- In this clip we see Dr. David Drumlin tell Dr. Ellie Arroway how we live in an unfair world. He says this to her because she should've been the one to go on the trip and would've been the one to go if it wasn't for him unethically twisting how events transpired.
Ellie tells him that, "I've always believed that the world is what we make of it."
This is in response to him telling her, "too bad, but that's just how the ball bounces." (I'm paraphrasing. Watch the video, or movie for that matter)
Essentially, Dr. Drumlin is a coward. He is trying to excuse his greedy, despicable behavior by saying "the world is unfair" and that's why "things are the way things are." But he made CHOICES to pathetically worm his way into a position so that he could greedily get what he wanted... at the expense of other people, specifically, Ellie.
This is a crystal clear example of several small pieces of phenomenon in a deluded person's mind... and one large glaring example of a deluded coward Not taking accountability. He blames the world for how things turned out, excusing his own choices for hurting another human being when it is his own actions that caused the outcome.
How YOUR actions, small though they were in the BEGINNING, changed MY life. It doesn't take much for you maggots to change the course of a life.

This line Ellie says will always be one of the highlights of the movie.
Yes, I agree. For those that are actually free, the fault lies on YOU. #gangstalking
Especially nice and profound touch from the filmmakers, how the Machine disappears behind Dr. Drumlin as he lectures Ellie.
Dr. Drumlin was such an academic sleeze.
Same with alchemist in Ancient China, the one took the credits were those with connection or relatives to Imperial Officials.
The same with the last 4 years, the one that told everyone what to do is not exactly the brightest scientists and we know how it turns out.
“To believe in God is to know that all the rules will be fair, and that there will be wonderful surprises.”
- Ugo Betti
Such an underrated scene.. becuz it speaks volumes as to the human nature & of society and religion
Nice video, thanks. It's funny how she ends up doing the test because of something being done off screen. Something that might be thought of as superfluous, had they been aware at the time.
It was actually the last time they will see each other in real life...
I love that scene , specially that line from Dr. Ellie
He's wearing sun glasses even though it's cloudy as hell. It might as well be night.
If they remade this movie, which they would not do, what characteristics do you think they would be looking for to cast Ellie nowadays?
300+ pound super woke body positive receding hairline hot-pink hair green armpit blue crotch sub-sahara/Asian gay queer LG-HDTV genderfluid pro-Israel pro-immigramt anti-white anti-male Hillary supporter trans-female.
Well, one could argue that pandering is not reality either. A form of BS to get what you want. Usually at the cost of others. Would we really want someone like that to meet another species for the first time? Maybe that works here on earth but is that the way the cosmos is? Maybe, but very unlikely.
2:05 Burn!!!
The movie actually said to me it’s still a man’s world. She was brilliant but not good enough. She didn’t fit in.
It had little to do with her being a woman. It was all about cronyism, connections, and pandering to the public. The fact that she was a woman really didn't enter into it.
lmao did you actually watch the movie? like entirely?
Another woke person lmao..Ellie is an idealist she pursues science whereas everybody wants good business this reminded me of Don't Look Up
@@castafioreomg -so everyone is woke who doesn’t agree with your opinion?
There can certainly be a valid argument in many cases where this is true in reality, but I think for this particular movie, her gender didn't really hold her back.
This movie suffered from too many lame scripted male characters and there is no better example than here.
Damm good observation. Third-wave feminism in da house.
And jodie isn't shallow and pathetic
Misandry
So this is where the slow sexists gather
