Also, mixing glow primer (or even liquid highlighter) with a matte foundation is the only way to get a glowy finish base that will not slide off of an oily face after an hour! :D

berlineczka if I use I cream highlighter it does really good and last all day even Mac highlighters and Natasha are really good and long lasting on oily skin

I got this tip from a Wayne Goss video. This is more if you have oily/combination skin and want to beef up the coverage of your foundation, if you apply a layer of whatever setting/face powder you use before your foundation and after your primer, it'll make your foundation last much longer and it'll look more full coverage without being any heavier. I do this step everyday now 😊

i love that you emphasized it was a personal take & based on your skin & needs. because for me, it’s a vital step. i have normal - dry skin, and live in an extreme four seasons climate so my skin changes a bit every couple months.
i like hydrating primers, and smoothing primers. hydrating primers because yes, even though i do my whole skincare routine anytime i wear makeup, i prefer lighter weight moisturizers and adding thin layers of moisture (toners, serums, ampules, and moisturizers generally catered to oily skin) because heavy moisturizers and creams clog my pores & make me get little texture bumps all over my skin. and even if it’s dry it’s almost like there is a barrier & heavier formulas take ages to soak in which is a feeling i don’t like on my face.
because of my ease at getting, and constant present, texture problems, i love smoothing primers, and getting a nice even base.
some people don’t need them, but like with anything in makeup it’s all about preferences and everyone has individual needs. it bugs me when people are saying ‘no one needs this’ etc. because we are all. different. thank. you.

I really need to start primer “cocktailing” as you call it because I now have dry skin but I used to have super oily skin and still have very large pores. Thank goodness for acutane!

I honestly love it to mix and match my primers since I have combo skin.
It just makes so much fun and you can use all primers you have on
    different areas on your face.
    Beautiful video idea, Kelly

Such a great video! I remember hearing a great tip from Wayne Goss a few years ago about making sure your primer and foundation have complimentary ingredients. For example, if you put down an oil based primer, that will repel a water based foundation, and vice versa, causing the foundation to breakdown quicker. Another great tip is using primer as a mix in with foundation to adjust the finish and coverage.

Thank you! I had no idea about how an illuminating primer might work. My foundation is medium coverage so maybe I'll try one. Usually my skin is OK with my face and eye moisturisers, but I do use a mattifying one for my oily zones exactly as you mentioned.

i know i am a little weird and i might be the only one doing it. but sometimes ill just wear like a illuminating primer or matte primer in the rainy season without any coverage product. but being like an oily girl i think id steer clear of mettefying primers for everyday they just tend to emphasize the oils more

I have combo/oily skin and the only "primer" I own is the Nivea Men sensitive post shave balm which is glycerin rich and not greasy at all, it's a good light weight moisturizer on its own too. I usually skip it though unless I have a dry spot bc my foundation is pretty moisturizing and also contains SPF.

For whatever reason, my foundation doesn't go on as smooth if I don't wear a primer. Also, I'm super oily, so I need all the help I can get to combat the oils to keep makeup on my face. However, my sister doesn't wear primer unless she's super dry in the winter. Different strokes for different folks.

I used primers for my pores and for matify and didn't work for me. The only that work is milk hydro grip primer; make my fundation look nice all day. I change my skin care rutine and my pores look smaller, and a lot less oily.

This video was incredibly helpful! I do have a 5-10 minute period when I can let my moisturizer sink in, but with the primer setting...most of the time I have a cat in my lap so I can't do much to let my primer sink in. My cat is a cuddle butt. Does anyone else have this problem? Just me? Okay. 😂
