      I recently started knitting again. Now when I visit my Grandparents, I help my Grandpa split wood, and help maintiance his engines, and knitt and sew with my Grandma. My Grandfather actually said that it's a nice skill to aquire, and also mentioned how soldiers in the British army used to all know how to knitt. Don't worry what others think. Just do what makes you happy (aslong as it doesn't hurt anyone). If your Teacher is a history Teacher, remind him that Knitting was invented by men, and was a popular activity for them for awhile.

    You know, your videos are so incredibly helpful. Actually, I credit you for teaching me. I had started knitting a week before I found you, and I was always frustrated. Thank you for taking the time to explain things at a learning pace and for making such wonderful videos. Keep doing what you’re doing because you’re amazing. Thank you, again.

    I need more RJ Knits videos. Everyone else’s videos are a convoluted exercise in confusion. I got asked if I knit continental and I honestly don’t know. I knit RJ method.
    Now, if I can figure out how to make socks, I’ll be golden. I’ve been a crocheter for quite awhile and knitting seemed more complicated than necessary.
    Please keep making videos

    Tricia, the important thing is tension. You don't want to have ladders between needles, always pull the yarn taught when knitting the first stitch. Its also better to do a knitted cast on or a long tail cast on when working in the round. It will help keep the stitches on the needle. Also be sure not to twist your knitting whilst joining.

    OK. I didn't know that you use a new needle to knit the next section when knitting in the round. I guess I thought you had to use the needle next to the section. I'm not sure how or why it all works, but that was a big thing to learn. I bought some dpns so now I can try it. Thanks for being so clear.

    Can you use circular needles for this

  • @maryschatz8406
    @maryschatz8406 9 років тому

    I just started my first DPN project as a beg knitter at a knitting group. Without realizing it I knitted one needle and instead of adding in the newly empty 4th needle I knitted without it. A woman fixed it somehow. Went home. And did it again. I think I have my knitting now on 2 needles instead of 3 and am totally lost. This apparently common mistake is not addressed anywhere on the web!

    • @RJKnits
      @RJKnits  9 років тому

      Hi Giesela! This is pretty common. I should do a quick-hit video about this! Your knitting is not ruined, don't worry! If I'm understanding your problem correctly, you should be able to take a new needle and use that to start knitting the stitches that are probably all stuffed onto one of your other needles.
      Now, to spread your knitting back out onto 3 needles (or more, if you want), stop knitting with that new needle when you're about halfway through the stitches on the other needle (in your left hand). Set aside the new needle, then bring in another new needle to knit off the remaining stitches.
      Hopefully that is somewhat helpful! I'm awful at giving knitting tips via UA-cam comment. ;)

      RJ Knits
      I so appreciate a real reply! unfortunately i'm not following:( The woman at knitting circle just sort of looped them off the one needle back onto the third needle somehow? I say "looped" I don't know what she was doing but it sort of looked like she was putting one stitch over the other....maybe dropping a stitch to go back to the way it was?

    How would I rid myself of the corner holes when I'm knitting in a pattern, such as ribbing?
    For example, if I were knitting a 2x2 rib... should I just knit (or purl) the first two stitches, depending on where I am in the round when I reach a "new" needle?

    • @oxithefolf4485

      You would need to have a 4 stitxh multiple

  • @lilayu40
    @lilayu40 5 років тому

    Wondered why the knitting needle kit came with multiples of each #.. My knitting needles are pairs connected (circular needles?) because that's what was suggested for knitting socks and hats. Does this replace using the 5 needles as your video demonstrates? Again, great video. Watching them is calming for something that is intimidating! :)

    Hi I'm trying, the key word here, to knit a pair of socks. It's a 75% wool yarn so it's a thick super fine but still super fine (1). I'm having a terrible time getting my first row to come out looking good. My loops are coming off my left needle way too big and leaves a horrible looking what will be the top of my sock. I am using a K2, P2 ribbing for the cuff and on my purls the loops are coming off pretty big as well and looks sloppy. Any tips to help with this? I have trouble with anything (4) weights or under doing this. Thanks a lot for any advice you can offer.

    • @northernlightscrafts
      @northernlightscrafts 6 років тому

      Jordan Bajcar I've discovered that for me the sloppiness of the cast on row was due to the cast on method I was using. Long tail cast on is more stretchy and elastic and flexes. Not sloppy looking. Just my experience is all. Good luck.
