To be honest fan culture in America is pretty awful. If you’re perceived as the best and you lose, suddenly you're trash. If you beat the best everyone adores you and the cycle repeats.
Every victory is negated by one failure. No respect for time or effort put in because people don’t see it, and I’ll never get over that.

@@z4ck261 true, its the same in every aspect of American culture. A team in nba, nfl, etc beats another good team and its suddenly that good team is now ass or so much worse. You beat someone in a game one time and suddenly you should never play the game again cause you're awful. An artist or actor wins an award over another, wow that other artist/actor must be awful not listening to them again. People in the US are such bandwagoners or hype beast that they move from win to win and forget the past in days, truly an annoying part of american entertainment.

As an MMA fan, which is pretty international, people like underdogs because they like to see people rise to the occasion, overcome adversity, and beat the odds. I think the story of Rocky is pretty universal even if it's American. In combat sports, a strong champion causes their entire division to rise up and get better, not just to beat them at the top, but to beat the competitors just below them as well. Most of us are average joes, wishing or striving to be the best and know most of us won't make it. So when we see someone, who we feel is similar, actually win, we can empathize with that person.

Honestly, this series is probably my favourite thing to watch in youtube recently. I only joined the ssb community when Smash 4 was released, and just this year I'm starting to understand the melee scene. I always knew about the documentary, but never actually watched it, so watching you talking about it, giving extra info, backstage view and whatnot is really cool, specially because you were the best player in the first smash game I ever played seriously. Keep going, ZeRo, you're awesome, and this series is really good.

I should have just went and watched the documentary. You quit smash because your not good at losing, making poor excuses so your ego isn't crushed. Like you have an opportunity to be a role model and you just spit in the face of them. People ask you for advice so that they can figure out how to execute, where do they start and where do they end. If you can point them to where the stairs are then they'll walk it, but most don't even know where the stairs are or which ones to take. Then to say its not worth trying when you reach the top or if people hate on you is also disappointing to hear, with that outlook things get rusty pretty quick. Glad to see your happy making videos, I suppose it works out in the end, but just consider with great power comes great responsibility.

I feel like this is what happens when the bottom of the barrel in society congregate. The socially awkward, the immature, those with no true sense of self create these toxic communities. Why hate on someone with a streak to the point of blatant disrespect? If they’re that good then it is what it is. They’ll eventually drop the streak, just enjoy the spectacle of high level play while being respectful. Too fucking easy.

Smash Bros could take a big look at the Tetris Community, how a REAL good competitive scene is done. Jonas dominated for 6 years, still gets cheered on and wholesomed by the whole community. Anyone there is so friendly and just respects big plays, doesn't matter who does them. Well, Tetris has a more grown up scene and not so many kids, but people still should watch how they do it, and do it like them.
