Beautiful Cessna 170! Amazing approach into Nelson. The 1st attempt looked quite wobbly. Good decision by the pilot to go-around. Excellent stuff Jesse!
Whew! Gusting crosswinds when trying to land make for an interesting time. Good on the pilot to choose to go around before things got out of hand on that first attempt. Excellent photography as always! Cheers!
Amazing spotting and catch as always, and thanks for sharing all your great works you’ve done, for everytime I certainly hope you had a fantastic time in the makings of all your contents, including your previous works, as always I’m sure many look forward to seeing more, and may you keep up your great works. 🙂💯✈️👍🍀
Under the circumstances it was the only sensible decision. If it doesn't look or felt right don't do it is always a good law in aviation. I'm glad the pilot erred on the side of caution. At least that way the pilot lives to fly again and doesn't wreck a perfectly good aircraft.
Outstanding catch! This is a very fascinating looking Cessna 170! Keep on pursuing your passions that you enjoy! I know you’re doing great, and continue persevering with the challenges within the best of your abilities! My best of hopes for much prosperity, and despite the gaps for me not being present, I got your back! 💯👍
Nice job by the pilot. A couple of things with the steep glide angle and any short final might help. It is probably an A model but any flap is helpful with any approach. If we get slow enough to sink, safer with flaps, this brings the dynamic throttle into play as the most accurate glide angle and rate of descent control. And the dynamic proactive rudder walk, staying ahead of all left turning tendencies because we are already moving and using correct yaw rather than adverse yaw (aileron usage) to bracket the centerline between our legs, works on short final equally as well as on the surface. Good video. Thanks.
For anyone wondering all of the planes you hear in the background is because we had a fly in breakfast. I was coordinating who got to land and who got to hold short. Or do a hold pattern
It was a really nice turnout at the fly-in breakfast this year, and you guys did a great job directing everyone. It looked like a fairly challenging day for some of the pilots!
Great video - From the camera's angle, those trees looked mighty close on short final. That said, with a high wing, the pilot could have done a wing low landing to address the crosswind.
Challenging conditions, challenging landing. Sometimes the goal isn't a greaser, it's just to get the plane on the ground in one piece. My personal limit is two go-arounds. If I don't land on the third try I'll leave the circuit and consider my options.
need to hold that tail down, and yoke forward when taxiing downwind, remember crosswind inputs when you turn crosswind while taxiing. nice bird partner.
On the second attempt, don't quit flying the plane just because it is on the ground. It's a Tail Wheeled plane; even when you are taxiing the plane don't forget about the yoke and the ailerons. Fly it all the way to the tie-down.
Not seeing much climb into the wind, dive away from the wind while taxiing. Should do it every time while taxiing a tail dragger just to stay on top of your game.
Appears to be a pretty good right crosswind but they never put a wing down into it. Appears to be using crab to stay over the runway, that will make it a non beautiful airplane when luck runs out.
At least the decision to throw it waway and go round was made before it turned into acrash but personally i'd have thrown it away ooner and landed somewhere else that had a wind cliser to the runway bearing.
Somehow he got it on the ground and didn't ground loop it in spite of his terrible crosswind technique and lack of control inputs on the ground. Money can buy a nice 170 but it can't buy skill.
You are clearly not a pilot…….push forward to pin the mains on a taildragger aircraft. 🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻The windy conditions looked quite challenging and I think the pilot did a good job in those conditions.
With 170's pushing forward at the instant of touchdown will create a wheel landing with the tail and rudder high for crosswind directional control and then lowering the tail at low speed. It's hard in a 170 because of the springy gear but it's a preferred landing in gusty winds. This pilot needs to learn to get the upwind wing down in a crosswind.

@@TheHDAviation Definitely looked it!
What I’m most impressed by is the sound of the C170 stall horn. It really gets your attention!!!😊
Well good the pilot landed safely and great timing that you caught it. Nice little Tail-Dragger 👍😎
Magnificent Video Quality. Great airplane Cessna 170.

Amazing go-around by this nice Cessna 170. Great footage as always 👌
Thanks so much my friend!
Another top class video 👨✈️👌
Thanks my friend!
Unstable approach followed by improper cross wind controls. Lucky he didn't ground loop!
Sketchy!! That got pretty squeaky pretty fast! Good call and well done for making the go around work too. What a nice aircraft. Thanks gor posting.

Very nice capture!
Thanks so much!
Helluva crosswind, nicely done.
Beautiful plane!
This one is a real beauty!
Amazing go around, very nice approach and landing😍 Thumbs up Jesse👍😊
Thanks Martin, this go-around was so fun to see!
That 170 has a great horn!
Wow, awesome catch!
Gorgeous bird!
This one is a beauty!
Wow, looked like some challenging weather conditions to land a Cessna 170 in. Awesome footage, mate! Very nicely done!
Woah, that’s some crazy footage! He almost clipped the tail there! Thanks a lot for sharing!! 👍👍👍🤩

Thanks so much!
That looked like a rough one for sure! Nice vid of this beautiful little tail dragger!
Thanks Seb, this one was fun to see!
Wow, what a wild approach, the pilot has to practice that again 😅
Super report, Jesse 👏👍👍
Thanks Volker, this low go-around was pretty crazy to see!
I never have seen a Cessna 170 with that type of wing before. Nice shot!
It is a straight 170, fabric wings.
The original C-170 is a fabric wing, the A & B models have Aluminum wings
170A
I was actually thinking it was a C140, but I can see it has flaps, and that I can hear a 6 in it...
Great catch!
Thanks!
Amazing 😮 great footage
Thanks so much!
Great decision on very cross wind approach to go around
Like 389 great video amazing sharing my friends 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️

It's a straight 170, not an A or B. Constant chord wings originally fabric and two struts.
Great landing in a gusty day.
Is it just me, or did he put backwards aileron in for the X wind? Shit that looked unstable. 🍻
Pilot made a good decision to do a go around on the first approach. Nice 170 also.
Gusty x wind, maybe try wheel landing?
Fantastic capture my friend😀 Greetings from Japan 👏
Thanks so much!
Good catch 👏
Thanks a lot!
Well done! 💯
would love to see more floatplane action next time you have the chance :)
Finally got a floatplane video uploaded recently, sorry about the delay!
You can always go around ;-). Good decision and well done.
Nice slip and very well executed on the landing
Gusty crosswind, he had to earn it on that one. I see all the grass and it makes me wonder why not put it down in the green.
Good 🛩️ Nice place 🌲🌲🌲
Thanks for watching!
Nice catch! It seems Nelson is the place to see questionable approaches on short final.
Haha definitely, I got to see a few good ones this day. Made for some fun spotting!
First was a little scary 😨
Nice capturing 😍
Yes, a little too low for that go-around!
Hey, I heard a Skymaster fly by at the end. Did it land there?
You can always, go around 🎶🎶🎶
Good job Amazing. I hope i can do this someday
Another classic is going to bite the dust soon. Learn to wheel land that airplane!! Especially on pavement...especially on a gusty or crosswind day.
Nobody likes armchair pilots

@@TheHDAviation oh yea I was told by some of them that the wind was tricky but they enjoyed it
1st mistake....NO FLAPS! Always plan on a 3pt as well...low energy, etc..... deed some dual!
Yeah, I wonder why he did that. Twice. I know 170 and 170A have crappy flaps, but still… Are they so crappy you don’t use them when it’s gusty?
No flaps on a gusty day is OK. A wheel landing is preferable to 3 point in these conditions put requires practice to master.
@@leeoldershaw956 Looks calm to me....anyway...
@@PostcardsfromAlaska either way....most are taught in gusty condition not to use flaps at all....read the POH....alot of info in that.....
@@Nick-cd4kd reduced flaps, maybe, plus gust factor. I always land with at least 1/2 flaps. Off-airport flying is my vocation. YMMV.
Great video -

Good catch. Looks like a little bit of crosswind causing some problems. Smart pilot, go around instead of fighting that first attempt.
a great selection of delayed reactions and over corrections.
Should have turned right to complete his 180* on the runway not left. Much less likely to nose over during the turn if you turn into the X wind.

80% of the turbulence on approach was pilot created.

No flap landing ??
WTH ??!!
High wing aircraft have less rudder authority with flaps extended so in a heavy crosswind it can be easier/safer to land without flaps

Somehow he got it on the ground and didn't ground loop it in spite of his terrible crosswind technique and lack of control inputs on the ground. Money can buy a nice 170 but it can't buy skill.

Terrible landing. Never try to three-point in gusty conditions, and not a single attempt with the elevator to push forward and pin the mains.👎🏻
Let’s see you do better…..🤣🤣.
