Hey, that was a fun video. Good to see Ray out helping Stretch to bolt his rear view back onto his passenger side door. I went to boarding school in Toowoomba (Downlands College down the end of Ruthven Street). I always enjoyed the Carnival of Flowers. It is a well known fact that Toowoomba is full of Pansies. Used to whoop the arse off them at footy on Saturdays. I haven't watched the whole video as yet. Got side tracked. But I know some interesting facts about Cobb & Co. Some key words - Fred Linning Gatton Bus Service, 30 Spencer Street Gatton, big old tree with big cut off branch scars on front alignment north-west side of front yard, Cobb & Co coaches between Ipswich and Toowoomba stopped at this very point to change horses and for passengers to have a rest stop. Fred Linning was born about 1880 so you can work out that I think it was his father that owned all that land and who was contracted by Cobb & Co for the horses, looking after passengers etc. Anyway, my father bought that block of land off Fred Linning and built the house you see on Google Maps Street View. And as a kid, I played in that tree, built a tree house in it, etc, etc. That tree has so much history that probably not many people any more know that it was an important location for Cobb & Co Coaches. And obviously, the next generation of passenger travel after Cobb & Co Coaches was buses as operated by Fred Linning (his house was 2 doors further to the west - house not there anymore). I forgot his wife's name but played with his 3 grand-daughters - their father was Murray Linning killed in a plane crash at Gatton Agricultural College airstrip. So, there you go, you have the privilege of knowledge that very few people alive today know about. The Linnings kids would still retain this knowledge. Cheers Brian.
Beautiful gardens, and that parade was amazing.... i saw neenish tarts in the bakery.... I havent had a neenish tart in years.. I love them.....even the bakery here in Loxton doesnt have them......pretty hard to get fresh cream in apple turnovers in bakerys nowadays........take care :)
Maggie Beard the TV chef from the Baroosa Valley makes Neemish Tarts with white icing on half the biscuit and chocolate icing on the other half the biscuits. They look alright. And you are right, you can't beat fresh cream on your jam and cream doughnut etc. I only take my coffee with fresh cream - have done so since working in America in the mid '90's.
Love the flowers and gardens in Toowoomba, great video guys thanks.👍
