Hike Gone Wrong… (MOUNTAIN RESCUE!!) in Leopard Canyon

- I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to the amazing team from the UAE National Search & Rescue who in coordination with the Ras Al Khaimah police carried out a search and rescue mission to airlift me of the top of Jabal Al Ahqab Mountain in Ras Al Khaimah.
I had gone hiking through the Leopard Canyon and by the time I reached the summit of the mountain, it was getting dark, and I wasn’t able to find a safe way down. The terrain was rugged and difficult to navigate.
BIG Lesson learned - NEVER go hiking in the mountain’s without planning your route before hand - plan your ascent as well as your decent before your start guys!! I had planned my route up to the Hanging Gardens area but decided to continue up from there and assumed I could simply find the "donkey trail" to come down. This was a mistake!
I am an experienced hiker and fortunately I was well equipped, but I underestimated the difficulty level from the top to come down. Prepare yourself properly when hiking, or climbing, take enough water and preferably don’t go alone!
Besides that, this was a very enjoyable and beautiful hike. The first section up to the Hanging Gardens is moderate but very enjoyable hike through the Leopard Canyon. The trail starts from a small farmhouse, which is only accessible with 4x4. Alternatively, you can park 3kM further down if you don’t have a 4x4 and hike the extra distance to the start of this trail.
A few weeks later, I went back with my family, and we hiked the first section up to the Hanging Gardens with my wide and our kids aged 9 and 11 again. The kids managed it well but the last section before reaching the Hanging Gardens can be a bit tricky for younger kids and requires some bouldering, so take it slow and easy! It took us about 4 hours for the hanging gardens full loop, inclusive of a few stops along the way and nice lunch break at the hanging gardens.
The Hanging Gardens is beautiful and the perfect spot for a nice lunch break.

Location of the hike starting point is about 135km, 1h:45min drive from Dubai. Basically you head towards RAK and Jebel Jais and then exit the Jebel Jais road before reaching Wadi Al Bayh Dam:

Thank god you are safe and rescued. I have done this trail last year in March 2021 along with a group of 5 friends. It was definitely a tough trail but remarkable views. Since you are a vlogger, I believe that also took some extra hours to capture the right views or click good spots. Somehow, hiking is one hell of series to learn lessons.
We had shortage of water as well, but we made through till down with last sips of water. Then villagers at bottom gives us chilly cold water which was the best and tastiest drink of life time 🤣🤣.
This year my memorable hike was STH left bank full loop along with a friend and we camped at the top. Next day we start decending and we lost in Oman mountains. Again many lessons learned but we r still alive. Your video remind me of that beautiful trail and im gonna attempt it by Nov 2022 for sure.
Keep hiking and keep entertaining. It's an adrenaline for enthusiasts, never surrender, never back off. Much better entertainment than partying and night clubs.
Thanks Adnan, yes you’re right…I spent quite a bit of time taking pictures and videos which slowed me down a bit, so I only reached the summit quite late in the afternoon. Hiking in mountains is definitely an awesome activity, with lots of adventure and adrenaline which I absolutely love. Great to hear that you have also done the STH left bank full loop…that’s on my bucket list for end of this year or early next year. I'm also doing night hikes now days once in a month. It is also a good adventure to be in the wild at night time with easy level trails.
