- Опубліковано 17 тра 2011
- "Riders on the Storm" is a song by The Doors from their 1971 album, L.A. Woman. It reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, number 22 on the UK singles charts and number 7 in the Netherlands.
Why did Manzarek say it was hard to play for the bassist.
Yea, just came here to see what was so hard about it but it looks rather simple.
Try playing lead piano and bass at the same time then comment
Per Abrahamsen i am a bass player this line isn't that hard
THE MAX .. LOL .. I CAME RIGHT HERE TOO..... HAHAHA ... IT NEVER SOUNDED THAT HARD TO ME
Per Abrahamsen: Ah ha! That''s interesting - do you know what part of the song actually IS hard to play for the bassist?
It is one of the most COOL bass lines Everrrr! :O) Played by Jerry Scheff who was the regular bassist on much of the early Elvis Presley stuff.
I love it! Thank you for taking the time to share it with us!
I find myself returning to hear this fantastic tune quite often. Without a doubt this is the best bass playing that I've ever heard. So deep and rich. I actually prefer your rendention over the original.
The only accurate cover that I've seen this far.
once again, great job man.
Thank you for taking the time to get great sounds and clear signals!
probably the best bass line in history. love this and i dont even play the bass :-P
I think the same, Regards From Chile.
Thank you for your great videos! I'm learning a lot with you!
Really appreciated
thank you so much for your time and effort putting these songs up..i have learned ALOT from you..Ron
impressive brother, I was smiling ear to ear when I learnt that little climb in betwwen verses. love it! great job.
+jason appleby
Thank you very much for your kind words :)
infusion26 can u teach me jow to do that. AMAZING sound
Your videos are very accurate, very clear and you cover some great songs! Thanks for posting them Infusion.
What a solid sound.
Great job.
Excellent job and you're right about trying to learn stuff by listening and finding them. That's the way we did it in the old days, and it really pays off in playing and it gets easier and easier to hear the notes. But I have to admit now a days my laziness, and I search for stuff on You Tube to learn. Hats off to your playing!
Yes totally agree-we "ear-trained"players became very aware of the chord structure, riffs or baselines. And considering that the mailship took six weeks to get from the UK to the "outer reaches" of the world, the song you wanted to learn to play was out of fashion when your sheet music arrived!
sounds great, good work! thank you for the video!!
really good cover and great that you provided the tab for download. thanks
Nice job and also nice job of using the smooth deep 70's tone unlike some of the kids on here who are trying to play this with a trebeled out metallic sound. Out side of funk music, 70's rock or even jazz had that great smooth deep traditional sound. You nailed it.
infusion26 nails em all. Check out the rest :)
It sounds very accurate....you have the 60s feeling!
I liked it very much. Go on and keep on sharing, man
Bass sounds great. Beautiful tone and great playing.
Jim
Such a great bass line.
you did really good, great sound, very very accurate playing.
For this to only hit 14 in the US - what must have been happening in music at that time. My god.
Lovin the tone and the bass, nice cover man
Hey man I haven't had a chance to thank you for your UA-cam videos. I don't have a lot of time to learn songs between the job and the wife and the kids so when I need to learn a new tune I cross my fingers and Hope that you're covering it. Anyway thanks for your hard work.
One word.....smooth
Great Job - Good Feel & Tone
smooth, smooth, smooth....
Wow what a great lick
You are smooth as silk in all of your videos that I've seen.
I sooo like the sound of the bass :)
This is a Manzerek masterpiece.
Yeah that's my old Yamaha BB3000 bass in the background. An oldie, but a goodie :)
@MrJaden318 Thanks for your kind words I appreciate it :-)
Perfect
sounds really good
infusion26 , I like this song
I'm back again for my bass 'fix'. LOL
Awesome stuff bro!!!
great job
@Spector2112 Thanks for the nice comments
Great cover! I have that same Yamaha BB that you have in the background. But the lakland sounds sweet
Aaah The Doors, altijd goed.
@Tenebroso92 I am really glad that people appreciate this video but I have to remind you that I do not have tabs, but instead of tabs just teach it to yourself by ear like real musicians do. You'll feel much better about yourself if you figure it out on your own than if you use tabs (which may be wrong anyway) Just try listening to it and you'll figure it out
Good luck !!!
Simply cool "lazy bass", unobtrusive but solid in laying down the groove!
@wzorcherona I play a open note (A) , then I play the 12th fret (A)
verry verry nice
On base its: E minor to A major , Manzarek's Piano
Any real musician knows it's a B Sharp LoL 😂
last studio album the group owed elektra. recorded in their rehersal room without paul rothchild at the helm. the awesome jerry scheff brought in for bass duties. scheff claimed those sessions were among his most fun and challenging recordings.
now combine this with the rhodes piano bass. LOVE IT! thanks!
For better results use headphones

Who was playing on this recording? Jerry Scheff from Elvis TCB band?
Yes and played on every track of LA Woman.
The original bass part was played by studio bass wiz Jerry Scheff !
Fuck me! That is the way a bass needs to be played, effortlessly. I must get this tune sorted on my bass, I forget how amazing this sounds! Brilliant!
@tbcass yeah doesnt have a traditional bass guitar line kind of feel
Such a pleasure bass voice. mmmm
By the way is that a 80s era BB 3000 Series Bass in the background?
Yes thats right.
I start the riff on the A string, 7th fret. I then can do the whole riff without moving my hand. Is this wrong?
Yes,cuz the tone won't be so good
Do you play any of The Stranglers bass lines ?
the bass is a yamaha rbx170?
Thanks !! Veel oefenen en goed luisteren. Begin eerst met de wat eenvoudige baslijnen. Suc6
Very good! By the way, brother, do you know who did play the bass at the Doors?
There was never a bassist when they performed live, when they recorded they used many bass players for various tracks.
Antonio Serrano Jerry Scheff on this track and the rest of L.A Woman.
Jerry is Jason Scheff's father, Chicago singer and bassist
@infusion26 then I have just found my own way to play it ;] thanks
@Suricatoist No this is a Lakland 44-02 bass
He, Strak gedaan zoals altijd, Ik probeer op gehoor te spelen maar dat wil nog niet echt... heb je tips ?
great job, dude. one question.
00:53 and 00:55 - that are flageolet (whistles, harmonics, I'm not so sure about translation), on the 5th and 12th fret? Thanks for useful material for practice.
im a kid in 2016 and love it
FSU fight song, go work out there, beautiful weight room
Congratulations.
Piece of advice... Nobody cares. You have good taste in music and just leave it at that
The original bass line was done on a keyboard.
can you send me tabs?
you say you feel better when you figure it out yourself -- maybe you don´t care too much, but scheff played some pretty subtle fill notes at the a part that you missed completely
Joey porter
This was my first song as a bassist on stage - I’m glad I didn’t hear ray’s comment before I played it !!
your mutting is perfect
YEAH ASI SE TOCA, PASA LA TABLATURA PLEASE
this is ever so slightly out of time at the start but it gets much better in the second verse. Thanks for showing me all the cool bass fills and transitions though. Good work mate!
Put down the huka and slowly back away from youtube
@infusion26 ^.^
Need for Speed
Nice cover, but just one thing, watch out that wrists. You don't want to damage your body. Keep them in a straight position ;)
First yayXD
I came to see what all the fuss was about.........looks pretty easy....
nfs underground 2
robotomo Best game ever made.
great song if you work out in the FSU weightroom
my personal opinion is that you hold the last note too long, mute it faster.
underground 2 theme song😂
hamid ahma hell yeah!
Are you playing the "same notes" (he had chart with quick download for tab on the page) as this smooth groove? Just wondering. Thanks. ua-cam.com/video/UexbRCnn3mw/v-deo.html
I'm not saying Manzarek was full of ***t, but Manzarek was full of ***t. That is a total beginner's bassline !
your cover of think
Aretha franklin was greatest thing ever and it was removed one was wounded.
Not played correctly, to much staccato
more loud you pls, i fucking don't hear the bass
Hatvan Beno put some earphones
