Blood Orange Scones

- Three words: buttery, crumbly, citrusy. Those are the words that basically sum up these scones. They're quick to make, and they keep for a few days that way you can enjoy them in the morning with a nice cup of coffee. These are way better than any Starbucks scones that you'll ever have.

Watched a lot of scone recipes, and this, despite the age is still the best.
Loving your improvisation without proper tools. Such a dose of realism, and it's a hilarious contrast to your usual, more recent videos with so many awesome but admittedly specialized tools.
I agree, he uses the simplest ingredients and tools which is more realistic for the average person

I have so many oranges that I need to use, I'm thinking of doubling this recipe and maybe adding some craisins in it :). This will be perfect for my homemade brunch with housemates this weekend!
Recipe was delicious as always! For the butter technique I've always froze the butter then grate it over a cheese grater. This might be a no no but it works.

my grandmother -born 1899- (UK) all her baking life -til 80yrs old- used a clean milk bottle to roll her dough and an old teacup sans handle to cut out scones, biscuits (cookies) etc, even after I bought her cookie cutters and rolling pin! If she only had a small amount of scone dough she would cut the scones like you have here. She was only person I've seen doing that til your vid.
Underrated video
I think the wine bottle rolling pin trick is older than me.... Probably going back to when they first made wine bottles. You can put them in the freezer as well, to cool them off, but they don't hold the cold like the marble ones do.
I tried making this for a Lent breakfast . Hubby loved it. 😍
Of course the fact that I made him English food when he's an anglophile and a Whovian made him happy too.

The ONLY other scone recipe I've ever used calls for egg and yours doesn't. Did you experiment using egg in this recipe and liked it better without? Is it your preference? Just curious. I've made scones using your recipe and I REALLY love them!
Should you or can you make the dough the night before and use it the next day ?
Well I did mines today. I didn’t have blood orange so I used orange and didn’t have powdered sugar so I made a cream cheese, sugar and a splash of orange juice 👍🏼.
The scone came out bland. The cream cheese glacéd did help with the flavor

Kinda like a more crumbly, and sweet biscuit. Really good with butter and jam or a glaze on top.
