A tiny bit of misinformation but glad you got your BA4 running. Quartz doesn't expand which is why they used it.The quartz rod rides on a bimetal element inside the flame switch. That controls the startup, glow/spark plug and shutdown process. I've been servicing Eberspachers since 1970 and have to say, they are quite wonderful. Just wish new glow/spark plugs were available for less than an arm and a leg. Back in the day they were $10.

+Mr Rhee thank you for that clarification. My experience is defiantly more shade tree mechanic in nature. A hobbyist approach. I have had good luck finding plugs overseas in Sweden, Czech Rep and even Germany. Between 10 to 35$ I would love to keep you as a source to ask questions to? Im mainly playing with the BN4 and BA6 heaters at the moment.

Hi, I have a BN4 that gets no power to the older style fuel pump (non-metering). Any suggestions what to check?

Jason, have you ever come across the Webasto heaters put in Bugs in the 60's. In Canada some Bugs had an auxiliary heater that ws positioned on to of the transmission. When you pulled the lever, you could hear it activate from the behind the back seat. A little green light would come on to the left of the ashtray. My Bug was a 1968 "Deluxe". Some had them and some didn't. I think it was a factory install. I have paper work but it's all in German. I do remember these big heaters but the Webasto one was quite small and out of sight as mentioned. Curious to know if you have ever come across these.

Yes I have seen them. I believe they piggyback off the bugs stock system. I have never owned or worked on one unfortunately.

Could you make a "start to finish" video, showing how to strip, service, set up, rebuild the BN4 heater please?
I have one in my VW181, that is very tempremental, but i was told "not to mess with it, because it is a rolling bomb"

My vid skills have advanced some what over the years. There are several other videos I made that have the most common problems you will encounter. Did you see them Lee? Don't worry, its not a rolling bomb. Thats what the ignorant say all the time. If they want to be more true to life then they need to tell you that you are crazy to have a furnace next to your gas tank ; )

Hi Jason. Thank you for getting back to me.
Yes I have found many videos of yours and found them most informative.
But I do have an amount to of trepidation about refurbishing my BN4, especially after I was told it was a "rolling bomb".
The issue with my BN4 is, it fires up, gets warm, then cuts the heat after a few minutes?
That is why I hoped you had a full resto vid.

@@leedarwen6884 I do like the idea of a more complete running restoration vid. I made these as I discovered how to do it. Coming home from work daily and family makes for a spotty restoration vid. Like I said, rolling bomb is silly. They still use these heaters under the same basic principles in commercial vehicles and yachts. Ever hear of a yacht blowing up from an Eberspacher? As far as your issue - you could have poor air flow to the combustion chamber (mud dauber nest?) , the thermal switch may need adjustment? The spark plug may be bad. and would be what to check first. Have you read any workshop manuals for maintenance?

@@notchboy, yes i have found you other video's, and have subscribed to your channel.
I am currently working through your video's, which are most informative and helping to allay any fear due to my ignorance/ unfamiliarity.
Keep up the good work, it is very much appreciated, thank you :-)

hello I am looking at getting a eberspacher heater for my 32ft cabin cruiser that I call home,, I thought about a gas heaterbeings my boat is twin v8 gas motors but was wondering if a gas heater will put out enough heat for a boat this size and how much gas it will burn compared to a diesel heater,, I have heard you can run the diesel heaters on bio diesel or wvo,, do you know if this is true and will they run without problems on wvo or bio diesel,, I would like to have a gas heater if they burn the same amount of fuel as diesel heaters,, but do you know where I can buy a gas heater that will be enough heat for my boat,,thank you for your video and for your time,, happy new years,,

+infrareddreamz Eberspacher or Espar - same company primarily sells heaters for boat applications. Find your nearest Eberspacher or Espar dealer near you for correct application to fit your needs - gas or diesel.

This is the same concept for steam cars.
