- Learn about how Ukraine is utilizing a relatively unsophisticated but effective weapon from the 1970s, the Flakpanzer Gepard, to fight against Russia's aggression. Despite being close to 50 years old, the Gepard, a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, has been filling an important role in Ukraine's air-defense network by taking out low-flying drones and missiles that are too cheap and numerous to justify using sophisticated surface-to-air missiles. However, the Gepards are facing challenges due to limited access to ammunition, as the country that manufactures their ammunition, Switzerland, has refused to sell more to Ukraine due to its neutrality commitments. Find out how Ukraine is overcoming these challenges and utilizing the Gepards to defend against Russian threats.

It's better to avoid contracts with Switzerland: If you are in need of delivery because you are under attack, they will not deliver or give the allowance to deliver.
That and the fact of being neutral
Blame Switzerland on the lack of ammo
They are neutral so everyone has to respect their choice
The Philippines should buy more of these for the Philippine military
The 35mm ammunition has so far been produced by the Rheinmetall subsidiary in Switzerland. Germany still has a few thousand rounds, but was not allowed to pass them on because of the Swiss veto. From around July 2023, Rheinmetall will produce the 35mm ammunition in Germany. This ammunition can then be delivered to Ukraine.

Though there seems to be a common theme in Ukraine that we are seeing the dusting off of a lot of cold war era weapons while a lot of the modern fancy ones are being left behind.
Ukraine has proven that industrial warfare has not gone away and that quantity matters. How sophisticated a drone is doesn't really matter, what matters is how cheap and fast you can replace them. Same with tanks, against modern weapons the relevance of quality of tanks has decreased but their battlefield value is still very high. So just like with other things I think it's likely to see a new model of light tank being introduced in western militaries, being build on mass production and ease of use.
Watching this makes me want to play battlefield.
Some weapons never get old, like the AK.
The neutrality of swiss is a shame. I am not neutral when seeing a crime and let it happen. I am a damn coward.
It seems, Swiss shares your opinion. Therefore they have given up their neutrality (!) and allowed the export of swiss made ammo to Ukraine.
Yeah. I'd love to hear about swiss neutrality if, let's say for instance, north Korea would have bad interest in them
Love from India 🇮🇳❤️
thank you
The nightmare!!! Whoooooo
Fighting Ukraine
"Unsophisticated" Meanwhile using a high-tech Bullets 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Relatively unsophisticated 😂 Sure that is why Germany decided to mothball them not because they are so complex and expensive to maintain.
Well it was kind of both but they were also thought to be obsolete against stealth planes. How these weapons worked was that they were used in conjunction with missile systems. The missile systems would cover high altitude and the Gepards would cover low altitude.
There was a real sense that missiles had become so sophisticated that the guns were no longer needed.
I think the west needs a new tank that has some very severe cost and production restrictions put on it. Usually cheaper weapon systems actually tend to be more reliable since they are simpler.
In the west there is always a push for fewer but more sophisticated weapons systems. They are better for propaganda reasons and they also are more profitable for the weapon manufacturers.
This isn't the first time the west has foolishly scrapped most of it's mass produced weapons in favour of fancy gadgets BTW.
It is a Marksman turret on a Leopard 1 .
This "unsophisticated" 60s AA tank who is limited to accurate and reliably automatic tracking of an agile but mechanical turret mvement air and point defense being both expensive and complicated, that some nations who wanted him, were turned down by this maintenance effort of an "unsophisticated" 60s AA tank.
And Gepard means Cheetah in English not german. If you can't figure out that, maybe military technology cannot be understood by quoting wikipedia.
Bro russia uses drones to take out a machine made for taking down... Drones
so are Buldings made to take out drones?
The fuck is Switzerland's problem, too much kremlln money being stored there? How do you make ammunition but not sell it?
Да да , "тигры и пантеры были кошмаром для советских танкистов" да это правда , но потом красный флаг был установлен над рейхстагом. Так что слишком сильно не расслабляйтесь

Still Zsu-23x4 its better.
What good is Swiss or Austria if they cherry pick when to cooperate with the EU or NATO and when not to? They want us to support their defense industry and want us to do cooperative trade and train with our soldiers but both refuse to join NATO and Switzerland won’t even join the EU!! Even if they don’t want to join they decide not to sell any country defense materials when being invaded and block any past customers from doing so themselves. Like why is Rheinmetall in Switzerland is who produces that ammo so a Germany company uses its Swiss branch and Swiss blocks what it can do with it. Why do we keep investing in these countries, if u take over a company instead of rebranding and running it from there just gut it’s properties, close the plant, and move production to some place that won’t interfere with your decisions!! Punishing a company for investing in your country is the equivalent of what their doing!!
hey you dont go to ukraine yet ? they are actually psuhing russian out right ?
I am German and for 13 yrs hearing about close air defence and Gepard give me depression
Warum?
This video confirms they are quite effective
Metric!
You mean a nightmare that's all that's left because their better AA has been pretty much destroyed.
But okay.
Is it true what he's saying?
😂😂😂😂😂😂 and Ukraine dont have ammo for them and need to train crew for that thing. Ukraine dont have enough time to train it. So stop spreading this funny propaganda joke😂😂
