@@xwiirastusx Fair point! You're right that Latvia is well-known among Europeans. However, from our perspective as American travelers, we heard many times during our visit that it’s still quite rare to see tourists from the U.S. That's what made it feel like a 'hidden gem' to us, even if it’s not the case for everyone.
@@morristosee Full disclosure: I'm not Latvian, but I visit Riga quite often. I live and work in Tallinn, Estonia, right to the north, and our city is TEAMING with American tourists, I can't see a reason why they shouldn't visit Latvia. Face it - you are just trying to sell your stuff as "unique" and "unusual", perhaps even "original". I hate to break it to you but the market is already oversaturated. You are far too late to the party and your ignorance is not an excuse. I'm sorry if I took my frustration out on those who didn't deserve it.
Nice, that sounds like a fun team to be a part of! We can't see any other reasons either. Were having fun making videos regardless of the market. No worries 🙂 it's important to hear others out and we always appreciate the dialogue!
Hello guys, this video was just recommended to me, I like to watch people all over the world visiting country in which i was born to see their reaction. One thing i want to mention about early in video when you said your Tour guide's name is Artūrs, you dont really have to pronounce it like that you can just say Arthur and it will be just as fine. For example my name is Roberts and you can call me just Robert. Cheers!
How fun, thank you for sharing! We had such a fun visit and LOTS of yummy food 😋 He did say Arthur was fine but we try to learn local languages/pronunciations when we travel. That's half of the fun! Cheers!
Cats on the top of the roof of Cats house were turned to the Great Guild backwards just because the owner of the house was'nt accepted as a member of the Guild and that was the way he expressed his attitude. Oly after receiving a membership he turned cats in the current position.

5:30 - that comment makes it seem like the Soviet government cared about their people :D they kept the monument fearing the Latvian reaction, so they just changed the "meaning" of the monument.
Rinkēvičs is actually the first openly gay president in the world, not only in Europe. Before that, there were several PMs in the world who were openly gay, but he was the first head of state.
About that world first Christmas tree... (as an friendly neighbor Estonian I can´t let that one go). The first Christmas tree was actually documented to be erected at Tallinn’s Town Hall Square 1441 by the local Brotherhood of Blackheads. Cheers Latvia & Riga 😁
Riga is NOT Latvia - it is a local Capital city...and will mimic European cities. If you want to see Latvia - sit in a 4x4 and go rural, go villages, go the shore, lakes, swamps, forests, etc
Do you think Latvia is a Hidden Gem?
No. To call Latvia a hidden gem in 2024 sounds willfully ignorant.

This video just made Riga jump to the top of my travel list! The architecture and history are breathtaking.
Right! We had no idea what to expect and the people we met were very friendly ☺️
@@morristosee That is exactly why I went there TWICE this year.(This time yesterday I was still in my apartment.)
@@muradhasssanjoyYes but make sure you see more than just Riga.
The ''dumplings''you ate at the Central market actually were originated from Georgia in Caucasus , they are called Chinkali .
Yum! 🤤 You can learn so much about cultures through food, it's amazing!

The longest river on the territory of Latvia is Gauja.
Daugava begins in Russia, flows through Belarus and ends (flows into the Baltic Sea) in Latvia.
The more you know! I'm pretty sure we saw the Gauja river in the National Park!
@@morristosee Yes. At the beginning of the video, your friend from Latvia told you that Daugava is the longest river in Latvia :)
came here to clarify the same thing lol. at 2:54 the explanation is a bit wonky

Are latvian people friendly? Towards foreigners?
We didn't experience any issues! People were friendly, engaged in conversations with us, and gave recommendations!
They are friendly, but rather quiet and don't tend to speak a lot. They tend to seem a bit stoic.
