    I bought 2 of their lola t70s because I like them and other brands don't make them . The performance was so poor I took out all the mechanical bits including the guide, threw them in the bin, and replaced everything with NSR gear. After floating the body as well they now just as fast as my other nsr cars. Bit expensive of course but great fun now.

      I totally agree, sadly this is the path we have to go down with Fly. I am very reluctant to buy Fly cars as I know they will either be expensive to get running right or shelf queens!

    This is precisely the project I want to do with my Fly Porsche 917 and 908. Spot on Rob.

    These are brilliant tips in this video. I know Fly cars can be very noisy (a few of mine sound like coffee grinders lol) but it really never occurred to me to change the pinion gear out like that. I also really didn't know much about the spherical bearings, so thank you for these wonderful tips! A lot of people knock the Fly cars for how they run (and rightfully so!), but you are showing that they can be improved without much bother or expense. Cheers!

    Flys can be a bit hit and miss on performance but generally okay. You can buy 3 of the same cars and have one that is perfect and 2 that are not great. I think part of the hobby is about having the ability to refine cars and get them running well and that then sets you up if you do go into club racing.
    Nice job, dremmel is a must have tool in my opinion. I need to get myself a jewlers eye piece.

    Rob can you explain the reasoning for putting the paste on the pinion but rubbing it off please? Don’t quite get why you put it in and rub it off.
    Cheers
    Tony

      I wasn't really rubbing it off, I was A, removing the big lumps, and B, redistributing it more evenly. The mesh was close enough to get jammed up with so much paste in one place. Also my paste is quite old and has gone a little lumpy, so will not squeeze out as easily if put on in lumps. I did run the paste for a little longer than the video shows. Hope that helps.

    I purchased the Fly 917K Scuderia Rodriguez # 32 in the box set. My friend bought one as well he said it is not a good runner, so it is a shelf queen.

      With some basic off the peg Slot.it parts, it could be a good runner 🙂

      What, £4 for a pinion and bearings, you spent more than that for one of your Piña coladas by the pool last week 🤣 The work is very easy if you buy the parts. If you want it done, bring the bits over and I'll bung them in for you 🙂

    Rob, what method do you use for re attaching the wheels and ensuring they stay on.

    • @SwiftSlots
      @SwiftSlots  Рік тому +1

      Well there's the thing!
      Like you allude to, the wheels are a bit slack, However, they do seem to run fairly true, so they may well stay. If they do stay, I'll just bond them to the axle with super glue like I normally do with plastic wheels. You'll need to get the glue into the wheel first on a tooth pick, only use a very small amount and get them into position QUICK!! Also make sure there is plenty of oil in the bearings as super glue and bearings are not best mixed! The axle is also best scratched a little with something like 8o grit paper, but only very gently, you want to scratch the axle, not remove material.
      However, this car may well end up with a custom set of turned alloy wheels if I feel she needs them. I'll then use the OG wheels as inserts. My biggest worry is how little axle is left to go inside the wheel.

      @andrewjackson-aj Рік тому +1

      @@SwiftSlots Thanks Rob. I always seem to have trouble getting the wheels to stick. I have a few Fly 917 / 908 / and Lolas that will benefit from your video series.

    sorry Rob, could you send me the engine of your Porsche 917 k fly car model?

    • @SwiftSlots
      @SwiftSlots  Рік тому

      Hi, I'm not sure I understand your question? I can't "send you" the motor, but I can tell you it is the standard Fly motor the car came with. It has plenty of power for smaller tracks.
