This was at the Bridge School Benefit. I was there! Had never heard her before. Tom Petty, Neil Young and other legends up there, and this young woman came on and blew us all away.
I saw her in 87 when I attended a March on Washington about poverty. I've been enamored ever since. She is a beautiful soul who tells the story of those who have been discounted in our society like no one else. She never received the recognition she deserved.
I'm from Kenya 🇰🇪 and I felt in love with Tracy Chapman, her voice, her smile, her style she will turn on every time I listen to her songs. She's a masterpiece.

30/12/22 When I first met the young man who would become my husband (32 years ago ) he played his favourite artist Tracey Chapman to me …. Someone played a Tracy Chapman album for us repeatedly in the car in 1988, driving fast with the windows open over 600km. I was on my way to boarding school at 12 years of age. Her songs still speak to my very life.

She has always been one of my top 5 favorites. I have a 30,28, 25, 22 and 16 yrs old and I can catch them all listening to diff favs of their own Tracy Chapman songs. She is awesome.
She opened for a great 10000 Maniacs show in this time -1988. I was floored and so was most of the audience - goosebumps, shivers and tears. Raw. Barefoot. Alone on stage. Guitar and microphone. Jeans and black t shirt. Powerful. Natalie Merchant and 10000 Maniacs were awesome, but eclipsed, at least for me.

i saw her in this era, and it was amazing. she had basically zero polish, or stage presence. It was just a girl and her guitar, and it was powerful.

Her voice is so. damn. beautiful. No auto tune, no lip syncing, just her and her guitar and she sounds absolutely magical! I also love how she never tried to conform to anyone's idea of what an 80s/90s pop star should be. She was just herself, writing and singing music for the people from the heart.

I never realized how young she was when her first album came out. It's hard to believe such a masterpiece came from someone only that age.
When I was young, I didn't exactly know how much she was talented. Now I know. I know.
I was 12 years old when I heard Tracy for the first time, same age my son is now. It's still just so beautiful.
I first listened with my young daughter....am as moved now as I was then........at 85 !

She opened for a great 10000 Maniacs show in this time -1988. I was floored and so was most of the audience - goosebumps, shivers and tears. Raw. Barefoot. Alone on stage. Guitar and microphone. Jeans and black t shirt. Powerful. Natalie Merchant and 10000 Maniacs were awesome, but eclipsed, at least for me.
I can tell by how quiet the audience is. That's powerful.
