videos specifically on the descendants from this original cross.
Kaimuki Backyard give me link of that vid.....
Use the endcards at the end of each video and it'll advance you to the next video.
Good
Where you from
Hassan Abbas he lives in Hawaii
5 months?
I don't understand your question.
+Kaimuki Backyard Where do you live?
+nik afif Hawaii
+Kaimuki Backyard thanks
how mach twoo gapies
I don't understand your question.
Is that your real voice?
Yes
Hahahahah
I have that shiny blue guppy:)
nice
What plant is that?
water lily...
Kaimuki Backyard that's beautiful! Is there a smaller strain?
I'm not certain if smaller strains exist or not.
Any fry yet?
Many fry. This video is the first in a series on Cross Breeding Guppies. I've posted several follow up videos to this one, the F1 generation as they grew up, the F2 generation, the Backcross generations, etc. If you've enjoyed this particular video, you'll enjoy the follow up videos (hopefully).
OK, I'll go look for them, thanks!
That doesn't look like a neon blue as it looks like a midnight blue
Okay
What happened... Did get wat you expected
I've documented the results from many generations resulting from this original cross like in the next 20 or so videos. It's still ongoing up to the current videos I've just uploaded within the last week. I've discussed how I didn't get the results I expected, but on other lines that resulted from this cross, I've gotten some alternate results that I'm still working with. It's ALL on my channel, if you have the time to watch.
Bro I have a made a pond but mosquitos lay eggs in that
My guppies eat the mosquito larvae very effectivily, therefore I do not find mosquito larvae in the tubs
wonder full
:-)
Any update sir
Yes, this the very first of about 20 videos I posted since then. this is the very start of my taking these two strains and creating my current true-brreding strain I call the Neon Micariff. It took about two years in total, several generations of backcrossings. I document the choices I had to make along the way!
must watch my guppy fry video. i am 100% sure you like the video.
You should think about either adding voice narration, or at least written captions to share with your audience why you are showing these video clips. The video footage is pretty good- in focus and steady.
now make the video of molly and guppy cross breed
Nah, not for me.
watch my lots of fry video
i also have a guppy like it
great, good luck to you
thanks
👍
Thanks
I am mixing my wild guppy with my snake skin male
Okay
hi sir gap 2 fish plz sir plz plz plz I'm banglades
Those ur friend have a channel
Sorry, nope.
Vids too short
I may add length to some videos as I've heard this from a few others. I mostly let the content drive the length. Thanks for expressing your opinion.
