I've done it 9 times over the years in a variety of forms. As a 5 day leisurely trek to a 2 day fast pack and even as a yo yo. I would always recommend taking your time. However, it isn't really about the gear. It's about packing needs and not fears. Take enough gear that will keep you warm, dry, and well fed. But nothing more. Share gear if possible. Learn to use trekking poles and use these same poles as the structure to your shelter. Minimze your clothing. It is okay to stink a bit. Start hiking early and make camp late. Moderate your pace. Drink lots of water but don't carry a lot of water. Glad you had a fun time.
Honestly, this trail looks miserable. I can’t believe how poorly maintained it is and all the mud… I really don’t see the appeal of slogging through a rainforest. I’ll check out some US through hikes instead.
Haha, thats fair enough! It's definitely something people try taking on for the challenge of doing so. I think thats what makes it fun for a lot of people, but yeah, it's not your "nicest" or cleanest hiking experience for sure.
Thanks for the tips and thoughts - I am going to on it this August - hopefully will be dry and sunny😊
Best of luck to ya!! You'll have so much fun!!
