Gas station beer, no band aids and a Boy Scout cook set. This is one of my favorite 2022 UA-cam videos so far! Lol. That made my day! Thanks
Agreed
I love to take foil pockets. Just add some sausage, potatoes, mushroom, beans and other veggies. Wrap in 2 or 3 layers of foil. 20-25 min on coals! Best campsite meal :)
My favorite backpacking meal for an overnighter
Same. Cooking in foil is so convenient and works very well.
wonderfully honest video, including burn moments etc.. most hikervideos are so smooth and perfect, your video is how we all really experience it!!
When a water filter is not used for a while and it gets totally dry inside, it will not work instantly the next time you use it again. The filter is not damaged. It just takes some time for the inside of the filter to re-hydrate in order for the water to flow thru it smoothly. I always re-hydrate it at home for like 20-30 minutes the night before or morning of your outing, and it works as it should. I can't say for certain this is why your filter was not working, but seems possible.
... Get a pump filter or purifier ...... never have this problem ..
That "Toasty" was awesome! 😆 Great video Bryce!!
Gonna sleep in the tent no matter what!! That's how I feel, even if I have to sleep in an open field so no trees fall on me!! Hahahaaa.. Yes indeed!
Man, you are my kind of backpacker……this is why I subscribe
Awesome video. Awesome experience. Thank you so much for sharing this video. God bless you.
This is the kind of guy I'd want to hike with
Your videos are way...way more entertaining than those other two midwestern UA-camrs , who I no longer subscribe to ( the big in home thing they do with the big microphone , back and forth ) keep it up , thanks for sharing !!!
The sound of beer cans being smashed in the woods is pretty unmistakable. If you’re ever at one of the Southern Ohio hotspots and hear like 10 cans being smashed at like 8 o’clock in the morning…… That’s probably me😆
A totally fun outing!
Fun time! Well you said that site could hold three tents. Invite me next time and I'll make sure to bring the beer.
I love it!!!
You did everything perfect. A quick easy tip though. Get the (Real) pre-cooked bacon bits. Then all you need to do is cook the peppers and onions and throw in package of bacon bits, bam; done!
No grease to deal with and same great taste.
8:09 is a hilarious quote of out context
You're one foot into becoming UA-cams ultimate bushcrafter!
Toasty MK reference made my day! hahahahaha
My Saywer did the same thing. Brought it home and got it to work a little. Going to soak it in vinegar and rinse with distilled water. But I bought a platypus to try.
Love your videos and all I'm learning! Beautiful Ohio!
Nice job with the fire! That Mora was a beast!
Just use a cotton bandana as a tea bag. You can make everything from a single cup to a whole pot with one bandana.
This was nice fun trip, real too 👍🏼👍🏼
Nice vid! Digging the new tent.
If it were me, I would have chopped up the bacon and started frying it in the pan and then about a third of the way I would have then added the vegetables to it to finish out.
Oh, and black beans - or a black bean paste. I essentially do the same burritos quite often at home and the black beans make a hell of a difference! They kick it up just that extra little bit. Maybe even a little lime. 😁
I always have filter problems after my filter sat all winter. Started prewetting them before a hike and that seems to help.
finally somebody funny on outdoor life
😆. I appreciate this comment
This video is great! Gotta love a brew on the trail after hiking all day. So refreshing!
a gear video, hiking video, and a processing wood video; all in one.
Great blooper reel...I mean video lol. I'm glad I'm not the only one that struggles some days. I swear I felt like a rookie on my dolly sods trip. Those straps looked amazing by the way.
Sometimes those old style camp gear pieces are the easiest and best. I still prefer using my old Esbit folding stove on all my trail adventures...
food looked great!
Spent many a night in that part of Wayne NF when I worked in Marietta. Usually came in from rt 7 side.
They have chicken in the tin foil packs found in the same section as tuna fish that go well in tacos. Also Walmart has an Imusa egg frying pan with lid for like $6-7. It's a fun diy ultralight frying pan. I replaced the knob of the lid with triangle picture hangers to look and function like the toaks lid, and drilled a snot load of holes in the plastic fry handle. Haha and for bacon I found it best not to worry about the bacon being straight. Just fill the pan full of bacon cut in like 1/3 length. It basically deepfries itself.
This is my fav video of yours! Whooo!
I just had that IPA yesterday.
Great video.
Bryce, I have to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. They're like an outdoor, adventure, comedy video. Secondly, I'll let you know that you and I are two peas in a pod because although I'm at the age and stage in life I only hike now and no longer backpack, in my day our styles, habits, and attitudes were almost identical. There were few things I enjoyed more than cutting wood, building a fire, and enjoy a nice beer...or few. The more rustic and rough the terrain and camp, the better. One tip I'll share buddy. You're making the coffee thing much too complicated. You don't need the bags and paraphernalia. Simply put the grounds in the pot, simmer them to your taste, and let the pot sit for just a bit. The grounds will all settle to the bottom and unless the slosh it around you can drink it just fine with no grounds. Give it a try.
My idea of a perfect trip ☺️
Entertaining video. I can attest to pot bacon working. It's better with a pot hook in my experience. BTW I've found that you need to backflush the Squeeze before use if it's been sitting dry for a while. I think it needs to get saturated in order to work. Try it out before you toss it. It's part of my pre-trip process now. Also the Uberlite is insulated. It just doesn't have the reflective material. Which wears out pretty quickly anyway. Just hold an xlite up to the sun and you'll see all the parts where the reflective material has worn clear.
... coming from low altitude ,, try to arrive near trail head altitude one preferably two days before hitting the trail hard ..... drink plenty of water ,, carry plenty of water ,, take ibuprofen each morning for the aches and pains ..... leave the beers for the end celebration ..... most of the Colorado Trail is at or over 10K Ft. .. some people just don't adjust ....... If nauseous or severe headache ..STOP,, rest a little while , if discomfort persists .... go back to lower altitude .. exit trail if possible ...
I'm from Cincinnati Ohio it's actually a great state for outdoor activities
Chill brothers said no acclimation
Love the batoning section! I'm taking my Ontario on the next trip now
you could turn that fanny pack into a check pack and it would look coolerer
I've had that pad a couple years now and its been great. Well great for being so light. I took it on the CT last year and yep again this year. I'm going to hang out in Breck for 2 days before I start section 7. That's a tough start this year for acclimating. I did 1-6 last year. Maybe I'll run into you again. I promise I'll remember your name the next time.
Have you ever tried Shiner Bock beer from Texas? So good
I like Voodoo Ranger 😅
I'm not a huge IPA guy but Juice Force is so damn good.
hey Bryce, try to get to Colorado a few days early and stay a altitude before the hike, it will help with the altitude sickness
Bryce, I'm glad to know you found room in your pack for bacon! I tried Vegetarian once but couldn't live without bacon! Everything tastes better with it, IMO. I see you even have a UL camp chair too. I replaced my heavy tripod stool with the Helinox Chair Zero and love it! As you get older, some things like chairs make cooking so much easier on your knees and legs.
Bacon on a stick … yum
My brand new Sawyer Squeeze also didn't work on me while I was hiking the Trans-Catalina Trail. I messaged them about it, and they told me to soak it in hot water, and then back-flush hot water through the filter. It ended up working after that, but I also am not sure if I want to trust that one. I've already had one freeze on me as well!
Next time you get a blister and puncture it, place the blade of your knife in the fire until hot a.f. and press it to the wound for three to five seconds until flesh gels over. Civil War trick! Actually don't do that.
That was a well planned cooking set up dude. 🤣
Damn, bro! Mealtime was dangerous!
Did your friend snag an enchanments overnight permit? That's definitely washington's primo hiking spot that's impossible to get overnight permits for
Fire mortal kombat reference!
I have not used a sawyer squeeze and nearly 3 years now my choice is the Katadyn be free with I found there is a silt filter that works with it that is called a bee free pre-filter but it will only work with the and the one smaller but it will not work with the 3L
Well you're definitely having a lot of fun
And that poor camera takes such a beating
It is definitely loved
Are you doing the Wonderland Trail?! If so, I'm mad jealous. I really wanted a permit this year and struck out.
The dual pack be free pre-filter non-woven 1.0 micron polyester washable and reusable safe to use with bleach and detergents extends the life and the capacity from clogging made in the USA global materials and you can boil it for sterilization and still keep using it
Looked like a successful trip with your “tiny pack” of bacon lol. Im excited for you to be out on the west coast this season. We have some amazing trails 🥾
Good times... I like Archers a lot. Have you hiked the Scenic River and the other connector trails there? Last year I hiked those just to check them out. FYI they are lacking on campsites big time. So where is this site you stayed at?
Tried canned beef? I usually carry a meat cut, it's something like 80% pork 15% beef and 5% fat, throw that into a pan full of oil and fry till pitch black, preferably cover with spices and eat as fast as possible before the fat solidifies and the meats spread apart again and the cut becomes inedible
The other week my uncle and i made little tacos with beef jerky and pico de gallo. We planned on catching a fish but that didn’t happen😂
That Mortal Kombat shout out though...😅
Very nice footage and video editing! Big like 👍 from me! I also like hiking, camping, fishing etc and upload some videos to. Keep on!!!
Sawyer sucks so does BeFree. I have been strictly using my steripen now. Got tired of squeezing and clogged or slow filters.. Steripen right in my smart water bottle, 90 seconds and good to go!
@brycenewbold I’m heading down to that area this weekend. We’re thinking of trying the Greenwood/Scenic River trail. Just wondered your opinion, didn’t know if it’s good for overnight backpacking, water, etc. Honestly we’ll probably just end up on Archers Fork again. 😂
👍 👍
Hope you have better luck with that pad, used mine twice and the valve failed while snow camping...🤬
I transformed a Fanny pack to a chest pack. Much better but it can be difficult at times to see my feet in rough patches.
Newbies should know not to break wood by smashing it or breaking it by force,i almost took my eye out bending a limb in the fork of a tree.it broke wrong n hit my open eye ball n contused it ....solid red.almost lost it.pick up the smallest thats usefull n work up to bigger stuff.the indean way was to put the end in the fire.move it in as needed.
What’s the time change have to do with daylight on the trail?
It means I get an extra hour of sunlight in the evening
70! it's still in the 40's raining and miserable here.... Ya know Jon Conti did a "QUESO FUNDIDO BEEF BURRITO" made of reconstituted burrito recipe from his mom. I have created this recipe. I am diggin yur cookin though. And I am laughing at all yur injuries, is that wrong? :)
Bryce says screw mic drops, I do "Camera drops!"
Have you ever tried Shiner Bock beer from Texas?
Handle on your pan is upsidedown, should turn up from the pan. Love your vids.
I do that to help offset the weight since it is so unbalanced when empty
@@BryceNewbold Makes sense now.
Backpacker’s Bandaid(as I call it)=TP and duct tape. Nice tip on the coffee filter thing👍
The Uberlite has an r-value of 2.0
Bryce what was your pack weight? I may have missed it.
I am trying to dial in my pack when out with my GSD who carries about 15- 20 lbs himself.
Great video. I turned me on to a new potential spot. I've been meaning to explore Wayne NF. I'm in Western PA so the drive is similar. I gotta ask. The company I work for is based in Ohio. What is the freakin' fascination with Yuengling beer in Ohio?
Where were you hiking buddy?
Never mind....I got it. Archers Fork. But where do you go at Mohican? I just got into backpacking last year and I didn't think there was any backpacking trails at mohican.
Dude just order out.
👍👍👍
You could have done your bacon and used the fat for your veg.
Today, a bit on the clumsy side...
I'm thinking you should have cut the bacon in half.
Comments down below
Wil u put all that on a bear hang
If I had to
chop the bacon up before you cook it
Good point. And it doesn’t have to be laid out flat.
Replace that horrible Sawyer bag! Pickup a CNOC, Evernew, etc.
That is definitely the fanciest Bryce Newbold cooking I’ve ever seen!
Oh......n dont cook on"fire".cook on the coals.thats how humans always cooked-baked,on the coals, start a fire, let i5 burn down to coals.
