paradise lost is a great band that's very underrated,most of thier albums sound great! even those that have a different style. Draconian times is one of the best.
Jerry Miller I agree! I feel bad that the only albums I enjoy start from Draconian Times. I just can't get into the earlier stuff...it sounds so much like most music of that era to me. But from DT onwards PL have been one of the most consistent bands ever! My three favourite albums are Host, Faith Divides Us and the self titled. Faith Divides Us may even be my all time favourite metal album.

After years of listening to PL i can say that Tragic Idol is definitely their best album ever. Perfect combination of fucking great heaviness & melody like in Crucify, In this We Dwell or Theories From (this one cushes literally everything) with very nice gothic soft melodies (but still heavy) like title track, solitary one or Fear of Impending. Was quite a hard choice with Draconian Times, but Tragic Idol is just the best. Draconian Times may be magic, beautiful and atmospheric, but as a whole it's still an album of young guys, Holmes voice is great but still quite "punky" and it's still just a "start-genre" album that needs development. And Tragic Idol is just mature, pure, heavy, great. It's a little monochromatic, but who cares \m/

I see the story as someone who has everything one can desire in life, but is not happy, realizing how absurd and poitless life is for him, and chooses the path of self destruction. He leaves everything behind, including the ones who love him, and walks among the ruins of what he turned his life into, intending to end his own life. I see the child that he chases away as himself as a kid, like a metaphor of his innocence or conscience or maybe his survival instinct which, sensing death approaching, makes a final attempt to stop him, but is not strong enough to do it.
I was 15 when first listened to PL, back then I bought the Shades Of God LP and continued until today, now I´m 35 and still get excited listening a new song. Classic Doom & and emotional Metal for our lives as only they know how to do. Long Live Paradise Lost.

Glad to see Paradise Lost is finally back again, this Tragic Idol cd looks very promising and i feel like going back to 1993, it´s fucking awesome to see they making some badass solid tunes again, Honesty In Death, a new hymn.
I love paradise lost, I'm glad to see that they are keeping a nice consistent sound. Too many groups are coming out with new material that sounds unlike old releases, it's a shame.
Paradise lost has covered all ground in Doom Metal!!!so influential.....I even had to just start another band that's main influence is in the vein of this band meets C.O.C....If that makes sense...That band is called Paradox Black (even the name sounds almost similar,hopefully no one sees this, lol) I plan to release the 1st album soon and its dedicated to this band more than anyone else. I am the Guitarist and Vocalist of Kaos Reign (thrash extreme metal influenced main band), Skumbagh, Murder Castle and others. I play all genres of Metal. I recommend every album by Paradise Lost, even Host. My favorite is Draconian Times though for sure. This is pure artistic Misery at it's finest and I do not care if anyone disagrees!!! (sorry for the promotion I couldn't help it) This will never get old to me.

Love the video, so brutally honest, not everyone has a happy ending , but still their is moral to be learned with this disturbing outcome. I feel bad for his kid, I thought the kid was his child but realized he's child was a girl
the irony was in the fact that someone who is named after an Obituary album ( who basically haven't changed much if at all over the years) was telling that PL should do something different, when their career covers from goth/doom to harsh old school death metal ( search for the song "Our Saviour" here for an example, and then type in "so much is lost" for the differences) to electronica. where Obituary sound made pretty much the same thing for 20 years.
Love that they are returning to what turned me on to them in the first place!! Has that Draconian Times sound which is my favorite of all their albums! Good Shit!

First you must understand after 20 odd years of making albums you get bored with the same song & dance so u explore new avenues to refresh the old. PL has come full circle cheers to all my metal heads! \m/
This album has smacks of not quite being what the last one was (a masterpiece, best since Icon) but still incredible and blowing away most of what the tragic gothic/doom scene has to offer right now. PL are "otherwordly" when they go for it...
