As a New Zealander from Wellington, this was double fun to watch. And thank goodness Taika taught Ladbible how to use Marmite properly, that's been long overdue!
@adingdingdiiing6740 that's the perfect amount! It shouldn't make your toast look like death haha! Just a light coating with some butter and it's perfect!
I used to love heavy butter, followed by heavy marmite. Great breakfast. But can understand the little goes a long way, sentiment. Marmite and vegemite are strong and an acquired taste for those not born in NZ or Aus. England has their promite, which I would assume is the same.
@@Pete-z6eApparently the kiwi version is similar to ours. Not quite as good but obviously about 9000 times better than Vegemite. Tried Vegemite once and immediately felt ashamed to be alive.
Thank you for including proper captions, and not auto ones. It’s very hard for me to interpret accents with my APD, and this makes it so much easier. Love these two together.
Guys.... listen to what Taika is saying about the Marmite.... that's also how you do Vegemite. Tiny bit... it's not Nutella... DONT EAT IT OFF A F@#%ING SPOON.
I really love it when they actually have two people representing both countries for these Food Wars. It makes it seem more fair 'cause they can call it out when LADbible sets something up that's not a fair comparison or not completely accurate. Obviously, LADbible tries their best but, since they are based in England, they do sometimes get things wrong concerning other countries' foods. Loved this one and I love these two!
Michael’s face at Guinness in a can 😂 can confirm, better in Ireland. Look for the red square pubs. ‘Snacks’ are drinks, priceless. Most Irish & New Zealand thing ever .
Oh man, Michael Fassbender is one of those actors who don't often get to speak in their actual accent on camera. ☺️ Usually his characters are serious, intense, frightening and not Irish!
We’re not serious? Or can’t be frightening or intense? Because of our accent? Someone’s letting their preconceived ideas/prejudices interfere with logic.
I feel like there's a wild quality to both countries, a similar 'we're borrowing this land' vibe that both Kiwi's and the Irish understand on some level. We don't just love our countries, we are in love with and appreciate them.
I think there's always been a bit of "love" between the UK & NZ. Heaps of you lot down here & SHITLOADS 😂 of kiwis in the UK somewhere! UK for us kiwis is the leading country in our "Big OE" 😆
As an Irish Scandinavian who now lives in new Zealand I can confirm I have spread marmite correctly, bellymaloe was also a good classic even by itself. I also prefer pineapple lumps to the clove rocks, especially frozen in some ice cream on a hot summer's day.
The first piece of toast with marmite is actually how much I eat but I'm a Kiwi who grew up on the stuff. I've built up a tolerance for the tang and developed a taste for its nuances. I've also tried the South African and British versions. They are all quite distinctly different. I could pick them out in a blind taste test easily. My preference will always be for the Kiwi version. If you're new to marmite or the umami taste then start with a small amount as Taika recommends.
I've always preferred Oz Vegemite over our Marmite, it's a bit strong for me. After living in Oz for 5 years back in late 90s/early 00s we took a liking to Promite & that's all we eat in our house now & been that was since we moved home in 2001
This has to be in my top three snack wars episodes 😂 Taika and Michael are hilarious. Bless these two. You see Taika in any video and you start smiling by default 😁😊
I could guess exactly what they were going to rate what. That was a weird choice for the second alcohol for New Zealand though. It’s not Iconic in any way, I’ve never even heard of that flavour or anything. But I guess they were iconic New Zealand ingredients. I would have gone for L&P even though it’s not an alcohol.
ive never had marmite but on the front of the jar it clearly says yeast extract and i have seen videos where people try it and spread loads on which just bothers me, if you think of things like lemon or vanilla extract these are things which are way more concentrated in flavour and are supposed to be used sparingly
He did a little panel at a movie premier I was at recently and he’s just as adorable in person from 10 feet away. And also incredibly beautiful. Unfairly so lol
Come on LADbible, that Marmite spread was a criminal amount! You'd never sway someone with that - as Taika pointed out (& any NZer knows) use sparingly preferably with lots of butter....Mmmmm The Marmite.

I'm a kiwi living in Australia. Pineapple lumps are now made in Australia & don't taste as good but I agree the best way to eat them is frozen. And thank you, Taika, for showing the world the right way to eat marmite!

Marmite in NZ?
As a New Zealander from Wellington, this was double fun to watch. And thank goodness Taika taught Ladbible how to use Marmite properly, that's been long overdue!
Considering ladbible is english I wouldn't have thought they'd need teaching considering Marmite is actually english not kiwi.

Bro if u were a real “New Zealander” you would have said Kiwi instead.
Finally! Taika Waititi showing the uninitiated how to properly use Marmite!!! "A little goes a long way" and on buttered toast preferably!
