The 1968 World Series was the first that I ever watched on TV and I remember watching this game. I was 9 years old. Bob Gibson and Denny McLain were the star pitchers of their respective leagues. The Tigers upset the Cardinals and Mickey Lolich won the 7th Game.
I was 10 years old and remember my mother letting me stay home from school to watch the games that came on during school hours. I was a die hard Cardinals fan. Everybody remembers McClain beating Gibson in Game 7 but do you remember the error Curt Flood made that sealed the deal for the Tigers? That one play totally screwed up his career. Look it up if you're not familiar with Curts life after this series.
@@cadirector Actually it was Mickey Lolich who won Game 7 for the Tigers but Denny McLain had that phenomenal 31-6 season with the Tigers and there will never be another 30-game winner with the modern 5-man starting pitching rotation. McLain repeated with an outstanding 24-9 1969 season. I don't remember Curt Flood's error that you're referring to. I was in 4th grade and was NOT allowed to stay home from school to watch the Series. I do remember Curt Flood's courageous effort to legally challenge MLB's long-hated reserve clause that he lost in court but was nevertheless single-handedly responsible for the clause's eventual demise. None of his compatriots had the courage to stand with him in his fight and he never made any excuses for them because they should have been there. "Detroit pitcher Denny McLain, who was in the bullpen beyond the outfield fence at Busch Stadium, swears that Flood could not have caught the line drive hit off the bat by [Jim] Northrup." ua-cam.com/video/kwvSYXHvy0I/v-deo.html
When they talk about the Greatest Pitchers of All Time, there's not enough people talking about Bob Gibson. While I realize that he pitched at a time when the MLB Rules were tilted in the Pitchers favor, he had the talent to Excel in Any Era.
I'm a Houston Colt45s and Astros fan, since 1962. Bob Gibson was awesome, very dominating... but so were the '68 Detroit Tigers. The late sixties Tigers should have had multiple championships. R. I. P. NORM⚾🇨🇱CASH

And of course the Cubs gave him away with how many others who turned around and burned their butts good❗ Thanks for the video and the memories!!!
Cubs never had Bob Gibson. Probably thinking of Lou brock
If only the ‘68 series had ended that way! (I still haven’t fully gotten over it!)
Harry Caray calling the game
