Something I found that works very well while working on some hard to remove CRUD was... Brake Cleaner Spray ( in a well vented area).... seems to cut through just about anything thats hard to remove. Just an FYI from my Hanger.... and IF you have pine pitch on your chainsaw bar...this is the stuff to use. I know,.. hard to believe but true.
A common leak I see on mid-high time engines is the dipstick tube. A lot of people over tighten the dipstick and over time the base of the tube will start leaking. Normally not a gushing leak, but it’ll definitely leave a few drops after running. You can get new a o-ring or replace the tube if threads are damaged/cracked. Good luck. Leaks can be tedious to chase down but generally aren’t hard to repair.
Good to see the cowling for the Super Duty. It seems to me you had to make that from scratch. You are a very intense guy and perfectionist - something like me and I suspect like a lot of your viewers. You do a job the way in should be done. Look forward to the covering and a new paint job too.
For the engine leak, if you don't see any sweat on the engine you might want to check your inverted oil system, when going from positive G to negative G and vise versa, there is oil that coming out from the oil return hose, if this hose connets to the bottom of the sump, there is still oil in the hose that going the back to the system's breather and then out, through the exhaust or just hose, so everytime your do acro, oil is coming out to the belly. The solution is to connect the oil return to the upper bose of the sump. Hope you understand what i meant, Im Israeli and English is not my first language. BTW, Sensenich GA prop - excellent choice
I bet that Hartzell probably weights 60+ pounds.. maybe a Catto at around 12 pounds along with some newer RV style wheel pants.. some people even do RV style landing gear, which I believe is lighter than the Pitts style.
Yes eh Catto prop could be an option. Not sure about the wheel pants though. The Pitts has a certain look to it and I like the classic wheel pants that are on it. I'm not sure I'd like the looks of the RV pants on the Pitts.
Depending on the covering system used. You maybe able to refurbish the wings and paint them without the need for an entire re cover. Best to find a knowledgeable fabric person and have them take a look.
@ we have been watching long enough to know you could NOT put that dirty engine on if your life depended on it. I’m surprised you haven’t degreased and steam cleaned it before setting it down on the shop floor. Thanks for the update on the Pitts! I love that you are saving that one. I don’t want them all but one of each will suffice!
This is gonna be Awesome seeing this come together. I love the Pitt’s.
Love the technique and insights you provide in the build process. The aerobatic footage in the future is going to be amazing.
Thank you for sharing !!…love the videos, always have.

Have a mechanic go over all the fittings and check gaskets for leaks
Why a mechanic it’s experimental
@@pitts99aa Because a mechanic knows a lot more about engines than I do!

@ maybe some older RV-3 style pants, they had the flat sides.. I know what you mean about the new wheel pants.. they are kinda tuna shaped..

Amazing job ! I wish I could be your neighbour ! We could work together !!
Could you just do a gasket and Oring set for that motor?
Yes that may be what I do. I'd still like to clean the engine up and make it look pretty too!

Find a good automobile dent-removal guy to "fix" the fuel tank. Fixing an oil leak on a Lycoming is usually easy and inexpensive.
