- In this series, we're going to be going through the new features added in Lumion 10. Up first is displacement maps - a new feature that allows you to create much more realistic materials but simulating the actual ins and outs of a material!

Good morning everyone! Let me know what you think about the Lumion 10 new features you've seen so far in the comments below!
if i import the model with top and side materials differently and then apply same material in lumion , and can i got side wise displacement?
THANKS FOR ALL MAN!
Any solution for the corners?
What do you think about adding such a feature without the option to customize it with your own materials?
Its like someone made you your favorite cake but only gives you one bite to eat.
I know we all feel the same way about. I want to be like oh cool displacement maps! But then they didn't add another mapping option for customs.
Personally I think it's a bit odd, but I also kind of like the way Lumion is packaged for users that aren't architectural rendering experts - it's targeted towards a very specific audience and gives them a "jump in and get started" experience where they don't have to figure out a bunch of maps or complicated material settings - they just use the ones that are included. I kind of see it from both sides
@@TheRenderingEssentials the problem is that no architect will choose his finish materials based on the existing library. Your a designer and you want the flexibility to visualize your design accurately.
Hi, great job, thanks. I'm still using Lumion 9.5 but tried the 10 trial version. I tried to change the diffusion and normal maps using a displace material with my own textures and it worked. I could move the slider and the displacement was applied to my customized maps.
Great video Justin , i have a question now i have lumion 8 and its floating license , if i upgrade to lumion 10 pro will it stay floating as well .
This I don't know - I'd reach out to Lumion with this question - I don't know anything about how their license system works
Lumion 10 is floating as well.
@@martijnhermans4535 so even if I am upgrading from 8 to 10 the floating license will remain ? Thx
@@faresjawad3096 Yes, it will :). It is the only type of license that we have.
@@martijnhermans4535 thx so much 🙂
really nice walk through , but lumion does something called parallax effect not an actual geometry tessellation or the GPU will go bananas :-D that is why it doesn't work with sharp edges as intended , on the other hand it is impressive feature , can't wait they apply to any material of your creation
Is displacement map option available in lumion 10.01?
I think so
Hello where to download displacement maps for lumion 10?
They come with the PBR materials you download from websites
I would like to ask you some question.... Because some things are not clear to me.... How can i contact you please... You're the best bro! 😊
How do you add displacement maps to your own materials? I'm trying to figure out if this is possible?
As of right now you can't
@@TheRenderingEssentials This is why Lumion annoys me. Just add a texture slot.Unreal Engine keeps getting easier to use, if they don't add some more flexibility they will be left in the dust.
@@TheRenderingEssentials In the earlier versions you could add Specular, Transparency or Luminescence information in the alpha channel of a texture file. Maybe you can add Displacement information in a similar manner?
@@m4k0v1ch It's definitely something they could add. Before asking I had already tried putting a displacement map in both my normal maps alpha, and diffuses 2nd alpha. But clearly either didn't work. Getting Lumion to allow for more customization is like pulling teeth.
@@KyleMarren I have the feeling that once you add the capacity to the engine to render displacement, adding another texture button so we can use it on any texture would be a no-brainer. On the other hand, maybe they want to avoid people going crazy with this feature until they understand how it impacts rendering times.
good
Thanks

congratulation lumion. you pass pre school and off to 1st grade. hahaahahah
Figured I'd see you here somewhere ;p
@@TheRenderingEssentials PIKA-BOO hahahahahaahahahah guilty

It's not really "displacing" the geometry. If it was really doing that, you'd see displacements along the edges of objects (as you can see in Vray and other rendering software). This is more or less a real-time "fake" which simulates a displacement.
Wouldn't the end result be the same, just without the edges being displaced? I assume it's possible for the displacement mapping to be set up in such a way that everything displaces except the edges too
Yes in 3d software (C4D, 3dsMAx) and their render engines this is basically bump. Its not a real displacement. Its kind of a fake displacement. Even if your plane had consisted of 1 polygon it could do the same thing. Which would be impossible with real displacement. The end result is still that its a flat plane. The difference is it fakes it by calculating a dislacement on each angle you look at the geometry and using that info for the reflections and occlusion as well It not showing up on edges is a giveaway that its not real displacement. Think of it like those street artists that paint a " hole" in the street and from one angle it looks theres a hole.. Expect with this is does it again from every angle..
