The reason your Japanese pancakes weren't jiggly is because Evan knocked all the air out every time he flipped them. And they tasted eggy because you only added 1/3 of the total sugar. it should have been 6 Tablespoons, added in thirds, ie. 2 Tbsp at a time, not 2 Tbsp total. They deserve a re-do.
raw eggs are fine to eat as long as they haven't been tampered with. I mean think about the extremely sterile and specific environment of the vulva. The inside of an egg needs to be extremely sterile in order for the chicken to develop properly, otherwise it wouldn't make it. You're more likely to get sick from simply handling the outside of an egg, but don't worry, they clean them before selling them.
The baking powder being OVER A DECADE PAST DUE absolutely killed me, Katelyn's horror and Evan's cackling when he discovered it was the funniest thing I've seen all week Lmaoo
“I added the baking powder! I know I did!” - and my first thought was “I bet it expired in like 2020…” I was right… but waaaaayyyyy off! 😂😂😂 Poor Katelyn!
You guys should get one of those big plastic floor mats for under desks to put in this room so you don't have to keep worrying about the carpet so much.
With the first hack, the person did not add a cup of flour! That looked much smaller, like half a cup or 1/3 or 1/4 and they didn’t even add it all, they just sprinkled!
This recipe reminds of the vintage ice cream bread on tiktok. The idea being that ice cream has fat and sugar (and sometimes egg) already so you don't need to add any just flour and rising agent. Also these antics make me feel better about my own cooking adventures with tiktoks that don't provide the clearest instructions lol
Absolutely, I thought the same thing! Also putting firm ice cream in flour to make a pancake will always be a disaster because the more you have to mix it the tougher the bread will be.
I'm 22 minutes in and the reason the pancakes had the texture of bread is because of how thoroughly mixed the flour was. Plenty of stimulation and liquid to create gluten, which gives baked goods their structure (in this case, their tougher texture). That's why biscuit (American biscuit) recipes will say something like "mix until barely combined," and/or "Do not overmix!" something like that. Source- I really really like baking bread. And eating it!
Just a slight correction: kneading does not *create* gluten, it "activates" gluten. Gluten itself is insoluble in water; mixing makes the other ingredients fully incorporate with the non-gluten parts in flour. Over kneading mechanically separates out the gluten from the rest of the chemically bonded ingredients. You want the gluten kind of "free" to bind the rest of the ingredients in a matrix, but not separated out completely. Hence the mixing but not over-mixing. The leavening ingredients (baking powder/yeast) create the gas that causes bread to rise. The gluten binder is what stretches out to keep the gas suspended in that matrix, otherwise the bubbles would escape and cause the dough to go flat. This results in a denser, chewy texture once baked. This is also why gluten free baked goods tend to be dense, or develop huge holes in loaves of bread because they need so much extra leavening to achieve an airy texture.

Literally who can use a whole jar of baking powder in under a year though? I don’t think I’ve finished off a container of baking powder in my life, let alone before it’s expiration date. The size of the jar has got to be some sort of scam to keep you buying more than you need.
When my girls were toddlers, I'd slice apples and dip them into pancake batter with cinnamon and the cook them. It helped cook down the apple to make it a bit safer for them to eat. They were also delicious!
You were both discussing letting the batter sit. It's actually better to do so, because it allows the rising agent to do its job. 10 minutes at least, and you will see bubbles develop in the batter, for better flapjacks :). And if your rising agent is old, your cakes won't develop air and will be flatjacks :(

So I just learned something cool! Apparently listening to you guys worked as body doubling for me! This can happen in person, over the phone, or through video calls. For people with ADHD, it can be especially helpful as it provides an external structure or accountability, making tasks feel less overwhelming. The presence of another person often triggers a productive mindset, allowing the person to focus and get things done. I basically watched in the corner of my eye, and then I just started to walk around and do tasks haha I think it’s because it’s basically like hearing two friends talk. I’m gonna try it next time as well!
I regularly use their uncut videos (and sometimes gaming uncut) for body doubling but the edits have too much going on for me to use them the same way lol.
I never knew that was a named thing! I will often call my mom or friends and make them tell me to get up, feed myself, get my medicine together, etc. I always say I just need them to chaperone me because it's easier to guilt myself into productivity when I know someone is waiting on me.
I do this a lot! Usually E&K or Lilsimse vods from Twitch(not sure how to write it haha). It's so helpfull to go through the day doing my chores and not feel alone

I cooked them a few months ago with a random basic sweet pancake recipe (just did everything except batter the same)- u can do it with any recipe u like I'm pretty sure, except very very runny ones- and they were a 10/10 for a cinnamon lover (also you can add a bit of nutmeg and cinnamon into the batter itself, and take some of the cinnamon out of the butter-sugar mixture)
Or maybe I did it with the right recipe first, and then one random one I usually use - it for sure always worked and was a 10/10, I was flabbergasted why they didn't like it XD
When I was like 12, I decided I wanted to cook pancakes for the first time, but we didn't have any pancake mix. We did however have a bag of flour that had a pancake mix recipe on it, so for the first time in my family, someone made pancakes from scratch. I was TERRIBLE at flipping them, so they broke up really bad, but they were delicious. After that, my family regularly begged me to make "scrambled pancakes" for years afterwards, so its a family tradition now.
1:25:15 "I don't know what they put on top" says Katelyn, with the jar of Nutella _clearly visible_ in the video. These TikTok things are terrible for not giving proper instructions to the point I wonder what the _hell_ is wrong with kids these days that millions of them are liking things they clearly don't understand, but this one is pretty clear for once.
My favorite part about the expired baking powder is that they have moved since that expired. They took that expired powder with them when they moved lol

Yes, this is good idea. I think they are similar to polish pancakes (known as "naleśniki") . I wonder what they gonna say about it vs american😁i need to bump up this comment xD In Poland we don't eat them regularly 😛 Because it is desert. And i recommend to look for recipe with sugar or vanilla sugar (whatever you prefer). But you can try without 😛xD And if you want without sugar they also use for something else like "krokiety", but they are much more job. When i was in Netherlands i heard you can buy liquid for pancake i was little surprised. And there are polish shops where you can buy pancakes. For a "first try" it is good, but in general i don't recommend buy them. Home made are better. In Poland in general we eat with apple jam, or white cheese. There are also with spinach. After you made your pancake you put jam and roll up or fold in. After you can fry them again.
Today I learned that it takes UA-cam stars over an hour to decipher a random 'recipe' off of a social media blast that they could have looked up in 30 seconds from an actual recipe site. Totally worth the humor and experience, thank you. I have to say, if you have not had legit Japanese Soufflé Pancakes, they do take about half hour to make, and they are magical!!!
Banana pancakes sound awesome. For school field trips mom usually made for me sandwich pockets in a toster. Butter up some bread slice up bananas add sugar cinnamon slose up the sandwich put in a toster.
Hello from the VOD 😂 Sorry you experienced so many technical difficulties but the chaos is extremely funny to watch. Thank you for your entertaining suffering 😅
45:10 Yes, eating raw flour is the most dangerous part of eating dough. I'm pretty sure in America they have premade cookie dough that's safe to eat. They've pre-treated the flour so it's safe to eat raw. Flour is dangerous because it never gets washed when made into flour, so it might have droppings, dead insects and other trash from the field in it. It's made with the assumption that it will be heated before consumption.
@@1nicube well yes, you're eating the ground insect however the problem is the potential nasty pathogens present in the flour that die from the heat. The insect is just free protein ❤
Only two minutes into the video, but looking at the joob christmas sweater... man if I had the space in my life for a sweater that I could only wear 1/12 of the year, that annoyed cat would be the one.
We do scrambled pancakes quite a bit. Makes pancakes for the family super fast. We use a giant skillet, a good amount of butter and the whole batch of batter. Then the pancakes are all done at once!
I honestly laughed SO hard as soon as the "DEC 2013" came into focus 😂😂 Sooo, I wanted to share with you something you both would love: Dutch pancakes, poffertjes and all of pancake culture in the Netherlands. We have thin pancakes the size of XL pizzas (a bit like crêpes) for dinner, with all sorts of toppings incorporated into them or on top of them. We have them at home or at pancake restaurants, farmhouses & boats - and yes, some actually go on a boat tour while you eat pancakes. Anyway, the pancakes get topped with an assortment of savoury or sweet toppings like veggies, apple syrup, powdered sugar, fruits or even icecream, but some of the favourites have cheese and/or bacon baked into them, or apple slices, so good! Poffertjes are like mini ufo-shaped pancakes, and you can get them at markets to eat with butter and powdered sugar. If you ever want to try something different: make some dutch "kaas en spek pannenkoeken" (cheese&bacon), I'm sure you'd love it!
I could never put my finger on what your chaos reminded me of, but it's definitely a lowkey Jesse and James from Team Rocket. OH!! And I guess that makes Joob Meowth, Perfect!
2:04:20 Did you check if your baking powder is still fresh? Seems like the batter did not bubble and rise as it is supposed to! 🥞 Knowing the troubles you had with old marshmallows in the past, I would not be surprised if the baking powder expired, too 😉
2:24:40 Ah! That also explains the lack of browning and the likely metallic taste 😅 While that is more common with baking soda, with baking powder THAT old, who knows!
You don't need self-rising flour. Just put baking *powder* into your batter along with flour (and oftentimes a bit of salt) - that's literally all that the "standard" boxed pancake mix is! Baking soda needs acid to form the bubbles (which are what the leavening is). Typically, you would only want to add in the acid with baking *soda* right before you begin cooking your baked goods so that the bubbles don't all escape. That's why I generally use baking *powder* most of the time, because it *doesn't* need an acid to rise. Baking soda is still useful for specific things though. Your first "pancakes" might have had too much flour compared to liquid, so much that they turned into more of a flat bread (but without proper leavening, lol). A lot of the differences between breads has to do with the ratios of flour to liquid, as well as the addition of eggs and/or oil (and kneading). Yeast breads can be 50% to 100% hydrated (meaning 50% of the weight of the flour should be the weight of the liquid). Pancakes are 100% to 150% hydration (a ratio of 1:1 or 1.5:1 of liquid-to-flour), and noodles are 30% to 60% hydration. Cake batter is 120% to 180% hydration. The less liquid to flour, the more rigid the batter. Pancake batter should not be rigid like a cookie or flat bread or noodle dough, it should be fluid, more like cake batter. When you scoop it with a spoon and tilt the spoon, the batter should flow right off the spoon. Also, when you add eggs or milk, those count as hydration because they are all liquids that usually contain some water in them. You don't have to use plain water, but the liquid that you choose (milk and/or eggs) changes the flavor, and can change the texture (eggs and milk have fat that can change the crumb). If you take a recipe that requires water and add an egg or milk, then you need to reduce the plain water you are also adding by the amount of water in the milk/egg you are adding. The other thing is I don't know how melted the ice cream was, but it would have to be pretty melted for it to work properly.
I got excited at the thought of the banana pancakes along with you lol. And I'm my head, I got the spark of chaotic joy, when my brain immediately broke into... MAKE THOSE BODIES SING (IYKYK)
Katelyn and my wife share a commonality of keeping old ingredients. Once I realized this, at least once a year I go thru the kitchen and trash everything expired. It's solved so many problems lol
I recently started "scrambling" my pancakes out of impatience mostly, uts quicker and I can throw all the batter into a pot and scramble it on high heat 😆. I quite like it, but unless someone asked for it I would just make them a regular pancake, for myself I just want to eat it fast so I dont care how it looks lmao Also, covering pancakes also makes them cook faster!
Easy "cinnamon roll" pancakes: Use pancake mix Add a bunch of brown sugar to it and a little cinnamon. Cook pancakes normally. They will look browner than normal pancakes. Then just cover them with plenty if butter. No syrup needed
Just so you know, I love the live with all the goofs because that is real. We all do whoops, crap and ‘I screwed this up’ at times. Your live stream is real and I love them
I was respectfully trying NOT to think of an old disaster movie while watching you love bugs on this one. Such a pain in the butt to nail great pancakes, yeah? Much love, can’t wait for the next long video. You made my day
Baking powder can just be bicarbonate of soda(baking soda) and cream of tartar (it's kinda of weird and not a cream but is used for things like meringues )so if you barely ever use baking powder you can add cream of tartar when you need it. Also, a while ago how to cook that (a baking channel who often does hack debunking) did a video on Japanese fluffy pancakes and she has tips and an improved recipe there.
I reckon you could get a skewer, and spear through the sides of slices of banana, and make a little banana kebab, then dip it in the batter, then they would be easier to flip!
About the cinnamon roll pancake and the Japanese pancake: I don't know if the result could be better, but I think you used the wrong kind of lid for that purpose because that's actually an anti-vapour lid, the little valve on top is there so vapour can escape from the pan.
I love using coconut oil to cook my pancakes. I don't remember when I started doing it, but it just makes it taste so good! also, you guys are amazing! I love everything you do🥰🫶🏻
do the mouth/chewing sounds get any less bad? im only ab 30 mins in and its driving me up the wall to the point i gotta turn off the vid and come back later
Never directly scoop your measuring cup into the flour/mix. Spoon it into the cup and then level. It compacts the flour/mix, and that can cause issues like a dense pancake.
Love how how you guys see a pancake is more like a flapjack where I'm from and pancakes are more reminiscent of crepes usually coverd in cinnamon sugar and rolled up or can be substituted for a savory mince or curry mince , quite a favorite among South Africans , would love to see you guys try a south african pancake 😮
Cinnamon roll redemption: -just use your normal pancake batter (boxed?) -less cinnamon in the butter if it was too strong First attempt cooked better, so plop the dough in, wait for top bubbles, add cinnamon spiral, splash water and cover. Your normal batter should behave like normal pancakes and not lift off the pan in their center.
I can thoroughly relate to the high expectation regarding sweets, cake, etc. When I have a piece of cake and I don't really like it, I feel wasteful for eating basically dead calories..... Needs to be amazing haha.
I used to do the ice cream one in college! I had a bread maker in my dorm room and would take ice cream from the cafe, add self rising flower, and press go. 2 hours later a lovely pound cake consistency bread. It was very fun to experiment with
I do cinnamon roll pancakes every so often and I prefer mixing the cinnamon swirl into a little bit of batter to swirl it in and create somewhat of a shield for the sugar so that you can safely flip the cake without burning the sugar. Also a griddle and non expired baking powder help 😂
Evan: I was talking about heating up gently. His gentle: aggressive, destructive or just chaotic. Me: mhm, your gonna be sooooooo gentle! 🙄😏 Also my fav ice cream is mint moose tracks, what's yours? 🍦
For cinnamon pancakes you can try putting a little batter, adding the cinnamon mix a little, then covering it up with regular batter again. I did this with my fruit pancakes and if it works with a fruit it's work with cinnamon also
The Japanese pancakes are soufflé pancakes - yours fell and that changed a lot about how you experience them. If you're interested in what they're supposed to be like, I'd suggest trying them again in a place that makes them regularly as they're actually fairly difficult to make.
Okay bananas with a chocolate hard shell and then pancake batter!!! So that it melts and it’s so good. Buuuut that might make the batter fall off once heated I don’t know.

Omfg, 2013 had me absolutely dying
Same!!!
It's made with the assumption that it will be heated before consumption.
having insect or thing like that wont change anything between cook and uncook 🤔
@@1nicube well yes, you're eating the ground insect however the problem is the potential nasty pathogens present in the flour that die from the heat. The insect is just free protein ❤
I thought eating raw dough was dangerous because uncooked eggs carry a greater risk for salmonella (which is mitigated by cooking the egg)?
@@AileenBakernope its the flour! Raw egg doesn’t help but raw flour is the more important part to cook.
@haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam egg are not pretty safe at all
21:30 “like, I wouldn’t seek it out…” [Evan agrees](while actively seeking it out) 😂
The audable gasp of me when I saw the baking powder.. HUNNY always ALWAYS do a purge when you move!!!
Only two minutes into the video, but looking at the joob christmas sweater... man if I had the space in my life for a sweater that I could only wear 1/12 of the year, that annoyed cat would be the one.
Love how quickly these come out after the streams. Benefit to Uncut.
Yea due to time zones I never catch these live so this is great
You guys are definitely pleasant to be around. I gotta love the food-themed videos :)
We do scrambled pancakes quite a bit. Makes pancakes for the family super fast. We use a giant skillet, a good amount of butter and the whole batch of batter. Then the pancakes are all done at once!
So many good moments! Can’t wait to see what the editors make of this video! 😂
I honestly laughed SO hard as soon as the "DEC 2013" came into focus 😂😂
Sooo, I wanted to share with you something you both would love: Dutch pancakes, poffertjes and all of pancake culture in the Netherlands.
Y’all are so sweet and so cute together happy holidays🎄 ❤
There is no such thing as "being careful" when it comes to flower lol, you just have to accept it will go everywhere any time you look at it haha!
I felt compelled to stick it out to the end because you did , I am impressed by the perseverance.
pancakes AND Evan and Katelyn? Absolutely, 100% yes! Now all I need are some pancakes in my own mouth, this video is making me hungry!
I could never put my finger on what your chaos reminded me of, but it's definitely a lowkey Jesse and James from Team Rocket. OH!! And I guess that makes Joob Meowth, Perfect!
A quick google shows that you are supposed to use equal parts softened ice cream and flour plus some vanilla
They've also had trouble with old bleach...
@@amcal88 thank goodness that wasn’t food related 🫣😂
These are some incredible ideas! There's going to be so many comments from people who tried these already and how they made them work!
Just started watching, 1:25 am for me and I'm already dubious of the ice cream pancake.
I've made the ice cream bread and its ok. I can see this turning out.
I think before these two do anything, there needs to be a three way check: levelled, mold release and items unexpired. 😁👍
I got excited at the thought of the banana pancakes along with you lol. And I'm my head, I got the spark of chaotic joy, when my brain immediately broke into...
MAKE
THOSE
BODIES
SING
(IYKYK)
Katelyn and my wife share a commonality of keeping old ingredients. Once I realized this, at least once a year I go thru the kitchen and trash everything expired. It's solved so many problems lol
I recently started "scrambling" my pancakes out of impatience mostly, uts quicker and I can throw all the batter into a pot and scramble it on high heat 😆. I quite like it, but unless someone asked for it I would just make them a regular pancake, for myself I just want to eat it fast so I dont care how it looks lmao
Also, covering pancakes also makes them cook faster!
Evan and Katelyn have taught me more about expiration dates than they have anything else, and that’s saying a lot
One cup milk, one cup self rising flour, one L egg, vanilla extract, 2 Tbs vegetable oil, 3 Tbs sugar. All in a bowl mix until smooth, make pancakes
Easy "cinnamon roll" pancakes:
Use pancake mix
Add a bunch of brown sugar to it and a little cinnamon.
You made my day
evan and katelyn are making the ranking chaos and i'm here for it
Baking powder can just be bicarbonate of soda(baking soda) and cream of tartar (it's kinda of weird and not a cream but is used for things like meringues )so if you barely ever use baking powder you can add cream of tartar when you need it.
The expiration jig that Evan did had me rolling. Ahaha ahaha ahaha!! 😂😂 This was the funniest episode ever. 🤣🤣❤️
I love everything you do🥰🫶🏻
LMAO!!!! The baking powder! As a cook this is quite hilarious. I love watching your videos. Now we know why they didn't rise to the occasion! =)
LOL First expired marshmallows now expired baking soda
This video inspired me to cook up some Kaiserschmarrn for dinner :D
Can't believe how weirded out they were by it as it is SUCH a stable here.
I love how considerate you are of certain sounds bothering people ❤️
do the mouth/chewing sounds get any less bad? im only ab 30 mins in and its driving me up the wall to the point i gotta turn off the vid and come back later
Evan’s finger licking is making this very difficult for me
As a person with SEVERE misophonia, i can't agree more.
I cheered when people in chat asked for the metal to metal stirring to stop. I was very close to opting out of the rest of the video.
You guys should get a Pancakebot. It's like a 3D Printer for pancakes (but it's 2D).
The correct answer to the Pancake/Waffle debate is simple: You're both wrong, French toast is the superior syrup-vehicle breakfast-carb.
There are some really good soufflé pancake recipes out there and soufflé pancakes are really good when they turn out.
Cinnamon roll redemption:
-just use your normal pancake batter (boxed?)
-less cinnamon in the butter if it was too strong
First attempt cooked better, so plop the dough in, wait for top bubbles, add cinnamon spiral, splash water and cover. Your normal batter should behave like normal pancakes and not lift off the pan in their center.
May your love for each other last as long as the pfas ❤
i'm so sad i couldn't watch this live, because it seemed like a rollercoaster to see unfold😅 the streams are always so late at night for me though :(
Me: hum, what am I going to watch while eating tonight?
E&K: surpriiiiise!!! 🥳🥳
Also a griddle and non expired baking powder help 😂
husband on a spectrum readin' ingredients is peak entertainment
Merry Christmas guys
I love pancakes! And you guys too! 🎉 you guys inspire my ideas and crafts you guys are why I started resin 😁😄
This stream was so cursed hahaha thanks for your hard work and I'm so glad you do the uncut uploads so we can watch the bits we missed 😂❤
8:24 "I talked about heating it up gently", meanwhile a minute ago @ 7:19 Evan talks about torching it😂🤣
the struggle is real in this video
French toast is the superior 👑
On the ice cream pancake, getting the ice cream to a frosty consistency and then adding in the flour till the right consistency would be my go.
Evan: I was talking about heating up gently.
His gentle: aggressive, destructive or just chaotic.
Me: mhm, your gonna be sooooooo gentle! 🙄😏
Also my fav ice cream is mint moose tracks, what's yours? 🍦
For cinnamon pancakes you can try putting a little batter, adding the cinnamon mix a little, then covering it up with regular batter again. I did this with my fruit pancakes and if it works with a fruit it's work with cinnamon also
I'm a waffle girl. I put ice cream on them, not in them😂😅 but French toast is my favorite. Yum
The thing about adding liquid when cooking is it creates steam. Inside of baked goods, this is important to create the lil air pockets we love!
This was the most chaotic stream I’ve ever seen
I’m totally making a few banana pancakes for my parrots for Christmas. That’s cute as hell.
The baking powder! 😂 It expires in like a week after buying it!
i love binge watching these
2:24:49 flashbacks from the expired marshmallows 🤣🤣
The Japanese pancakes are soufflé pancakes - yours fell and that changed a lot about how you experience them. If you're interested in what they're supposed to be like, I'd suggest trying them again in a place that makes them regularly as they're actually fairly difficult to make.
Okay bananas with a chocolate hard shell and then pancake batter!!! So that it melts and it’s so good. Buuuut that might make the batter fall off once heated I don’t know.
I was there during the live it was fun tryna join every time the live decided to fail😅😂
